My Slow Descent Into Loserhood - My Atari Games
DOLPHIN (Activison)

Dolphin is a pretty decent game and fairly addictive.  You are a cute little dolphin being chased by a raging octopus.  I've never met an octopus bigger than a dolphin and I hope I never do.  I think he's pissed because somebody stole five of his legs!
The game plays little tones to tell you where the opening is in the wall of seahorses.  The higher the tone, the further from the bottom the opening is.  I ususlly just end up timing it right and jumping the damn seahorses altogether.  You run and run from this loser octopus and then the magic birdie flies along.  Eat him and he will give you the power to sink your foe.  I didn't know dolpins ate birds, but I guess Mr. Atari knows what he's talking about.
When you eat the magic birdie you only have a few seconds to catch the octopus.  Do it and you will be rewarded with praise and points.  I suggest yelling "who's the tough guy now, eh octopus?!" at your tv.  It works for me.  But if you wait too long or if old octy catches up to you, you will vaporise for some reason (right).  A pretty lame death if you ask me.
Like I said, this game is o.k.  It gets kind of repetetive after a while and there is not a whole lot of strategy to it.  Yet it is another classic I used to play as a kid in my friend Paul's basement on the old black-and-white.

Obviously a marine biologist was not consulted on this game.  Octopi bigger than dolphins with three legs?  Dolphins eating birds and going crazy?  A wall of seahorses?  Now I
know they're small!

This game gets points for nostalgia reasons, and because the animation and colour is good.
