My two fabulous LGDs are Ginger, a six year old Anatolian Shepherd and Samson, a two year old Great Pyr/Anatolian cross. These two dogs do a wonderful job of protecting the livestock from coyotes, stray dogs, and those nasty ravens.
Samson is my "babysitter," he loves kids and will stay right by their side the first few days they are out in the yard.
The does don't mind the help in cleaning up either!
Ginger is good backup for Samson, if she barks with him,
there is definitely something out there (Samson likes to hear
himself talk!). She's getting older and more artritic, so she will soon be relegated to security instead of protection.
Except for those few times the pups decide they need to escape, they do their job flawlessly. We sure do love them! |
