| This is my baby. It was originally a prototype vehicle for Isuzu's 1991 Impulse. Cal Poly Pomona recieved the vehicle, around this time, minus an engine. It was originally a testbed for Cal Poly Pomona's original APEX Hybrid Electric Vehicle team. Nicknamed "the mule" it was used to test different drive systems for their competition vehicle. When the team broke apart sometime in 1995 it was put into mothball storage. | ||||||||||||||||

| In the Fall of 1999, my current senior project advisor, Professor Tom Banwell suggested I look into using the vehicle for a senior project. When it was presented to me, it was covered in a thick layer of dirt unable to move. After some rewiring and re-conditioning of batteries I was able to get it to work as an electric vehicle. However, it didn't work well. In the spring of 2000 an on-campus organization called the Alternative Vehicle Club was formed and the Impulse was absorbed by this club. I was given the status of Project Leader for the Impulse and now there are a small group of students working on it instead of just me. The drive system on the Impulse is still being improved and in Winter of 2001 testing should begin on it as an electric vehicle. In Spring of 2001 testing should begin on it as a Hybrid Electric Vehicle. | ||||||||||||||||
