Girl Scouts of Mid-Continent Council Service Unit 649
MONTHLY ACTIVITY INFORMATION
Dear Parents:
Thank you for allowing your daughter(s) to participate in Girl Scouts. We would like to give you some basic information regarding the monthly activities that will be offered to your daughter's troop this year. Service Units are formed as a way to organize the many Girl Scout troops in a metropolitan area. In Lee's Summit there are (2), two Service Units. Your daughter's troop is affiliated with Service Unit #649 that includes troops from the following schools: Cedar Creek, Greenwood, Hawthorne Hill, Lee's Summit Community Christian, Lee's Summit Elementary, Lee's Summit High School, Lone Jack, Pleasant Lea Elementary and Middle Schools, Summit Lakes Middle School, Trailridge, Westview, and Woodland. The troops are organized and affiliated by the school that your leader is with. It is not necessary for your daughter to attend one of these schools; it is for organization purposes only. The other Lee's Summit schools are affiliated with a different Service Unit and have planned activities separate from these. So if you hear about your friend's daughter who is going bowling or on a hay ride that you hadn't heard about - most likely she is in a different Service Unit.
Leaders and Volunteers from the Service Units organize monthly activities for the girls and their families. These activities are always optional but encouraged as the girls usually come away with long lasting memories of their time in Girl Scouts. In the past, parents have felt like they have not been given enough notice to plan for these events - either for budgeting or for scheduling. We are providing this list so that you can plan and decide and choose the events your daughter can participate in. All of the events include lots of FUN!
DATE OF EVENT_____EVENT____________________COST (APROX)
October 2 Paradise Park $ 6 - $8 per family member
November 13 Bowling $ 8.50 per girl
December 4 Yule Log Hunt $7.50 per girl
January Father/Daughter Dance Aprox. $10 -12 per couple
February Thinking Day To be announced (usually under $10)
March Girl Scout Skating Aprox. $2 -$3 per person
April Mother/Daughter Event Aprox. $20 per couple
The deadlines for event registration are usually at least one month in advance. The dates and prices are subject to change and are only offered as a budget and planning tool and it is important to note the date that the money is due to your leader for these events. Please contact your troop leader if you have not received information on these events. You should be given an event flyer prior to the deadline. The event planners are not allowed to take late registrations. These events always sponsor a service project in which girls will need to bring canned food, paper products, etc. for shelters and community programs. Please make sure you get these donations to your leader prior to the event or bring them to the event. Thank you again for allowing your daughter to participate in Girl Scouts.
Sincerely,
Girl Scout Service Unit #649
