Of Stars and Soulmates

Do soulmates really exist? Did we just make them up to ease the pain of a broken heart in our past? Is it an excuse for our solitude? Is it a promise of a beautiful future, which no one can assure us of? My questions do not have absolute answers. In fact, they are dead-ends. When a conversation reaches a point when we must ask these questions we just stop talking and start wondering.

Sometimes, we come up with answers almost mystical in nature. Sometimes, the best questions we can ask ourselves are those that we cannot find answers to. Then, and only then can we start living. Life is a search for answers. It is a cup to drink from to quench our thirst for learning. Now, we can no longer look at stars and see them in a magical way and wonder what they are made of, how they can stay up there, why they seem to twinkle at night and why we cannot see them during the day. We already have answers to those questions. Imagine a life without questions. Imagine a life where everything can be explained. A place where no phenomenon or miracle exists is a place so boring, so drab and gray. In such a place, we would not need our brains for thinking we will just need it to remember words. I do not belong in such a place. I cannot just exist. I crave to live life. I need to experience everything it has to offer and refuse to become jaded in spite of all the pain, sorrow and hatred that are part of the whole package. And with all that comes magic, a sudden rush to believe in things that nobody dares explain or any attempt would prove futile and inconsequential.

I am a hopeless romantic. I live in a world where wishes made to stars are granted. There are wishing wells, which turn coins into wonderful, magical moments. There, heroes exist to save damsels in distress. There, diamonds mean forever. There, dreams can come true. There, angels keep me safe from harm. There, prayers are answered. In my world, everything happens for a reason. In my world, each individual can make a difference. In my world, a soul is created for another. In my world, kindness is rewarded with blessings. In my world there is a merciful God who watches over us and makes sure that every one of us is accounted for.

In my world…true love exists.

Next time you look up at the stars, do not ask why people believe in soulmates, instead, ask where yours might be.

Then maybe, just maybe, your soul will find its star.
