| SISTER TROOPS Sister Troops are troops which do things together occasionally. A troop might invite a sister troop to attend a troop meeting for a special activity. Sister troops might attend large events together. Sister troops might create their own events together. Sister troops are sometimes troops of the same program level. A Brownie troop can be a sister troop to another Brownie troop, perhaps in the same school or Service Unit. Sister troops are sometimes troops of different program levels. A Junior troop can be a sister troop with a Cadette troop or a Brownie troop. Why would my troop want to have a sister troop? The girls and adults benefit beyond what one troop experience can offer when sister troop relationships are created. These benefits include opportunities to practice leadership skills, to share new skills with others, to learn about what Girl Scouts can do when they get older, to create friendships beyond the familiar nucleus of the individual troop setting, and to create networking opportunities for adults. Sister troops relationships are especially helpful to troops who are briding to the next level in Girl Scouts. Many of the bridging activities require the girls to spend time with other girls in Girl Scouts. To learn more about Briding to the Next Level in Girl Scouting, consult the Leader or Girl Handbook for your program level. How do I find a sister troop? Your monthly Service Unit meetings are the most convenient opportunity to find a sister troop. If networking time is offered at your Service Unit's meetings, you can use the time to meet other leaders and share interests. |
