Bushwalking
When I joined Gollin & Co (my first job) I met & became friendly with Dave Henson who belonged to the Rucksack Bushwalking Club & was invited on a day walk to meet other members.
I really enjoyed the activities & became a regular on their day walks. I then joined the club & began  going on weekend walks that required overnight camping. As I became more fit longer trips were made untill it was easy to cover 100 mile walks over a weekend from Friday night to Sunday night.
I also met some members of the Kameruka Club who were mainly school teashers (both men & women) & they tended to do more difficult & long walks which I enjoyed. I eventually became Walks Secretary which entailed planning the walking Calander. Over the Christmas Holidays each year a number of members, useually 4 to 6 would plan a 2 or 3 week walk. One of those trips I participated on were from the Chalet at Mt Kosiosko up over the Rams Heads down to Blue Lake on to the Geehi River & then up Hannell's Spur ( the single longest & highest ridge in Australia) which took us to the saddle between Kosiosko & Mt Townsend from where we headed to Guthiga & then travelled home by vehicle. Another year we walked from Omeo to Mansfield via the Bull Plain Spur & the Crosscut Saw in the Victorian High Country.

One of the "Fun" trips with the Kamerukas was the infamous Race to Mt Guragang when 3 teams of 2 walkers bet they knew the fastest way to reach the summit of the Mountain. One group went via the chains on Narrow Neck another via Carlons Farm & Ron Miller & myself went via Devils Hole & the Six Foot Track. Ron & I were the successful team making it back down the mountain before any of the others made it to the summit. This naturally led to much stirring over the next few months but a big "Bash" was held to celebrate the Event!
