GSN shut down after giving themselves early
lead |
(AP) - In the midst of a team record losing streak heading into their
showdown with rival South Pymatuning, GSN was simply searching inside to
find the motivation to play. On this evening, however, "The Kids"
would come out and play inspired ball—seeing their bats
come alive for the first two innings before their chances of winning the
game faded after a 5th inning spurt by their opponents.
A five run inning in the second would push Gentle Shepherd into the
lead momentarily—highlighted by a Gary Bonanno inside-the-park homerun.
"The Kids" would only put four runners on base over the final five innings,
however, with the damage being done in a five run fifth that put a rather
close 9-7 ballgame out of reach at 14-7. Like has been the story all
season long, South Pymatuning had succeeded in turning a 7-6 GSN advantage
into a 15-7 victory after Gentle Shepherd's offense went cold.
Rich Thompson would go the distance on the mound for GSN in a game
that was delayed because of rain. Shawn Shanor and Gary Bonanno would
each score twice for the offense. |
