Belle & Sebastian are a band I cannot praise enough. The Scottish eight-piece are the Kings (and Queens) of Indie-Pop.

The lead singer Stuart Murdoch is possibly one of the greatest song-writer of all time, up their with the wordsmith that is Morrissey. His songs are often accused by lazy journalists from magazines such as the NME of being fey or twee, this couldn't be further from the truth. If you unravel Murdoch's lyrics their songs are about subjects that are far from fey, such as prostitution, child abuse, male rape/female rape, gay sex, sexual ambiguity, masterbation and wet dreams, all with an edge of wit and comedy, but also perfectly whimsical. Songs about riding city buses and turning tables round in Marks and Spencers are all too endearing.

The first two albums are a blend of pop and folk, where as the latter two are more focused on diversity, but all the fans will agree that it is impossible to choose a favourite.

There is something amazing about that band, hence the slightly psychotic yet fun fanbase they have. However, the world of Belle & Sebastian is something special, that is clear. I advise you to join it.
