40 Years on an Iceberg, There are No Bananas in the Sky, Purple Stew, and Awake, Alert, Alive, Enthusiastic!
40 Years on an Iceberg

I spent 40 years on an iceberg
Flash your 10 fingers 4 times
Over the ocean wide
Make wave motion with arm
Nothing to wear but pyjamas
Touch your head, shoulders, knees, and toes
Nothing to do but slide
             Make slide motion with hands
The weather was cold and icy
Hug yourself
The frost began to bite
Clap hands on "bite"
I had to hug my polar bear
Hug the person next to you
To keep me warm at night!

NOTE- I have also heard "iceberg" replaced with "Canada" and "years" replaced with "minutes"!  I wonder who thought that one up?!?!

NOTE 2- This song is sung slowly and then it gets gradually faster.

There Are No Bananas in the Sky

There are no bananas in the sky, in the sky
There are no bananas in the sky
There's a sun, and a moon, and a coconut cream pie
But there are no bananas in the sky, in the sky

Actions
Bananas- peel imaginary banana
Sky- point up
Sun- Use arms to make circle over head
Moon- Use arms to make a cresent shape
Coconut Cream Pie- Move arms in circular motion over head

NOTE- This is a "take a word away" song where you take a word away each time you sing it.
   1st time- bananas
   2nd time- sky
   3rd- sun
   4th- moon
   5th- coconut cream pie

Purple Stew

We're stuck in a purple stew
Whip-whip, whip- whip
(pretend to be stirring a large bowl)
We're stuck in a purple stew
Scooby-dooby-do
(pinch nose, wave arm, bend knees)
With purple potatoes and purple tomatoes
And even a purple you!

Fancy meeting YOU in a purple stew!
(on you, point to person you picked, or who picked you)

(Everyone stands in a circle, with one person inside. On "and even a purple you!" the person in the center pick a person standing on the outside and pull them into the circle or "stew." Anyone standing inside the circle picks a person to bring inside each time the song gets to the "and even a purple you" line.  This continues until everyone is inside)

Awake, Alert, Alive, Enthusiastic

I am awake, alert, alive, enthusiastic
I am awake, alert, alive, enthusiastic
I am awake alert, alive, I am alive, alert, awake
I am awake alert alive, enthusiastic!

Actions-
Awake- touch head with both hands
Alert- touch shoulders with both hands, left hand on left shoulder, right hand on right)
Alive- touch shoulders with both hands, crossed, left hand on right shoulder, right hand on left shoulder)
Enthusiastic- with both hands slap thighs, clap hands, then snap with both hands

This song becomes progressively faster with each verse

Thanks to Claire Culverwell (see guestbook) for teaching us this song at PPP 2002.
