Blood Gulch
Offense Strategy #1 - Your team of 4 players is playing another team of 4 players through system link and you are on Blood Gultch with all vehicles. You are playing Phantom CTF (where the flag is in one base at a time) and your team is on offense. I will refer to your team members as GT Steg, GT Bernie, GT Beast, and GT Lousy to which you can have your team play the roles of each. You send in a scout to see how their defense is set up. Your scout finds out that the other team has 4 shotgunners in their base all at each corner of the interior (it doesn't have to be this exact setup, but something similar to it). This type of defense calls for what the GT's call the "can opener". GT Steg and GT Bernie each get in a ghost and go back behind their base. Have GT Steg in the ghost get out and wait next to the back door. Meanwhile, have GT Lousy and GT Beast each get a rocket launcher and meet at the top of the enemy's base. You will see why we call it the "can opener". Have GT Lousy and GT Beast fire their rockets into the base and blow them all to high heaven. When they have all perished, have the GT Steg at the back door stroll in casually and take the flag and run back out to his ghost where his wingman (GT Bernie) awaits his escort. GT Lousy and GT Beast still at the enemy's base can simply provide cover fire as GT Steg books it back to the homestead to receive a score, and hear the other team drop the F bomb (which the lousy Elites have dropped plenty). Good Times. *Note: This also works well with Battle Creek
Defense Strategy #1 - Playing the same conditions as in the first situation (4v4 Blood Gulch), here is a rather effective defensive strategy that we GT's call "Heavy Jammage". Jam a warthog to each entrance of your lower base head first to prevent enemies from entering through the bottom. No matter how hard the other team tries, they will not be able to get into the driver seat of the warthog from outside, only the gunner seat, which does no good where it is jammed at. They must drop through the top and get inside first, where the flag is. This is where your strategy comes in and should be set up in the following manner: Have GT Steg and GT Bernie go behind the base in the back up by the rocks ready to snipe anybody coming toward the base and trying to drop in through the top, which they will have to in order to get the flag. Sniping is the key to the success of the strategy. For back up, have GT Lousy and GT Beast wait in the inside of the base with shotguns ready to blow any intruders that get by the snipers. Have GT Lousy and GT Beast not be conspicuous to RL's shooting down at them from the top, try to hide from them. It is essential for the snipers to eliminate the RL A.S.A.P. The only bad part about this strategy is that if somehow they bypass the two snipers and 2 shotgunners, they will have a perfect escape vehicle to book back to the homestead in...the jammed warthog. If it does get as bad as that, you're snipers are useless and the only slim chance of hope that you have is GT Lousy and GT Beast respawning and using the teleport to shoot down the flag bearing driver with pistols. There is a 90% chance that they will not get him because of cover fire from the other team, the fast and small moving warthog target, and if you do acutally kill the flag bearer, it will be right next to the enemy's base, who will have people respawning to recover the flag. So you're basically screwed if they get the flag into the warthog. Otherwise, this isn't a bad strategy at all, and it has prevailed many a glorious time. Good Times.
