A Trio of Public Servants
The tag of the episode is the only time the characters change clothing.
Nick's wardrobe
Natalie's wardrobe
Schanke's wardrobe
The episode tag introduces to the viewer one of Forever Knights key character trios. The character of Nick Knight forever straddles the line between mortal and vampire. He isnt a mortal but he abides by their rules, by all outward appearances he appears to be one, and aspires to become one. He is a vampire but by vampire standards he walks the fringes of their kind by limiting his contact with them and restricting his blood intake. It is within the character dynamics that exist between Nick (a vampire who wants to be mortal), Natalie ( a mortal who knows about Nicks vampirism) and Schanke (a mortal who is unaware of Nicks vampirism) that one of the foundational tenants of Forever Knight is established.
This trio of civil servants is utilized in ways to highlight Nicks growing mortality and is constantly contrasted with the centuries old union represented by the vampire trio of Nick, LaCroix, and Janette. Throughout season 1 of Forever Knight casual, light-hearted moments between the two partners, the two friends, or all three were included in the episode tags. Despite having its share of darker moments, the tags are indicative of the breezier atmosphere that season 1 had in comparison to its two later seasons when the tags became more contemplative and somber.
