VIBUTHI |
| Holy ash called vibhuti is prepared by burning dried cow dug cakes into a purified white ash. Vibhuti connotes purity. The saivites apply the vibhuti as tripundra, or three lines drown across the full width of the forehead. These three lines signify the burning away of pasam – the three bonds, anava (ego), karma (effects of past deeds) and maya (the world). The ash reminds us the temporary nature of the physical body and the urgency to strive for spiritual attainment closeness to God. |

PRADAKSINA |
| Before worship we talk three times around the Deity. This is called “Pradakshina”, which means “Right facing” and describes keeping the deity on our right by walking clockwise, never anti clockwise. Inwardly, this observation brings our mind out of worldly consciousness and directs it towards God. As we circle the deity, subtle, psychic bonds that naturally accumulate in and through the human aura, are broken. Having circumambulated the Lord, we are in a worshipful mood, free a material consciousness. By walking three times around body, mind and thought is cleansed and purified. |
