Film Unit Plan

Overview

For my unit plan, I chose to use the recent film, Capote. I felt this film had a lot to
offer in terms of characterization, dialogue, cinematography, etc. Essentially, I adapted
a lot of my planning from the IFC Film School website because I really liked how they
grounded students in the fundamentals of film which seems like it would really give
students a sense of ownership over their analysis and the terms to describe it. The first
week is devoted to learning the fundamental elements of film in pairs assigned an
area of expertise, culminating in a short presentation per pair. The second week is
more performance-oriented including an activity where students write and
perform a "deleted scene"  for the class in groups of three or four.
