Juliette Low World Friendship Fund Ideas

Half the fun of giving lies in the special and symbolic ways in which contributions are made in troops and councils.  Gifts should be given with joy and understanding of the messages they carry to other girls around the world.
Show these Girl Scout movies (borrow them from the Council Office) with a donor box for voluntary contributions to the JLWFF by the door.
"The Golden Eaglet"
"A World of Friendship"
Tasting Sampler Sell portions or "tastes" of goodies made by girls with recipes from Around the World.  Demonstrations of dances, songs, and customs of various countries would provide an appropriate accompaniment.
Will Power Pow Wow
Everyone comes with money saved by "resisting temptation" on candy, sweets, movies, etc.
Metric Money
Everyone comes and donates a coin (penny, nickel, dime, quarter)for one of the following:
    every centimeter of your height
    every kilogram of your weith
    every Celsius degree of temperature
every kilometer between your school                 and your home
Donation Activities
This page gives you a set of choices to determine how much change each scout donates to the JLWWF.  You could copy them and cut them into "straws" for each scout to choose.
Green Mouse Auction
Similar to a "white elephant" sale
Friendship Ring
The Canadian Girl Guides drop a coin in a box every time they phone a friend.  This adds up as troops put their coins together for their world friendship fund.
Bob a Job
An Australian guarter is called a bob.  Guides there earn money for their world friendship by doing odd jobs such as:
    wash dogs, cars, windows
collect wire hangers for dry cleaners
    pick fruits, vegetables
Recycling Bee
Collect, repair, and sell jewelry, toys, children's clothing (yard sales).
Wide Game
Hike in buddies or patrols through your neighborhood looking for evidences of other countries or cultures:  signs, names, statues, etc.  Then add a coin to the Fund for every item listed.  The winners may represent the troop at the council's Juliette Low World Friendship ingathering.
Representatives from all troops bring their JLWFF contributions to a special presentation or ceremony.  It is often held in February, which is International month, or in conjunction with Girl Scout Week activities in March.
Ingatherings
Hint:  Transfer coins into bills before sending in to the Council.  For more information on JLWFF, check out www.girlscouts.org and then search on "thinking day".
