Lynchburg Service Unit Minutes: November 1, 2001

The November 1, 2001 meeting was opened with a report by Claudia Chagnon, Recruitment/Membership Coordinator. Claudia announced that at least one Brownie leader and one Junior co-leader are still needed.

Jeanette Wilson, Service Unit Manager, reported that very few troops had turned in their registrations and stated that all troops that had not registered were to stop meeting until they had done so... Last year at this time 600 girl scouts were registered, and only 198 this year.

The Lynchburg Christmas parade will be held on December 9, 2001.

Patty Kane, Training Coordinator announced that Basic Leadership II has been changed from November 10th to November 26th at Timberlake United Methodist Church at 6:30 pm. Those interested in taking Basic Leadership III should plan to sign up for the January training date. Also, the Program Aide training has been rescheduled for February 16, 2002.

Patty also delivered a message from GSUSA - American Flag pins will be allowed on the Girl Scout uniform and should be placed on the right front above the council strip.

Special activities - the Self-Defense class scheduled for November 5 - 9 was canceled, the class for November 12 - 16 is still open.

The All Nite Bowling event ( Junior thru Senior Scouts) is scheduled for December 30th. $10 per person. November 15 is the deadline for registration, this event will be canceled if 50 people are not registered by November 15. REMINDER: NO SIBLINGS ALLOWED

Thinking Day at Fort Hill United Methodist Church - register ASAP.

Service Unit projects: Project Undercover - Please bring these items to the December Service Unit Meeting!! The birthday box project is an ongoing project and can be brought in all year.

The November 3rd Association II Fall Meeting will be held at Altavista Presbyterian - donations of DRY dog and cat food for the Humane Society are requested.

Marion Stump reported on the Zink the Zebra (diversity) program which is available for all Scouting levels. If you are interested in having Marion come to facilitate this program with your troop, please contact her for more information.

Jennifer Stump announced that the time for the November 17th Brownie Try-It Day had changed to 9:30am - 2:30pm. November 10th is the last day for sign-up

Salvation Army stockings are due at the December service unit meeting.

Connie Hensley reported that the GS summer camp would be one week this summer and the theme would be Mardi Gras. She has asked that you please save your canceled stamps (they will be used at camp this summer) - you may turn them in to Connie at the Service Unit meetings.

Also, Connie reported on the Camp Sacajawea Memorial Garden and introduced the Network Board - used to post items you may be in need of etc., Check it out at each Service Unit Meeting.

November 10, Camp Sacajawea clean up day.

The meeting was ended with an Investiture and Rededication ceremony for new and returning leaders. Also, Frances Carter was presented with a plaque for her previous service as co-service unit manager.

Refreshments and age level discussion followed.
