April 2004
Hmm...I avoided pink for February...so I couldn't use the lavender for April. Thus, pink it is! ^_~

[07:25pm] Dang, it's been hot! And heat is not my friend, heh heh...
Weekend Recap -
Friday: See xanga, as my FTP wasn't up yet, heh heh...
Saturday: At night, Shelton, my bro and I went to the park to get some bball in...we played a pick up game with this itty-bitty little kid who was much shorter than me...he was full of energy, and pretty good! After he left, DVD showed up, so we played some more - DVD and I played against my bro and Shelton, and guess what? We won! Ha ha...I'm sure it's not due to my playing by THAT much, but I did make a few shots! Woo hoo! ^_^ (Wait, what am I talking about? A 2-on-2 game? I'm SURE I helped out somehow! ^_^). After, we watched "Anna in Kung-Fu Land" ("Magic Kitchen", starring Sammi Cheng, was boring, so after about 10 minutes, we gave up and switched, hee hee...). =)
Sunday: We had a joint Sunday School, with this lady (Esther Su) who presented about Evolution and Creationism. I liked what she had to say, and so I asked her afterwards if I could have her powerpoint, but she said no - it was copyrighted. When I told Sam Wong this, we were both like, ha ha...we could make cooler ones! ^_~ But her presentation was awesome - she presented things in a way that was really clear and well thought out. =) Despite my fears about my waning voice, I was able to sing while leading worship at church! *whew* There was also a new girl there, Tiffany! She's a fellow internet junkie (Hi Tiffany! ^_^ You know php??? Ahhhh! My bro was supposed to teach me that last summer, but he never got to it. So yeah...neat forums! I will php one day too, ha ha...!), and seems to be fun and active, heh heh. She'll be out here in a few months - yay! More girls for CCF, hee hee...^_^
After church, we all caravaned up to San Gabriel for our Bball game...it was cool because there were many courts, and they could have two games going on at once, so everyone got to play, even me, hee hee...=) It was nice to see the homies up there, as I haven't seen many of them in a long tme, including Chooie!!! =) Oh yeah...Calvin! When will you post up pictures??? ^_^ After, we took off to the 99 Ranch Market where I could buy my squid (8 boxes! For all the 7th grade science teachers...not to eat, but for lab dissections. ^_^) and we all ate at Earthen Restaurant. Wow, they had fresh, yuuuuumy Green Onion Pancakes, and potstickers that were just-right-crispy...as well as lots of yummy noodles. ^_^ We took Anna and Jonathan home too, where we got to play with their hyperactive daschunds a bit, until they decided to go #2 right next to us. =Þ
Okee dokee...off to hip hop...before I come home to do more work! >_<
04.19.04, Monday:
[09:40pm] Happy Birthday Elaine!!! ^_^ New pictures up in the Pictures section. ^_^ Includes Ontario Mills pics and April Bdays from yesterday...including our New Controversial Picture of the Year! Hee hee...actually...I say the best one was still that first one up in SF...it wasn't on digital...I still have it...I COULD scan it...but I'll save them the embarrassment, muah ha ha...^_^ I have fun sticky pics from the Mills too, only I didn't take a pic of them and scan them up. But Oh! I will give you a picture of Herbert here...
| Herbert is the baby praying mantis/grasshopper that fell onto my car window while I was leaving from Dorothy's last week...I didn't want him to fly off my car while I got on the freeway, so I took him in the car and drove him home with me. He certainly responded to his surroundings, crawling around and exploring all over the dashboard. |
And then he jumped on my steering wheel after I made it clear that he was not to go there. I put my hand in front of him, and he jumped up on it anyways. After I put him back on the dash, he'd still go back and want to get on that steering wheel. Anyways, when I got home, I let him walk on my hand and then I took him to a flower in the front of the house. Even before getting there, he was waving his little arms towards the plant, hee hee...so I dropped him off, took a picture...and here he is! ^_^
04.17.04, Saturday:
[09:10pm] Another set of karazy-busy days! I'm blogging because I feel guilty for not blogging, ha ha...^_^ Everything seems so busy coming back from break...oy...and I feel so tired...I just want to sleep...heh heh...=) Anyways, last night, I went to Irvine, for Mei-Chi's bday party! Because it didn't start till 9, Shelton and I trekked down to Target to do some shopping, and then had the most spicy level of spicy squid balls at Tapioca Express. I had the spiciest chicken pieces before, and could handle them...but these squid balls were WAY crazy! They were literally RED, like fireballs...and they were...wow...heh heh...that, or I hadn't had hot stuff in a while, and my taste buds were just too overwhelmed. I could only handle two of them...weak...hee hee...^_^
Mei-Chi's party was interesting - there was a mix of so many different people! People from UCI, those from her Oriental Medicine class, those that dance with her, and Italian people that knew Francesco...it ranged from older folks that had kids my age to all kinds of ethnicity - Korean, Chinese, Caucasian, Indian, European...everything! It was good to see her again though, and I'm glad she was able to pull out some time from the spotlight to chat and catch up with me! =)
We had our car wash for the Math and Science Day (Physics Day) at Six Flags today, at school. We ended it early, around 11, since the rain started to really come down then, and we were all very wet and very cold, heh heh...mostly due to some extreme water fighting in between car washing. =) One girl had the idea of "Let's get Ms. Lau!!!" and suddenly, EVERYONE was into it, and I was chased and hunted down by a mob of 13-14 year olds, held down, and drenched with several buckets of water! Hee hee...it's fun working with 8th graders. =) It was a fun few hours where I had to do little behavior checking - I only yelled at a few kids, about twice for two major things. One of which included that they thought it'd be funny to harass cars that were stopped at the intersection in front of us for a car wash. They wanted to pretend to be those guys that run up to people's cars and start asking for car washes...it sounds funny, but it's more of a harassment to the people in car, if anything. I suppose it's something you have to actually experience first. =Þ They were creative with the car wash sign though - pushing the crosswalk button at the intersection and waving the sign up and down as they crossed the street, hee hee...^_^ After it started to get cold, one of the moms was kind enough to go get us donuts, dry off some towels at the Laundromat, and even bring us blankets and sweaters (that were dry *ahem*) to keep us warm. =) Since we ended early, I stopped by church for our Annual Spring Cleanup and helped my dad a bit in the sanctuary, before chowing down on lunch and heading home to do after-work for the car wash and some other school things. I like the rain, but I've decided that I don't like washing cars, soaked, and in the rain. ^_^
04.13.04, Wednesday:
[08:13pm] Happy Birthday to Gilbert!!! ^_^
I am mailing my application for BLCU tomorrow morning! Wish the envelope luck on its journey to China...^_^
I got a new cell phone today! I switched to Verizon, and got the Kyocera SE47 Slider Phone, hee hee...I like the colors...the sliding...and I might as well get another phone since I've been thinking about it for such a long time, hee hee...^_^ I don't need any fancy internet/picture taking abilities...and the only game I need is Tetris, really...so this thing worked out just fine. =) But yeah, Verizon has this thing where I can all other Verizon users for free! Neato...! Who else uses Verizon??? ^_^
04.12.04, Monday:
[05:53pm] Back to school! Heh heh...the day went well...! ^_^ Why? Because my 8th graders had their quiz (hey, they all voted to have this quiz AFTER break, as expected...so it gave me a day of rest, so to say, hee hee...) and, we started "Living Things" for the 7th graders. We talked about weird organisms (new word, kinda), and then they had to debate at their tables about whether this crazy top thing (I couldn't find any wind-up toys, so I got these tops that light up and make a noise when they spin) was alive or not. So it was relaxing and fun. =)
My fish is dying...! =( It has Dropsy, as I said on Xanga last week...and I've been using medicine in its water...but it's not helping much...the giant ulcer/goiter/tumor thing is growing bigger, and now, I can see a little bit of pineconing...it's a fatal disease, most likely genetics...so I can't do much to help it...=( It's not lethargic (it was for a little bit, but not anymore now)...still active and swimming about when I look at it...=( In fact, right now, it's fins are moving super fast...but maybe that's because it's much more heavier now, and it takes more energy to keep himself up...?
I got these cool Rollitos things...they're like Doritos, but rolled up. =) I came home today, hoping to try some...and the whole bag is gone...my brother...grr...He owes me a bag! I didn't even want the whole bag...I just wanted to try some, because I was so curious about them...he allllways does this...sigh...
I like this one song, "8th World Wonder", by Kimberley Locke. The song plays a bit on the website, hee hee...I didn't know she was from American Idol. And I didn't know she went by "K-Lo", hee hee...
Oh yeah...! Weekend blurb - Friday, I found out my fish was sick...after getting some meds for him, I went to have a sushi boat lunch with Dorothy! =) Then I came home...and then went to Good Friday Service, where Thomas, Shelton, Josiah and I shared our messages. WoOT wOoT! ^_^ Saturday...took some girls from YF out shopping at Ontario Mills - Elaine, Vanessa, and Anna, heh heh...we went around the mall twice...visited the pet store...ate at the Mad Greek...and then chilled at my house...later on, they watched a movie while I practiced for worship with Shelton and my bro...and then I took them home after. =) Sunday, my bro, Shelton and I went to church super early to set up and practice again...then we led the Early Morning Worship...Amy came too! I haven't seen her in a year or more...she's getting MARRIED next May!!! (hee hee...no, I can't keep it a secret, ha ha...! ^_^) After that, we all had breakfast, then worship service. Church all day long...after...my mom took me with her to grocery shop all over Corona...we went to Vons, Ralphs, and Albertson's. Why??? Because she saw deals at all these places and went to one place for one thing, and another for another thing. I wonder if the savings added up to the gas spent driving around? ^_^
I think I'm going to China this summer!!!! ^_^ There's a Chinese Language Program at the Beijing Language and Culture University...I must notify Christie and Mike...! ^_^
04.08.04, Thursday:
[10:20pm] Ack! =( Wonderfalls isn't on TV anymore...and look at all these potentially funny episodes that weren't aired...! I hope Fox runs them...I like this show...a lot...!!! >_< Instead, it's currently replaced by a very unoriginal silly reality TV show thing (aren't there enough of those?) called The Swan. I'm sure you've all heard of it - plastic surgery used to alter people that society has deemed "ugly" to transform them into something that society can call "beautiful". Haven't you all seen that Twilight Zone episode about plastic surgery? Twilight Zone was much more insightful than this...*sigh*
I had a question today: Why is the bunny rabbit associated with leaving colorful eggs for kids on Easter? Bunnies don't lay eggs. Hee hee....^_^
I think I am still mourning the loss of Wonderfalls...=Þ
Well, I had a fun day! ^_^ I went down to Newport Beach, where I sat on my beach mat and used my blanket to keep me warm (it was cold) so I could think and write what I'm sharing for tomorrow's Good Friday service. I got a lot of thinking done, even though there were some college boys that decided to plop themselves near me and throw Frisbees that could have come close to me to slice my head off, hee hee. =) And they later went to play in the water, so I had some quiet time. It was neat watching people at the beach too - so cold, and yet, still dashing out there with their boogie boards and swimsuits, hee hee...I think I had a lot of fun watching this rather *ahem* large man bob up and down with his boogie board on the waves. He kept going back for more, and he was by himself - he was having so much fun, and it was infectious, because it was fun watching, hee hee...^_^
After, I had lunch at Daphne's Greek Cafe with Shelton! =) Melody couldn't make it...but that's okay...next time girlie...we Irviners need to stick together, heh heh! =) Lunch was fun. And Shelton gets a whole hour off for lunch, hee hee...a treat that I only get on days where we have no students and we're to be at school to grade. That's twice a year. =P But, like he said, we DO get summer...^_^
On my way home, Giang called me to meet her at Barnes and Noble! So I went on over there, and we spent about 6 hours there - doing lots of good talking and catching up, studying and working, and spent the last bit at Ruby's for dinner - I got a Vegetable Soup, and we split a cheese quesadilla. =) Eating out TWICE in a day! That's a lot...!!! I feel like how Calvin did last week (was it last week?). =) I did get the Scientific American Special Edition on Dinosaurs, the new Discover Magazine for the month, and an Outer Space trivial game thing for class. I used my gift cards...that I bought anyways, from a student's fundraiser a while ago, hee hee...^_^ I love hangin' out with my homegirl! =)
My dad is sick...=(
04.07.04, Wednesday:
[10:50am] Happy Birthday Eym-Soon! ^_^
Mmmm!!!! Me and Tako went to Rock N Fish last night down in Manhattan Beach. WOW...!!! It's my new favorite white-people-place to eat at, next to Cheesecake Factory (which I have undying loyalty for, simply because I worked there. And they have major good food!). I can't say it's better than Cheesecake, because I've only had a few dishes at this place, but so far, so good. =)
| Hello! ^_^ Your two very happy guinea pigs at Rock N Fish, at your service! ^_^ We forgot to take pictures until AFTER we dug into our food, even though we'd plan it ahead of time. We were much too excited to eat...so all of the pictures are some time after we've chowed our way into it, hee hee....^_^ |
| We had the Blackened Jumbo Shrimp Penne in a Creamy Pesto Sauce and the Crabcakes with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Clam Chowder. Yowsers!!! ^_^ | |
|
Y'all know I love pesto like mad...and penne??? My favorite of all pastas? Combined together??? PLUS shrimp??? My goodness, I was completely tingly! ^_^ The shrimp was really, really good - blackened, slightly spicy, meaty, and crispy! Pesto emanated all throughout the whole dish...yummers! =) |
| The Clam Chowder was fifty times better than at Claim Jumper's (my former favorite now?) - chunky, flavorful, but at the same time, not too salty. The crabcakes were crabby - lots of crab meat instead of flour, good remoulade sauce, and zinged with some lemon juice, and just-right crispy. The mashed potatoes were...superbly silky! BETTER than Cheesecake's, and that amazed me...! |
| Dessert? None other than Creme Brulee! The caramelized sugar was sweet and crunchy, forming a perfect layer on top of the deliciousness inside. ^_^ The inside was soooo good!!! It was more pudding-like than custard-like...and I liked it this way. Rich with creme, vanilla (mmm!) and who knows what other killer-fats, it was seriously heavenly...The best I've had...! ^_^ |
| One more picture...on the way there...on the corner of Crenshaw and Manhattan Beach Blvd, there's a Chong's Chinese Food...I've never seen a drive-thru Chinese fast food place...so I HAD to put this up...! ^_^ |
Thus was my adventure yesterday! ^_^
04.05.04, Monday:
[10:46pm] First official day of break...full of stuff already...^_^ I woke up...did a bunch of house things, and then went to dim sum with Heidi! ^_^ As I am Chinese, I MUST show off our good food to this white girl, ha ha...so I took her to none other than Sam Woo Seafood! ^_^ I went to the Diamond bakery too, to get some egg tarts, coconut tarts, and all those good things...it keeps my mom happy. =) She was in a much more jovial mood yesterday, and it'd be nice to keep it like that, hee hee...^_^ Actually, our whole family was laughing over almost everything yesterday, even when we couldn't find our grandpa's grave for a while, hee hee...(it was the traditional "grave sweeping day"...my dad says that it's more to just check whether that little plot of land was still there, heh heh...of course, he was joking...! ^_^) When I got home, I prepped the food for dinner, made cookie dough to freeze, and played tennis with my cousin! ^_^ After that, I made dinner, ate, went to hip hop...came back, showered, washed hair, talked on the phone...and here I am! ^_^ I think I will watch a movie downstairs with my bro now...^_^
Heh heh, this was one of those "What I did all day long" blogs. No thoughtful comments today. =) Although I thought it was interesting that an empty potato chip bag flew out of a trash truck that was in front of us on the 71 freeway. It defeats the purpose, ya know...? *sigh* Our poor planet. That's why those Food Generators on Star Trek would be so good for us to have...quick...someone invent one so I can order "Egg Tart. Sam Woo Seafood Dim Sum Style. Fresh!", hee hee....^_^
King IM'ed, but then he disappeared! Where are you King??? ^_^
04.03.04, Saturday:
[09:15am] I wish I didn't have to deal with my mom when she nags me about what she nags me about. Bleah. But don't all daughters have to endure this? I did threaten to go to a club, find someone random, and get married, hee hee, but this time, she didn't like the joke. =Þ I suppose I don't take the whole I-must-find-someone-NOW-and-be-ready-to-marry-and-have-kids all that seriously eh? I'm really, really, really not thinking much on it, but she is, constantly. It's like our roles should be reversed almost! *sigh*
I slept in today! ^_^
Ninien returned my gloves and beanie last weekend, but when I opened up the bag later, there was only one glove! *gasp* I'll need to ask her about the other one, heh heh...
Maybe I should get out of my pajamas now...and start living the day...! ^_^
04.02.04, Friday:
[09:50pm]
Happy Birthday to James! ^_^
Yay!!! Finally on Spring Break!!! ^_^ It's been a lovely day, at school and after school. The rain last night was awesome - crazy thunderstorming, wind and rain...while I'm sitting cozy inside [If I was driving at that time, I wouldn't have enjoyed it quite as much. =)]. Anyways, today, the leftover rain - scattered sprinkles, that is - pittered pattered here and there, and it was nice. =) After school, my bro and I headed out to Ikea in West Covina (I wanted to get a bunch of those paper tape measures they have...I can laminate them at school and use them as long term metersticks, instead of the ones that we have now, which over the years have slowly been broken or messed up one way or the other. Plus, with these, they can't swordfight - one less thing to manage, right? ^_^), but the 71 on-ramp was closed. Which meant I'd have to go back through the 91 East during heavy traffic just to get on the 71...so we drove straight on out to Costa Mesa. =) We went to Mitsuwa so I could eat dinner (my bro already ate), and then we headed to the Anti-Mall, as I'd never been there before. Anti it was indeed - upon entrance, they had some kinda plant growing outside that...well...stank...hee hee...it was an interesting place, and there WAS an Urban Outfitters even, but nothing too appealing to me. Then we were off to glorious, glorious Ikea, where there were more than enough neat furniture and accessories for me to play with (like this wierd but cool chair!). Giang called me up and she was in the area, so she dropped by and she hung out with us there too! ^_^ After our exploration, we went back to Corona, stopped by at Wienershnitzel, headed home...and here I am! An excellent start to Spring Break! ^_^
04.01.04, Thursday:
[10:53pm] Ooo. I think I've discovered a new TV night! Femdogg recommended Tru Calling, and I like it...not only does it have Faith in it (from Buffy), but it has an interesting premise...and right after that is Wonderfalls! How perfect is that??? ^_^
'Twas April Fool's Day today. And we DID have a quiz for part of class (it was scheduled, not a pop quiz) today, and it DID count. =)
One more day till Spring Break...!!! ^_^
