My Slow Descent Into Loserhood - My Atari Games
Midnight Magic
Rating: 8.5
High Score (So Far): 197505

What an improvement from Video Pinball.  This game has nearly nothing wrong with it except (a) that I generally dislike pinball video games (b) that there is really no skill involved and (c) I make the ratings around here so either fall in line or hit the bricks.
I am hesitant about video pinball games.  Even that super - duper fancy - dancy one for Windows sucks the friggin bozak.  For me there is no alterantive to pinball.  I don't think I've ever caught myself saying "geez, I'd really like to play pinball, but all I have is this here Atari.  Ah, well, Midnight Magic will be a satisfactory substitute!"  There is something (how do you say...) sensual about pinball that can't be reproduced.
Yet sure enough Atari did.  Twice.  Let us agree to this: It is a good game.  But it's not pinball.  It's kinda like playing Battlezone and then pretending to be a tank commander.  It's time for a reality check.  And that's a check my butt can cerainly cash.  What??

But this game is fun in its own way.  I like the fact that you get 5 balls.  3 is just never enough for me, it seems.
Given the quality of this game, I start to wonder why I ever had to play Video Pinball.  There is really no comparison.  I still play both, just to keep the skills sharp.  My heart is with Video Pinball, as it has seen me through some rocky times, but my vote is ultimately for this game.

But if you really want to play pinball just go to the damn laundromat.  I mean, you've been wearing that same shirt for a week now.
