03.31.05, Thursday:

[07:35pm] Happy Birthday Crystal! ^_^

Dear Ms. Lau:

As an assignment in Miss Porter's Pathways to Success Course here at Ramona, I have to compose a letter to a middle school teacher and I choose you.

The reason I choose you is because you were my favorite teacher in the eighth grade. Science was my favorite class because of you. The way you taught was just so fun and unique, that it made me want to learn science. In the seventh grade, I hated science. You had to drag me kicking and screaming into my seventh grade science class, but you changed that. That shows how great a teacher you are. You were also so fun to talk to during those sports games during 0 period. Who knew that a teacher would like watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer? You were just the coolest teacher ever, and let me tell you, my biology teacher doesn't hold a candle to you. I miss all my teachers at Sierra, but I miss you the most.

Hopefully, I will find as good a teacher here at Ramona as you were.

Sincerely,

Clarissa M.

After a nice day of Middle Earth Jeopardy (last time, it was East Meets West Jeopardy, with teams of Kung Fu Masters, Ninjas, Samurais, Cowboys, Indians, and Rancheros...this time, it's the Elves, Hobbits, Orcs, Ents, Wizards, and Warriors. =) Ain't class fun? ^_^) and our Six Flags meeting (My goodness! 80 eighth graders in my little classroom! But it's cool - they listened to me, after a little bit of lecturing and threats to take three boys that wouldn't stop talking off the list to Six Flags in my "mean teacher voice" anyways, muah ha...), I found that note in my box at school. How awesome is that??? ^_^

And it's an easy day for me tonight - I did all my grading and pre-printed the tests for tomorrow, and even went to the gym! I'm pretty much free for the rest of the night. They just take a test tomorrow, while I monitor the class...easy, easy...I think I might have time to actually wash my hair tonight...and watch Tru Callings (even if it'd be better if it was Wonderfalls, but whatever...Fox...=Þ)! Woo hoo! ^_^

Heidi unexpectedly popped into my classroom yesterday - neato! ^_^ I had visits before school today from now-9th graders Aaron T. and Miles R., as well as an after school visit from Matt S., who made me the stained glass angel last year as a 7th grader. Elizabeth M., a talkative and chatty soul that used to be at our school a few months ago, came back to visit on Tuesday during SLC's. I love getting visitors! ^_^

03.30.05, Wednesday:

[06:15am] Mmm...M&M's have turned to the dark side! *drool* ^_^

03.27.05, Sunday:

[04:05pm] WOW...the first Sunday in a while where I'm just...chillin...neato...! And Happy Easter to all of you! ^_^ What a wonderful day...sitting in sermon today (which was fantastic, by the way, hee hee...), and while praying, I realized that God has answered a LOT of my prayers almost immediately, especially when I pray for others. Like...three...four...five...a billion times...when I've prayed for salvation or something, it happens! And it doesn't always happen right away, but it's crazy because you'll see things that happen in a different light...and anyways...yeah...=) [*cuz know that prayer makes a difference...for the person praying, more than what one is praying for...! ^_^]

I met Pei-Wen (spelling?) today at church, and I like her! Hee hee. It's funny - there's a small growing group of girls that are near my age (well, mostly older a bit. Maybe that's why I always feel so young! That, or I'm really immature and too goofy for my age. I think the immature and goofy part must be a big portion of it...muah ha...), and it's neat...Annie, Rita, Michelle...though I don't seem to ever have the time to talk to them (or anyone else, for that matter), maybe now, I can...and they seem nice. =)

We missed Early Morning Worship today. My parents weren't going to go, so I was thinking of going with my brother...but then...he got up all late...and anyways, so we all ended up going at regular worship time, smelling the leftover bacon from the breakfast on my empty stomach...but the wait for lunch was well worth it, because Mrs. Wang got baptized today! Congrats to her! ^_^ There was so much music today, hee hee, and it was all lovely - from the English Adult to the Youth (I think College/Career Praise is pretty much gone though...too bad...it was fun...=Þ...started by Edwin, my bro and I, many years ago...sigh...) to the Children's Choir and the Congregation. And without me knowing it, the church presented me a gift for the youth work in the past many, many years...they gave me this compact English and Chinese Bible that zips close - SO AWESOME! I love, love, love it! ^_^ I need to keep on practicing my Chinese writing...

I came home, and found out that Craig got to go to Puerto Nuevo AND had lobster! Ooo I'm so jealous!

Wanna see some recent arts/crafts work? I made these bead characters...my bro said asked if they were the new Final Fantasy characters...especially in regards to the one that has one of Birdie's feather on its head. And three of my best paintings are titled as so: "Mi General", "Crab", and "Tusky", which I put together into a ghetto construction paper frame, hee hee...perhaps one day, they will also be as famous as Van Gogh..."GummyBlot Paintings", ha ha...since my other paintings weren't quite as cool as these three ink-blot type paintings I did. ^_^

It's great to be done with all my work for the weekend. Besides the usual, I have a few Six Flag meetings with the students this week, to prepare for our trip and fundraiser. Busy week ahead, but isn't it always? So after today...let the adventures again...!

03.25.05, Friday:

[10:50pm] Went to watch Ring Two with Angela after work. Quite scary, especially when you're in the theater with surround sound, and your friend next to you is shrieking and covering her eyes all the time - it's infectious! =) However, it was fun nonetheless - no lasting scariness though, for some reason. The first Ring movie, I didn't find too scary, but perhaps because I was watching it at home.

There were all kinds of interesting trailers there too! Some very must-see ones, like War of the Worlds and Sin City, as well as ones that I wouldn't mind checking out, like Red Eye and even Monster-In-Law, since it stars that "hot" Alias guy, ha ha! *wink* While searching for the trailers, I came across the BEST one though...I will definitely plan to see Wallace and Gromit!!! ^_^

Came home just in time to find Shelton dropping by Corona too! Yay! So I got to hang out with him a wee bit on this lovely 25th of March, hee hee. =)

03.19.05, Saturday:

[12:30pm] Curious to see if copying off xanga works on here, hee hee...drats...I deleted a post by Shelton by accident...sorry...=(...but at least it's forever engrained here on gummychild.com? ^_^ Besides that, I'm even done with lesson planning for next week! Yay! I have a few more things to take care of (Sunday School lesson tomorrow - actually, I think Rally planning would work, because there's a few more things we need to work on...heh heh...and of course, taxes...erasing N.W.A. off my car when my mom brings it home...things like that). My bro's already on Spring Break...hmm...two more weeks for me...! ^_^

So today was a bubble-in-day. No students - we just bubble in grades, eat a regular lunch (meaning more than a few minutes of scarfing things down our throats in the 30 minute lunch period we have, which is often spent preparing/helping students/etc...) like the rest of the world, and redecorate/fix-up our classrooms. A good day. =)

I had lunch with Junko at the new Daphne's in the Riverside Plaza, and got me a calamari pita and spanikopita. Mmm. The pita was yummy! Spanikopita, though good, was too greasy. I don't fear grease...but it was too much. =(

Anyways, after, we stopped by the Emporium of All Cheap Teacher Goods (The 99 cents store) to pick up some things for the classroom, and when I come out, there's some vandalism on the back of my car. =( It's got black permanent marker marks on it, and "NWA" on the back of my tire cover (the hard one my parents gave me for my bday!). What NWA stands for, I have no idea - North West Asians (since I'm of southern China origin)? North West Airlines? Hee hee. Actually, wait, I think it's some music group.

How ghetto is THAT? Only in Riverside, eh? To be tagged with some initials off some gangsta' CD outside the 99 cents store?

Hmm hehe so ghetto. . . didn't Heidi say Riverside wasn't ghetto a long while ago. Hmm NWA? NWA haven't even been popular since the early 90's heheh, you have some dated gangstas running around Riverside. . . or maybe some fervent Northwest Airline supporters. Good thing it's just "NWA" and not something vulgar. You should be careful =) I should buy you a weapon or something =P

Yep yep! Junko just called me - she said the same thing! Perhaps some 30 year old man-gangsta' was walking around, tagging cars, ha ha...freak...She did give me one good advice: Don't drive through Compton or somethin' this weekend with it still on, lest I come back (or don't) shot. =)

NWA stands for "N*ggas With Attitudes".  That was the name of the rap group that Dr. Dre was in wayyy back when.  Sorry that happened to you out there.  You should move closer to the night-life - Sunset Blvd!

Oh, it was much too tempting! At the dance after school yesterday, one of my students was rolled up into a ball, on the floor, and his friends was pulling him around into a fake backspin, several times. How could I not help but go over there and show them how it's really done??? Hee hee. More kids gathered around to watch their little Chinese Science teacher spin around a bit. Fun, fun! ^_^

03.15.05, Tuesday:

[08:30pm] Coming home from work, I almost decided to go to the gym again. But then for some reason, decided not to...came home just in time to find out my parents were coming back late and stopping by Albertson's for Chicken and Salad. I'm envisioning the Roast Chicken and Pre-Mixed Salad packs, but as it turns out, it was Fried Chicken and Cole Slaw, with those Mojo Potatoes on the side, hee hee...and my mom got it for a little over $4! Either they didn't charge her for the chicken, there was some special deal, or she made off with more free things from Albertson's. It happens every now and then, but only for her, hee hee...she must have magical hypnotic powers over the cashiers there. =)

Anyways, but yeah, I had just barely enough time to fry up some crispy over-hard eggs (over easy is where the outside is crispy and the inside is runny, right? I'm always confused on these names...though oh yeah...I remember this website...I posted it on xanga before...should try some of these recipes too!). Mmm. One of my favorite ways to eat an egg. =) Eggggscellent. Muah ha ha...corny, I know, but I couldn't help it. =)

Finally - a night to do some chillin' like a villian. ^_^

03.13.05, Sunday:

[10:45pm] The weekdays aren't too eventful - just work, which is as busy as it can be, right? Plus, with the trimester ending next week, the deadline for all late work was last Friday, so I had kids in my classroom late on Thursday, and a bit on Friday, before I sent them all out so I could go play with Rosalyn. =) Hee hee. Ros and I went to Claim Jumpers, to get the Happy Hour deals! $3 chicken wings, New York pretzels, and BBQ chicken pizza...yummm...They made a mistake on our order though - Ros can't have spicy, so we asked for mild wings. Instead, we got a full order of wings (like, twice the amount of wings, with salad and veggies on the side), and they were spicy. But hey, they gave it to us for $3. =) Needless to say, our stomachs were packed full, so we meandered around Circuit City, Toys R' Us, and Beverages and More, before heading to workout at 24 Hour Fitness. =)

Despite my lusting over it at Circuit City, I'm resisting temptation, and don't think I'll get it. My current desktop is still great, and the shuttle still rocks big time. =) I can save the money for all the fun traveling that's planned for this summer already. I'm so excited!!! ^_^

Sigh. I have yet to see this one of these days though! ^_^

**"Edit: (Actually, this part wasn't uploaded: I typed it in after, but then went to sleep...hee hee...^_^...I think because of the pictures that I was uploading for it"** On Saturday, Shelton took me out to eat wonderful, fantabulous, flavorful Pho (and the best egg rolls) at the favorite Pho 79! ^_^ The funny part was that we were sitting next to some secret door of some sort - there was a lock area for a key, but the sides of the doors were sealed and part of the wall. =) I was so excited to eat Pho that I forgot to take a picture of it all until after I finished. =P After, we meandered around, with me practicing Vietnamese (Cam On as Thank You? Banh in Dau Xanh as the rice flour cake, hee hee...and...other things...^_^), visiting the bakery, and Target ^_^ before heading back through traffic to the City of C, where we visited a pet store that had all these puppies! Soooo cute...=)

Sunday School was awesome today - Bei talked about Worldviews for Biology, which I found fascinating, hee hee... That was followed by Worship Service, Governing Board...which lasted longer than usual - it lasted till 3pm...and then I had to drive LAJ home to Diamond Bar/Rowland Heights before heading back out to Loma Linda for some Ping Pong and Fellowship at Kevin Y's. Let's just say...it's a lot of driving...

**"Edit also"** I learned a few useful Korean words from Anna, hee hee..."Na Mo Gu" is "I'm Hungry"! And "Hajima!" is "Stop It!"...and a few other food words, but I forgot already...hee hee...=)

Yes, yes...I'm going to learn to say NO more...sigh...y'all have to watch my back...I say YES too much, and you better MAKE me say NO! ^_^ No more nervous breakdowns...=P

Despite the fun that's planned for the Lobster Capital of the World, I think I'll have to say NO to Puerto Nuevo. It'd be so much fun to go down to Mexico in a school bus with my fellow colleagues this Friday, hee hee...but I should work on my taxes...and that endless lesson planning that's bound to come up...and simply to relax a little, I hope. =)

03.7.05, Monday:

[08:15pm] A little group of us went to the Sports Rally on Saturday...and it was so much fun! Jonathan and his friends came over for a bit, so we played some mean badminton with them on the streets of...well...Bishop Way and Pringle. ^_^ My dad and Libo also were showing off some crazy badminton powers as well! Afterwards, Anna, Amy, Lauren, Shelton and I went on over to New Life to meet up with Derrick, Thomas and Theo, and commenced to play, play, play...=) At one point, the drive up there was so long (on the streets anyways), we had all agreed to just go to Target if we were really lost. ^_^ We did get there though! The guys proceeded to the basketball tournament, while the rest of us ventured forth to play some more badminton with Robin and Melanny, do the Missions Walk (as it turned out, we were the only people who did it. Mmm. More fruit snacks for us!), and played Tank. An excellent game...especially at the end, where we got to play and go nuts with the leftover ammo balls. ^_^ Lauren and I had the entire church scouted out while chasing, ambushing, and hiding from Anna and Amy. =) I even got to see my long-time homies, Jeremy and Rosalyn! Ping-pong, especially with mad skills by TNT, dominated our pre-dinner bbq. I still owe Rick a ping-pong game, and this, I won't forget! ^_~ Despite our little discussion in the car of slaughterhouses and ground beef in the ride there, all of us still ate our hamburgers at the rally, hee hee. =)

Heidi and Ralm both were at the LA Marathon yesterday. Ralm does it every year - no biggie, hee hee. But it was Heidi's first attempt!!! How did you do homegirl??? I hope your caps aren't actually busted...=)

After chillin' with Fred, David, Derrick and Shelton after church, Shelton and I chilled a bit at home - doing work, watching Food Network (mmm!) - before I went over to visit Giang for dinner! ^_^ We went to new Barnes and Noble in Redlands, where she did some studying, and I some reading, before meandering around the shopping center, running into Target, 10 minutes before it closed, and then heading back to her place, where we had yummy wraps for dinner! We had some Indian Chapatti wraps filled with Spicy Hummus, Chicken, and Spinach and Swiss Cheese...with a strawberry mochi ice cream for dessert. =) Courtesy of that wonderful Trader Joe's. =) After work today, I DID stop by TJ and shamelessly picked up those items to make these yummy wraps while at school (I have that little fridge and microwave, which, by the way Heidi, has been AWESOME this entire year!).

Aw, that giant lobster that was in the news died...they should have just left it alone in the wild...=(

The Riverside Plaza by my school has really spiffed up. When leaving Trader Joe's, I could see that it was all shiny and upscale-lookin'. Cheesecake Factory? One here and Victoria Gardens? My goodness, this is almost too good to be true...! Too bad I didn't buy Heidi's house last summer, hee hee...though arg...at this rate...housing prices ain't ever going to drop...I'll never be able to afford one...=P

03.04.05, Friday:

[11:08pm] Ahhh...just finished Rain of Gold...all 562 pages...all worth the time to be swept away into a world that is magical, mystical, and yet real at the same time...Wow. =) The dreams and visions that a few characters had in this story makes me wonder - are we now too immersed in our computers, video games, work, and all those other busy world things that we can't hear God as clearly as these people - who never took life for granted, who were so close to Him on a personal level - nor recognize Him when He speaks? It's interesting to ponder upon...

It's been another good day, mostly. =) We science teachers spent the entire day in the library, making assessments for our unit to please the almighty LD. =P The bastard never even showed up to "help us out", as stated yesterday - in fact, because he wasn't even on campus, we honestly could have been somewhere else, instead of the library, on a testing day, when lots of kids had to go there to finish their test because they didn't finish it in one class period. Some of the science teachers wouldn't bring their voices down, even when I asked - I think part of it was rebellion to LD, in not letting us go somewhere else, but at the same time, like what all these politics in education does, it only hurts the kids, and not us. =P (Then again, these test scores mean little to the kids themselves, in terms of affecting their future. It's more for the school, if anything.)

Our team had scheduled a trip to the Museum of Tolerance. Buses, reservations for the tour - everything scheduled. LD shot it down, because the only date that we could get it was too close to testing. If even a certain Literacy Coach couldn't get him to change his mind, well then, there's no hope for that field trip. Sigh. So sad...is testing all that matters? What happened to the good ol' days? Kids in kindergarten don't even have nap time anymore...which is sad...=(

We took an hour lunch at Islands, and after school, Junko and I went down to Boba Cafe, where I got hot Lavendar Milk Tea with boba. WOW, it was yummy. ^_^ I will have to get it again if I go there, hee hee...=) It's always fun to hang out with Junko. Amongst other things, she has good taste with food: gummy snacks and boba makes a lethal combination. ^_^ We chilled at the Mad Hatter as well - they have excellent prices on all kinds of old/used CDs, hee hee...After all that, I stopped by the gym again for more ellipticalling - it's sooo nice to get that walking fix taken care of! Ah, but if I could only walk to actual places, instead of staring at the TV (since I didn't bring my book with me in the car). However, I would have scored lots of money on Wheel of Fortune, if I was actually on the show. I guessed every one of them, including that last bonus one, before all the players! Hee hee. =)

Not tired yet. Maybe I will grade a bit. =)

03.03.05, Thursday:

[08:15pm] Ahhh...relaxation...at last! =) I was at work late, preparing things for tomorrow - I'm out again, for a Science Department day to do all the things that LD wants. =P At least we got the day for it - see, we were told to do all these things, and he suggested buyback hours...I was like, if we have to do all that after school, after we're all already tired out...why not just take a day off and do it then? So we did! =) We were hoping to have it one of the district rooms somewhere, or at someone's home, but as it turns out, we'll just be in the school library...so he can "help us out" when needed. =P No biggie. So yeah, I left late, after helping kids till 5 and preparing plans afterwards.

I decided to meander after work, since I had graded everything and had everything absolutely DONE! ^_^ *glee* I dropped by Marshall's, and was wowed by their neat things, hee hee. =) Lo and behold, I saw what I thought was the craziest, giant shoulder purse ever - and the more I looked at it, the more I lliked it, and well now...it's home with me, hee hee. So now, I have a big purse. Dorothy, if you're reading this, somehow, your giant purse influenced me, hee hee. =) Actually, I think, after I came back from China, I became more accessory-minded. I think that I would still have to ultimately blame Tina for it all - she is the root of all accessories. ^_^

With time to finally chill tonight, I'll be making a few phone calls to confirm Sports Day attendance, finish Rain of Gold, and who knows? Maybe even email for fun, or write some letters out! ^_^ Or, I could sleep early. =)

I uploaded more pictures! Return of the Edi, from Edwin's visit. =)

I've never mentioned it on my website, but my mom reminded me this weekend - I'm not really a Lau! In fact, my grandpa (dad's side), who was adopted into the Lau family, was really a Chan. So, I'm really a Chan. But either way, I'm still the same person, Lau or Chan...though I think Lau is more fun to write in Chinese. =)
