Computer
Applications I
Instructors: Michael Gambrell and Eva Papazickos
Brief Course Description: This course is designed to be an introductory class in the concepts of information systems. Topics covered include: an introduction to personal computer applications software such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and graphics design. Students will become familiar with using the Internet in a productive and efficient manner.
Expectations: You are expected to follow the rules as
outlined in the Gulliver Student Handbook, as well as adhere to
Gulliver's Acceptable Use Policy for Computers. You are
responsible for your computer station during the class period. Since
Applications I is primarily self-paced, reading and concentration are essential
in order to follow the guidelines contained in the classroom textbook that
accompanies the class. Therefore a workroom atmosphere is
in effect for the computer labs at all times.
Supplies: All assignments
must be saved on the student’s school-assigned network
location. Text books will always be in
the classroom.
ALL WORK MUST BE PRINTED AND HANDED IN TO THE TEACHER—STUDENT’S NAME AND
ASSIGNMENT NUMBER MUST APPEAR AT TOP OF PAGE.
Grading:
Exercises, worksheets, and projects are assigned throughout
the semester. A grade of "A" is awarded upon satisfactory completion
of each individual assignment. An assignment that is not completed
satisfactorily will receive an "I", and students will have an
opportunity to re-do that assignment. At the end of the semester, students
receiving an "A" for every assignment will receive an "A"
for the course. Otherwise, a grade of "Incomplete" will be given
until every assignment given an "I" is re-done to the satisfaction of
the instructor.
