Back in 1993, some friends and I wanted to attend the IMSA GTP / Nascar Busch series race weekend at Watkins Glen International racetrack in New York. We decided to sell raffle tickets to raise the money for admission, and needed a name for our organization, so the BRC was born. A meeting was held to plan the trip, and devise a weekend menu. Finally came that long awaited Thursday morning in June. Armed with enough food to feed an army, enough alcohol to float a navy, and an acre of tents and camping gear, five of seven members left for New York, to be followed the next day by the remaining two. The weekend consisted of much walking and bicycling around the grounds watching cars go fast all day, and relaxing around the campfire at night, eating and drinking to excess. Saturday night's highlight was the now infamous "Spider Cider". Our vacation was over all too soon, and on Sunday evening, seven tired but extremely happy men left for southwestern PA, and our own little corners of Blairsville. The BRC has grown to include several other members over the years, and although there hasn't been as many attending races lately, I can still be found several times a year, waving the banner proudly in turn 10 at the Glen, at Mid-Ohio, on the hill at Jennerstown Speedway, and at a few other tracks. There's been talk of a reunion of the original members, but so far it has been just wishful thinking. More will be revealed..... |
