Gentle Shepherd lets early lead and game slip away against Neshannock
(AP) - Heading into the second game of their twin-bill against Neshannock, GSN looked to push their record to 2-0 for the first time in team history. Though the final outcome was not what they had wished for, early on it appeared as if their hopes would be granted.
Again Gentle Shepherd came out firing on all cylinders—putting three runs on the board in the first inning.  In a rare display of power, Rick Martell's third inning double to deep left knocked in two more—scoring Gary Bonanno and Rich Thompson.  GSN would push their lead to 6-1 after batting in the fourth, but things would go sour from there.
Five consecutive walks to start the bottom of the fourth helped bring Neshannock within a run at 6-5.  By the end of the fifth, "The Kids" found themselves trailing 8-6.  GSN would answer momentarily in their half of the sixth, however, by plating Jeremiah Thompson and Bill Steiner to knot the game at eight.  Two GSN errors in the field enabled Neshannock to tally four runs in the bottom of the sixth—which proved to be too much for Gentle Shepherd to overcome.  The resulting 12-8 loss dropped "The Kids"—who will face First Assembly and Good Shepherd next week—to 1-1 on the year.
