Dark Knight: The Second Chapter |
Dark Knight: The Second Chapter begins with two men walking down a dark alley. One leads, occasionally turning to see the progress of the other, and the second follows. Both men blend in seamlessly with the alleys dark corners. Black is the dominant color of choice. Clothing wise the LaCroix we see at the tail end of Dark Knight and in Dark Knight: The Second Chapter is different than the LaCroix that is featured in seasons 2 and 3, which had him clothed in rich black fabrics that gave him a regal and untouchable presence. In the series opener LaCroix is clothed in a way that emphasizes his more menacing demeanor. His long dark coat is a contrast to the pale-skinned detached man and plays a large role in creating an ominous visual presence for LaCroix. |

Throughout the series opener LaCroixs entrances rely more on elements other than Nigel Bennetts physical presence. We never see LaCroix in the museum only the results of his attack on the guard. His introduction in the teaser of Dark Knight was reliant on the mournful strains of his rebec and the bookend scene at the end of the episode introduces us to the modern incarnation of LaCroix in much the same way. His voice purrs out of Nicks car radio in the form of a radio DJ who calls out to his old friend and LaCroix once again uses his rebec to remind Nick of the history they sharea history that began so many nights ago in Paris. |

One element that unites the LaCroix from 1228 to the 1992 version is the silver ring that he wears on his right pinky finger. It is the same ring that Nick kissed when he pledged his loyalty to LaCroix after voicing his initial reservations about becoming a vampire. It is the one spot that diverges from the uniform color palate he wears. |
