Google has launched its latest salvo against rivals such as Yahoo and Microsoft, unveiling a free online calendar service.

Firefox, the free, open-source browser from Mozilla, quietly gained enough users in March to finally grab 10 per cent of the web browser market.

  • Firefox was used by 10.05% of web surfers.
  • 84.7% of users are still hanging on to various versions of Microsofts IE.
  • Apples Safari browser took third place with 3.19 per cent of the market.
  • Netscape was in 4th place with 1.05% of the market
  • Opera with 0.54% and Mozilla with 0.34% are on the verge of extinction.

    Alcatel SA and Lucent Technologies Inc. have announced today a merger between the two telecommunications equipment makers in which France based Alcatel will purchase US based Lucent in order to form a major new competitor to telecommunications industry giant Cisco Systems Inc.
