Lynchburg Service Unit Minutes: February 7, 2002

The meeting was opened with an announcement from John Joyner regarding Cookie Pick-Up. Cookies are to be picked up Wednesday, February 20th from 1 - 6. THE PLACE FOR PICK-UP HAS BEEN CHANGED! Pick up will now be held at the Lynchburg Public Warehouse (behind AMF bowling center) on Murray Place. Help is needed unloading and sorting cookies. Bring your hand-truck if you have one.

Girl Scout Sunday is March 10th. Girl Scout week continues until Saturday, March 16th.

A Basic Training III session for Bridging Leaders will be held April 25th at 6:30, contact Patty Kane for details. An interest sheet for First Aid training was also passed around at the meeting.

The Roanoke Express will have two Scout Nights: Friday, February 15th at 7:30 and Friday, March 29th at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $3.50 per girl. Call 540-343-4500 for more information.

Also, Scout Night at the LU Vines Center will be held Saturday, February 23rd. Call Mickey Guridy at 434-582-2409 if your Scout group plans to attend. They will announce each troop at the game. Tickets will be $1.00 for Scouts and $3.00 for family members.

Additional dates have been added for the horse clinics at Northwind Stables: March 20th, April 24th and May 11th. There is a minimum of 25 girls and a maximum of 30. Call Lynchburg Parks and Recreation to register.

An Extended Trip workshop will be held at Dayton United Methodist Church on March 2, 2002. Send registration information to Debbie Wertz.

11 troops (107 girls) have registered for Thinking Day to be held Saturday, February 16, 2002 at Fort Hill United Methodist Church.

The Lynchburg Girl Scout office has moved to 21 Timber Oak Court B-3, Lynchburg, VA 24502. The phone and fax have remained the same: 237-0733 ext. 11/ fax: 237-0501.

The Association II Meeting will be Saturday, March 16th at Bedford Presbyterian Church. Leaders are needed to attend.

The Annual Meeting will be April 19 - 20th and will be held at the Holiday Inn Select, Lynchburg. Registration forms are in the Skyline.

Wave the Flag (Brownie Girl Scout Try-It) and United We Stand (Junior Girl Scout Badge) are new and will be available to purchase March/April. However, you can begin work on them at any time.

Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Skate Party at FunQuest will be held March 26th from 6 pm-8pm. Call Garrie Childress (434-386-3262) for details.

If you are interested in going to Washington, DC, June 8th for the Girl Scouts 90th Anniversary Sing Along and would like to go by chartered bus, please contact Mary Beth Wade.

Contact Rebecca Duncan if your Brownies are interested in attending the Spring Camporee at Camp Sacajawea, May 3, 4 and 5th.

Connie Hensley announced that all girls registered by April 1st will receive a camp registration packet in the mail. This mailing will go out on April 5th. Registration will begin April 29th and end May 13th. This year, Day Camp will be held June 24 - 27 and Mini Camp will be held June 28 - 30. Any Cadettes and Seniors interested in working camp this year should contact Connie directly. Adults also are needed to help at camp.

Counselor Apprentice Training will be held March 22, 23 and 24th. Contact Connie Hensley for more information.

The end of the year dinner is scheduled for June 6th. Anyone interested in helping serve on the committee to organize the dinner should contact Jeanette Wilson.

The meeting was closed with a special “Hands Around the World Circle” ceremony.

Refreshments and Age-Level group discussions followed.
