The Gilbert and Sullivan Singers
The Gilbert and Sullivan Singers were formed in 1994 to provide informal entertainment to various groups and organizations in the city of Fredericton. Among the activities in which the group has engaged are a St. Valentine's Day revue for the Fredericton Opimium Society, and a concert of popular Irish music for St. Patrick's Day at several local seniors homes. In 1998, the cast of South of the Border reunited to perform selections of music with a Latin American flavour for several seniors homes. Most recently, the G&S Singers were active in the spring of 2000 and 2001 when they again performed a selection of popular songs for various seniors homes in the Fredericton area.
The Savoyard Singers
Formed in 1992, the Savoyard Singers performed at various social functions and fundraisers. The members of the group past and present are: Alexis Ervin, Darrel Brewer, Kim Hill, Dale Carle, Tony Marshall, Gail Gould, Anne Wagner, Sue Doak, Burt Green, Jim Burns and Ruth Norton, with able accompaniment by Doris Nicholson on the piano. Among the activities in which the Savoyard Singers have participated are: appearances at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery for Valentine's Day concerts, concerts to raise money for the Chalmers Hospital Foundation, appearances at the RCR Base Commander's Concert, and two guest spots in the Fredericton 150 Revue, staged at the Playhouse, March 30th and 31st, 1998.
The Dinner Theatres
In the spring of 2000 the Gilbert and Sullivan Society was invited to revive their popular fall cabaret from 1999 Blazing Guns at Roaring Gulch for one more performance as a dinner theatre. The performance was staged at the St. Francis of Assisi Church Hall in Lincoln New Brunswick. Because the show was well received, the Society was invited to perform their fall 2000 cabaret The Mystery at Mayhem Manor for two performances as a dinner theatre in February 2001, also at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Since then the Society has regularly performed at this venue with such productions as Song of the Islands, The Comforts of Home, Rock Around the Clock, Murder at Midnight and The Gilbert and Ed Sullivan Really Big Shoo.
