During my fourth year at Frostburg, I studied abroad in Limerick, Irleland for the spring semester. I highly recommend the experience to anyone who gets the chance. This page holds pictures I took on my trip and some links to things that remind me of my adventures.
I took this picture in Galway, on a weekend trip. It's really easy to travel there, buses go everywhere and trains are relatively inexpensive with student cards. If you can't afford either of those, you can hitch - but not alone, of course. This guy was just standing on the street with his pipes, buskin' for money. A nice change of pace from a guitar or Casio keyboard, don't you think?
This is King John's Castle. It's in the middle of the city. It's in English town, on the other side of the river from where I lived and went to school. One of the coolest things about Ireland is castles are just on the side of the road. You can ride your bike along the coast, jump off and climb all around in a fort that is thousands and thousands of years old.
This little cottage is on the grounds of Bunratty castle, a castle near Limerick that's been restored. You can tour through and they hold madrigal dinners that are open to the public, you drink mead out of little cups and eat with your hands. The grounds have been turned into a little villiage, with cottages to walk through. In this cottage, the people slept on the side closest to you and the animals slept on the other!
Mary Immaculate College - is where i went to school while I was there. I finished the course work for my English degree and also took an American History class. That was interesting.
The Bottom Line - is the school newspaper of Frostburg State University, where I went to college, and this is the article they wrote about the study abroad experience.
Limerick, Ireland - is where I was living and going to school while I was living in Ireland. I thought it was a neat little city, although it's nickname in that country is "stab city" because it's got the highest muder rate in the country. I think the semester I was there there had been three murders there in the past year.
