Here are the Community Service Projects that our Troop participated in for the Scouting Year 2000 - 2001. We hope that they will give you some suggestions and that what we did will be continued with you. We made small cross-stitch Christmas ornaments. We donated these to the Mint Hill Historical Doctors Museum in Mint Hill, NC. This museum was holding a sale to collect monies to continue operating the museum. During Girl Scout week, the museum hosts a Girl Scout History Day with lots of exhibits on Girl Scout memorabilia.

We made two kits to give to an elderly shut-in that had just broken her hip. We filled the kits with personal items including stationary, puzzle books and reading materials. To see how we made the kits check out our Crafts page. We made it like our "sewing kit".

We made Snuggles for the Humane Society. We got the idea from the Snuggles Project website (click on the kitty to get there). We had been working on the Art to Wear badge and had lots of left over material to use for the project. After making the Snuggles we then went to our local Humane Society and took the Snuggles and dog/cat food and toys that we also collected. We had a great time there and were given a tour of the place. This also qualified as a requirement for the Pet Care badge.
Our local Humane Society is:
We gave money from our cookie profit to the Children's Miracle Network Organization. This organization helps children in hospitals that are battling diseases and injuries. Click here to visit that site. We purchased two photo albums and donated to a family who had their house to burn down. They were able to get some of their photos. One photo album was to put pictures from the past and the other photo album to fill with pictures from their future.

We made special kits for the Women's and Children's Battered Shelter. We collected wooden cigar boxes from local stores and then spray painted them to decorate. We filled the women's kits with toothpaste, toothbrush, hair brush, comb, mirror, deodorant, bar soap, lotion, washcloth, etc. The children's kits were filled with some of the same items along with small notepad and pencil, deck of cards, and a small stuffed animal.

We collected coloring books and crayons to donate to the Crayon Alliance. This is a non-profit organization started by Jeff Varner from the series Survivor 2. Jeff takes these coloring books and crayons to children in local burn centers. You can find out more about his organization by clicking on the coloring book.
We got to visit with Jeff when he came to Charlotte. To see these pictures click on the camera below. Check his website for details on how you can help with his project. To send donations or coloring books and crayons:
