PUBLIC EDUCATION DEBATES
By Ronald C. Tobin, Editor and Publisher
The question of whether or not government should play a role in educating people has become a hot topic in the pages of THE THOUGHT. I am not entirely sure why. The Philosophers Guild is a libertarian-oriented association. That being the case, I had come to believe that the notion of complete separation of Education and State, which would mean the end of tax (extortion) supported government (public) schools, was supported by most of the readers. I think that most readers do agree with this, at least as an ultimate goal. Many principled libertarian minarchists would have us phase out the government school system over a number of years. I can understand that attitude, it is similar to that held by libertarian anarchists, like myself, who believe that the State must be dismantled over time.
At any rate, this page will now serve as the launching point for public education debates that were run in THE THOUGHT and thus are placed onto this website. Comments and criticisms are welcome.
