Project 3

For project 3, you have some choice in which project assignment you perform. Select one of the following options and complete the project as described. No files or photographs are provided for you. You will need to develop your own materials. Since you do not have a "real" customer who can provide you with photographs and content, you are allowed to "borrow" materials from other web sites. You will, however, need to site them in your "resources" page.

Option 1: Hydroponic Gardening

You have been hired by Burgman's Nursery [or some other large nursery grower] to create a web site on Hydroponic Gardening. Burgman is expanding into the Hydroponic Supplies area and wishes to provide an informational web site for their customer base. The basic idea is to provide information and make is easy and fun for customers to try hydroponic gardening and thus buy hydroponic supplies from Burgman Nursery. Unfortunately, the nice folks at Burgman's really don't know that much about Hydroponics, so you are "on your own" in gathering content for this site.

Option 2: Dog Racing

You have been hired by PJ's Outdoor Sports (in Fayetteville) to create a web site on Dog Racing. PJ is expanding into the Dog Racing Accessories area and wishes to provide an informational web site for their customer base. The basic idea is to provide information and make is fun and interesting for customers to get involved in this sport. [Note: The dog racing association has recently sanctioned a new dog racing club in Northwest Arkansas. They'll be using the big intramural field behind NWACC until their new track facilities are built.] Unfortunately, the nice folks at PJ don't know "squat" about dog racing, so you are "on your own" in gathering content for this site.

Option 3: Home Wine/Beer Making

You have been hired by Target (in Fayetteville) to create a web site on home wine and beef making. Target plans to carry a line of supplies for this hobby and wishes to provide an informational web site for their customer base. The basic idea is to provide information and make it fun and interesting for customers to get involved in this "craft". [Note: Be sure to include any relevant laws concerning the home production of alcohol.] Unfortunately, the nice folks at Target don't know anything about home brewing, so you are "on your own" in gathering content for this site.

Option 4: Koalas Farming

You have been hired by the Tractor Supply Company [S. Shehada ] to create a web site on Koalas Farming for fun and profit. Tractor Supply plans to sell baby Koalas as well as carry a line of supplies for this hobby and wishes to provide an informational web site for their customer base. The basic idea is to provide information and make it fun and interesting for customers to get involved in this hobby. Unfortunately, the nice folks at Tractor Supply don't know anything about home Koalas, so you are "on your own" in gathering content for this site.

Option 5: Alternative Energy Sources

You have been hired by the Wal-Mart to create a web site on Alternative Energy sources. Wal-Mart plans to sell a full line of supplies and components for Solar and Wind energy projects that can be done by the average homeowner. They wish to provide an informational web site for their customer base. The basic idea is to provide information and make it fun and interesting for customers to get involved in this form of home improvement. Unfortunately, the nice folks at Wal-Mart don't know anything about Alternative Energy, so you are "on your own" in gathering content for this site.

Animations:
In this project, we will be adding some interactive elements to your web page. Specifically, you need to incorporate the use of JavaScript and Dreamweaver animations into this project. Don't worry. You don't need to know how to program in JavaScript in order to use these in your pages. There are huge libraries of JavaScript code that are available to web designers like you. All you have to do is insert the code into your pages and perhaps modify it slightly in order to meet your needs.

If you haven't worked with these elements before you may want to read an article or two to get an idea of what you can do with these tools. Here is a good one from CNET.com, JavaScript for Beginners, at: http://www.builder.com/Programming/Javascript/ss01.html?tag=st.bl.7264.dir1.JavaScript_1 Tutorials 8 and 9 in your textbook offer more information on JavaScript and how it can be used.

Turning in the Assignment

Turn in the assignment by uploading it to your student created site on geocities. Place all of the files for this assignment in a project 3 folder. After you have uploaded it, check all of your hyperlinks and make sure all of your graphics appear properly in the pages. When you are satisfied, send your instructor an email with a hyperlink to your work.

Creating a Link from Your Index.htm page

Go back and edit the index.htm file you created as a part of Project 1 and create a hyperlink that points to Project 3. Be sure to upload the index.htm file after you have edited it.
