COLOR GUARD POINTERS

1. Always have white toothpaste or white out to cover up the marks on the walls made by the
flag you WEREN'T spinning in the house
2. "One more time" always means at least 10 more times.
3. Never try to squeeze between two drummers--bass drummers, quads, snares . .
4. Your flag/rifle/sabre is always heavier then everyone elses
5. Drummers should stay drummers. Color Guard members should stay Color Guard members. The two are not interchangeble.
6. Color Guard is undoubtedly the sport of injuries
7. If you are on rifle, your skin will change colors (normally purple, blue, and yellow)
9. Color Guard is more of a sport than Cheerleading.
10. 1 tenth of a point can mean the difference in everything.
11. Everything was made for you to spin. You never know unless you try!
12. They may all look the same, but your flag is different, and you know it.
13. Never EVER tell a drummer you have electrical tape.
14. The drop you had was not your fault, it was the wind, the sun, the lighting, or any other creative excuse you can come up with!
15. If all else fails, fake an injury. Hopefully they will forget your drop.
16. They can hear the band, but they are watching the Color Guard- always remember this!
17. Running is NOT an enjoyable activity.
18. Sitting on the sidelines is to be avoided at all costs.
19. Every instructor has their own idea about what "correct technique" is- so listen to the one that is talking now.
20. Avoid being outdoors with a metel pole during a lightning storm.
21. Free time=sleep
22. Wasting time is an art form in itself.
23. There are endless possible positions in which to sleep on a bus- you will know them all
24. Clothing is an option.
25. Pain is a normal part of life.
26. A five minute break in guard time usually means 2.5 minutes real time.
27. Beware of anyone with a sabre, rifle, or flag in their hands if they are mad.
28. Never hand your instructors a piece of equipment and then get them pissed.
29. When in doubt, spin. Whats the worst that can happen?
30. The show MUST always go on
