*Author's note. I don't name the first planet because it simply isn't important. Also I know that naming the second planet Camelot is a bit unimaginative, but I don't care.

Time is a funny thing isn't it? You think you have all the time in the world. Then one day you wake up, and it's time to die.

The setting for this story is a planet far away. On the outskirts of a large city there is a house. It looks familiar normal. Its architecture hints at an oriental influence. A family of three calls this place home. There is a man in his thirties, even though he only looks to be in his twenties. A woman, his wife, she is about the same age, but still looks much younger. And their small baby boy. He is only a few mouths old. They are standing in the kitchen of their home. The man is sitting at the table eating, while his wife holds their child. "Time isn't on our side." The man says.

"It never is." She says.

"But this time it's worse."

"How so?"

"We can't run anymore. We have evaded his grasp for 23 years. But our time has run out."

"So what are we going to do?"

The man thinks for a second. "We have only one option left open to us."

"So we cannot hide anymore?"

"That's right. He knows about my lineage, my bloodline. He has soldiers watching my every move."

"So we are doomed?" She asks. She is become more and more upset, not afraid, just upset.

"Not all of us. I have been able to hide the existence of our son. I have contacted our old friend. He has agreed to raise him."

"You mean?"

"Yes. You know you could go with them if you wanted to. You are not one of my race. You could go back to your home world."

"I know. But if they find out that I am alive then his life might be in danger. Isn't there another way?"

"It's our best option. The planet is far away and hidden from our enemies."

"I see."

"He is coming even as we speak."

"Now what?"

"We must remove anything that would distinguish our son as being one of my kind. Then we must wait and hope that our friend makes it here before we are destroyed."

"Very well." They quickly make preparations. They remove everything from the child that makes him one of his father's people. They pack a few things for him to take with him. Even though they hope he will never have to fight their hated enemy they know that it is a possibility. But time passes quickly and soon the man arrives.

"Hello my old friend."

"And hello to you." The old man says as he enters the house. He is most definitely old. His hair is gray, curly, long, and unkept. His beard is the same way. He looks like the classic sorcerer. "Is everything ready?"

"Yes. But I must speak to you." They step outside.

"What is it my friend?"

"You don't have to call me that. I know that you hate my people just like everyone else in the universe. But what I am asking you to do is not to save or preserve my race. I am asking you to save an innocent child. He has done nothing. And even though he is wild and unruly, it will subside slightly as he grows up. But he will retain some of my race's traits."

"Don't worry. I know that with the proper training the best traits of your race will show through, while the less desirable traits will disappear. He will be my child."

"Thank you. It is good to know that my son will be in the hands a good man, who just happens to be a powerful sorcerer."

"I am just repaying you for sparing my life and my planet." They reenter the house and find the young boy squirming in his mother's arms. He begins to thrash about and cry.

"What's wrong?" His father asks.

"He knows something's wrong."

"No that's not it." His father runs outside and looks up to the sky. "He's here!" He yells back into the house.

"What?" His wife runs outside with their child in her arms. "You sensed him?"

"Yeah. Take the boy and get going!" He yells back at the old man. The old man exits the house with the boy's stuff strapped to his shoulder.

"Very well." The old man takes the boy from his mother's arms. "Goodbye." They disappear in a flash of light.

"So it's over?" The woman asks.

"Yes."

"Goodbye."

"Goodbye." They embrace, as the ground below them is ripped apart in a massive explosion. The planet turns into a fiery ball and explodes.

16 years have passed since that day. The baby has now grown and matured into a strong young man. He is about 6', average build, and has black hair. His hair lies back for the most part; he wears the back in a ponytail that reaches to the top of his back. He lives with his adopted father Daniel, the old man from earlier. Daniel named the boy Kenshin when they first arrived. He also told him that he was adopted but would not disclose any information about who his parents were. Whenever Kenshin would ask about them Daniel would tell him nothing or try to change the subject. "How was school?" Daniel asks.

"Like always." Kenshin answers with a yawn. One thing Daniel has told Kenshin about his race was that they were not the most intelligent in the universe. But Kenshin's father was the exception. He was would have been a genius on any planet. Kenshin has inherited his intelligence. He does amazingly well in school, even though he does not study and sleeps most of the time. "I don't like school you know. I wish I could just stay here and keep studying magic."

"I know you do. But school is important." Daniel's home planet of Camelot is very much like Medieval Europe. The land is dotted with castles and forts. Most travel is done with the use of horses or magic. In this world Daniel is one of the supreme sorcerers. Thanks to the skills Kenshin has inherited from his parents he learned how to use magic very quickly and with surprising ease. But Kenshin also has many other powers from his parents. Powers that have not been fully developed as of yet. Camelot is ruled by a wise and powerful king. His main city is located near the equator of the planet. He lives in a mighty castle in the heart of the city. Surrounding him and protecting him are the greatest knights and sorcerers of the planet. Daniel was once among the sorcerers but retired to teach.

"I have no doubt that if I could just stay here and study magic I could surpass you one day."

"And I have no doubt that you have surpassed me anyway. Your parents were both amazing people. And being their son I have no doubt that you will become ever greater than they." Suddenly Kenshin stands up. "What is it Kenshin?" Daniel has learned from experience that when Kenshin does that it means that he senses something.

"Someone is coming. His magical powers are weak, but physically he is strong. So I believe he is a knight."

"Come." Daniel and Kenshin head outside. Sure enough approaching the house is a knight on horseback.

"Master Daniel!" He yells as he gets closer. "Master Daniel, I bring an urgent message from the king!" He says as he stops right in front of the two.

"From the king? Well what is it?" Daniel demands.

"I'm sorry sir, but the king instructed me to repeat his words to you and only you." The knight says motioning to Kenshin.

"But," Kenshin starts to say.

"Kenshin run along and play."

"But," Kenshin again starts. But he stops once he looks to his father's face. There is something about the way Daniel is staring at the knight that immediately tells Kenshin not to argue. "All right." He says as he runs off.

"Now what is it?" Daniel asks once Kenshin is gone.

"Master Daniel the king is dead."

Daniel is struck hard by those words. "Dead? How? When?" He asks.

"It has been a week since he died. The doctors and sorcerers did everything they could to save him, but it was to no avail. When he neared his death he sent me along with three others to bring you a message."

"Three others? But I see no one else."

"They are also dead. I was the only one to make it here alive?"

"What? I know it is a long journey, but no one should have died on the way."

"It was not the journey that killed them sir. It was...it was..." He hesitates.

"What? Who?"

"Argo! It was Argo. He sent mercenaries after us upon hearing where we were heading."

"Argo? My last student? I don't believe you. Why would Argo do such a thing?"

"The king believed that it was Argo who had cursed him to death. The king said that Argo wished for power. Three months ago the king sent his son away in secret. No one was sure of where he had gone until the king told the four of us. The king sent him to the north to hide from Argo. Now Argo has seized control of most of the planet. There are some who have refused to go along with him, but he has the backing of powerful sorcerers, summoners, and knights."

"That would be a problem." Daniel is begin to believe this knight. Daniel's attention is quickly drawn to something in the sky above him. "What's that?" Daniel asks.

The knight looks up. "I don't know. It looks like a rock or something like that." It does seem to be a large rock that is flying through the air towards them.

"A rock?" Daniel says. "No, I think it's something else."

"What is it?"

"Light Shield!" Daniel says. With a wave of his hand and those words a dome of light surrounds the two of them. The rock strikes the dome and bounces off. It lands about ten feet from them and begins to move around.

"That's no rock!" The knight says as he draws his sword.

"No. That's a Behemoth!" The rock like creature stands up. It does appear to be made of stone. Its hands are actually three large and very sharp claws. Its feet are also claws that appear to be just as sharp.

"A Behemoth?"

"Yes. A creature summoned from the ground itself. It is very powerful."

"But you can beat it, right? I mean you are the most powerful sorcerer on Camelot."

Elsewhere, Kenshin has run to their nearest neighbors. "I wonder if she's home." He thinks to himself.

"Kenshin!" A girl yells.

Kenshin jumps taken completely by surprise. "Iris, I told you not to do that!" He turns to and yells playfully as the white haired young girl.

"Sorry." She says with a laugh. Iris is about Kenshin's age (Kenshin isn't exactly sure about his age). They grew up together and were both told magic by Daniel. Iris' parents are farmers. Kenshin always thought of Iris as his sister. Lately, however, his feelings towards her have been changing. As of yet he is mostly unaware of the change. Iris has long since fell in love with him. "So what are you to?"

"The king sent a message to Daniel. For some reason I can't listen in so I just came over to see what you were up to."

"Nothing. I'm taking a break from working." They walk along Iris' wooden house as they talk. "I was actually thinking of coming over to your place."

"What for?"

"Oh I don't know," Iris blushes slightly. "Maybe to study a few spells."

"Iris, honey, who are you talking to?" A female voice calls out.

"Just Kenshin, mom." Iris yells back.

"Hi!" Kenshin yells.

"Nice to see you still remember the way over to our home Kenshin!" A male voice yells.

Kenshin laughs slightly. "Sorry about that! I'll visit more often!"

"That would make Iris happy." Iris' mother yells back.

"Mom!" Iris blushes.

"What did she mean by that?" Kenshin asks.

"Nothing, nothing at all."

"You know you're all red?"

"Am I? I must have got too much sun." Iris gives a half-hearted laugh. Kenshin's attention is suddenly draw back to his home. "What is it Kenshin?" Iris asks.

"A creature is nearing the house."

"A creature?"

Kenshin closes his eyes and concentrates. "Yeah. I think it's a...a..." Kenshin opens his eyes and makes a made dash back to his house.

"Kenshin!" Iris follows quickly.

"Behemoths are immune to most magic attacks." Daniel tells the knight.

"So I have to beat him?" The knight asks.

"Don't be foolish. Your sword could never harm a Behemoth. They come from the ground, and their skin is as hard as stone."

"So what do we do?"

"The best we can." Daniel says as he steps forward. His shield dissolves as he does so. The Behemoth prepares to attack. "It takes a great deal of magical power to summon a Behemoth." Daniel thinks. A wooden staff appears in his hand. "I wonder who summoned it." The Behemoth slashes at Daniel. Thankfully Daniel hops to the side and holds up his staff. "Purest light of heaven gather unto me and be my strength." Light gathers the length of the Daniel's staff as he chants the spell. "Blessed Light Blade!" Daniel calls out as he swings his staff at the Behemoth. The light that has gathered upon his staff jumps from it and heads for the Behemoth. The Behemoth slashes the light. But the light passes through the Behemoth's claw and chest. The Behemoth's body cracks and falls apart. It returns to the ground from whence it came.

"That was amazing!" The knight says still standing where he was at the start of the fight.

"Daniel!" Someone calls out.

Daniel turns to see Kenshin and Iris running towards them. They are still about 100 yards from Daniel. "It's all right!" Daniel calls back. "I took care of it!"

"No! There's more than one of them!" Kenshin yells back.

"What?"

"And there's a sorcerer nearby too!" Kenshin yells again.

"A sorcerer?" Daniel thinks as he looks around. He can see nothing. He turns back to Kenshin. "I think you're wrong this time my son. I don't," But Daniel cannot finish. Unknown to him, another Behemoth has just appeared behind him. It slowly arose from the ground. When its upper body was done forming it stabbed Daniel in the back with its left claw, piercing his heart.

"FATHER!!!!" Kenshin screams out. He falls to his knees and beats the ground with his fists, causing it to cave in slightly. The Behemoth removes its claw allowing Daniel to fall to the ground.

"Sensei?" Iris has stopped running. She is doubt founded. She never expected Daniel to be beaten. He was invincible in her eyes. "SENSEI!" She screams out.

Three more Behemoths arise from the ground. Also a sorcerer dressed in a black cloak appears. "So that is all the power the great Daniel had?" He laughs as he walks up to his motionless body. He gives it a sift kick. Daniel moves ever so slightly revealing that he is still alive. This surprises the sorcerer. "Still alive I see. Well I'll change that."

"Kenshin. We have to get out of here." Iris says. She tugs at Kenshin's arm.

Kenshin grabs some grass and rips it out of the ground. He slowly gets to his feet. "No." He says calmly. He begins to walk toward the sorcerer.

"Kenshin. Don't go. He killed Daniel." Iris says with tears streaming from her eyes. She runs in front of Kenshin and looks into his eyes. Then she sees two things that she has never seen before. Kenshin has always been an emotionless boy. He never got angry, hardly ever smiled, hardly ever laughed. But he is crying. Tears of sadness and anger escape his eyes. He slowly pushes Iris out of the way and continues on. "Kenshin?"

The sorcerer looks up front Daniel to see Kenshin approaching. "Well if it isn't Daniel's adopted son. What do you want boy?" He asks with a laugh.

"Don't call me boy." Kenshin says. Kenshin begins to glow slightly. It is a dim gray light, but it is most definitely there. There the air around him explodes as a gray aura forms around him. "This is your fault." Kenshin says.

"My fault?" The sorcerer asks. He's not exactly sure what Kenshin means by that.

"He only wanted to live in peace here."

"I don't care about that." The sorcerer turns to one of the Behemoths. "Go and kill him." The Behemoth nods. It turns to Kenshin. It stands there a second as Kenshin continues on at the same pace. Then it jumps forward with remarkable speed. In mere seconds it is on Kenshin. It slashes at him. The attack rips through the ground leaving claw marks. But it never hits Kenshin. As the attack moved closer and closer, Kenshin disappear in a blur. "Where is he?" The sorcerer looks around. He finally looks up in the air to see Kenshin hovering about 30 feet in the air. "How?"

This also amazes Iris. "He didn't have time to cast a levitation spell and fly up that high."

"Die!" Kenshin says as he disappears again. He reappears and kicks the Behemoth's head off. The rest of its body cracks and falls to piece, returning to the ground.

"No way!" The sorcerer says in shock. "He just destroyed a Behemoth with a single attack! And it wasn't even a magical attack."

Kenshin turns to the other two Behemoths. He holds out his hands. Two blue balls appear in his hands. "Return to where you came from." He says as the two beams shot out from the balls. The easily pass through the Behemoths' chests. They also return to the ground.

"What kind of magic was that?" The sorcerer demands of Kenshin.

"That wasn't magic."

"Not magic?" Kenshin holds his hands over his head and a golden light appear in them. "You won't beat me that easily!" The sorcerer yells. "Light Shield!" A white dome, identical to the one that Daniel used earlier, appears around him. Kenshin brings his hands down. The one large ball of light becomes two. They encircle his fists. "What are you doing?"

"Do you think I would risk doing anymore damage to Daniel?" Kenshin asks.

The sorcerer looks down and notices that Daniel is also in his dome. "Damn." Kenshin disappears, only to reappear seconds later in front of the shield. He strikes it with his left hand. The golden light around his fist encircles the shield and shatters it. "Shit!"

"Now you will pay!" Kenshin screams as he slams his right fist in the sorcerer's chest. He strikes the sorcerer's chest with such force that his fist cuts open the sorcerer's chest and enters into it. "Die!" Kenshin yells as a golden beam shouts out the back of the sorcerer. He dies immediately. Kenshin removes his fist from the lifeless body and lets it fall to the ground.

"Daniel?" Kenshin's attention is quickly drawn back to Daniel. Iris has him in his arms.

The gray aura disappears from Kenshin as he runs to Daniel. "Father!" Kenshin falls to his side. The knight also comes to his side. "Don't worry father. I'll cast a healing spell."

"Save your spell." Daniel coughs. Blood is flowing freely from his wound and his mouth. "I'm too far gone for any spell."

"Father." Kenshin says with tears in his eyes.

"Kenshin. Listen closely to me. In the bitterly cold, terribly high mountains to the north there is a sword with unbelievable power. I put it there for a student of mine. One who could use it to its full potentional. Go and retrieve that sword. Its power will be of great importance to you in the coming battle."

"Sensei, don't leave us." Iris says.

"Iris?" Daniel, apparently, was not aware Iris was there until just then. "The only woman I ever taught, my most beautiful student. Go will Kenshin. I know you would go even if I asked you, but I'll ask anyway."

"I understand."

"Sir Knight?"

"Yes?"

"Go with them. They will need your experience."

"Of course."

"Kenshin?"

"I'm here father."

"Father? It is so good to hear you call me that. But you know I am not your father."

"You are the only father I have known."

"In my room, under a loose board, there is something there for you." Daniel is begin to have trouble breathing and speaking.

"What? What's there?"

"Something...something from....your real fat....." He tails off. He doesn't finish speaking, but Kenshin knew what he was going to say.

"Father?" He shakes the now lifeless body. "Father!" He breaks down and weeps, his tears falling onto Daniel. Iris also begins to weep uncontrollably.
