WORLD POKER TOUR'S
HOLLYWOOD HOME GAME
EPISODE 1
Into a Hollywood sound stage comes six celebrities,
all amateur poker players in their own right. But, tonight, they
play like the pros of the World Poker Tour, fighting for up to $10,000
for their charities and a $25,000 seat at the WPT Championship later
this year.
Each celeb will start with $250,000 worth of chips
and play No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em. The
one who grabs all $1,500,000 will win the $10G for his or her charity and
the buy-in for the Championship. Unlike the WPT itself and more
like a REAL Hollywood "home game", the celebrity with the
Dealer Button will ACTUALLY deal the cards out...right after female
poker player and WPT Ladies' Night runner-up Evelyn Ng shuffles
them. Also, each player gets a "lifeline" of sorts to
be used only once during a game to get help from two poker experts
sitting in the Players' Lounge. The cornucopia of Hollywood
high-brass for this game (and their charities) are:
Jack Black
(United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation)
One-half of the band "Tenacious D" and actor in
"Shallow Hal" and "School of Rock".
Drew Carey
(Cleveland Public Library)
Star of long-running Drew Carey Show and not-so-long-running Whose
Line Is It Anyway?
Aisha Tyler
(Childhelp USA)
Comedienne, host of The 5th Wheel and Talk Soup alumni
Mimi Rogers
(Earth Communications Office)
Recurring performer on X-Files and Dr. Maureen Robinson
in the film "Lost In Space" (also a CPS alumni)
Fred Savage
(Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles)
Best known for The Wonder Years, also "Number Three (The Mole)"
in "Austin Powers in Goldmember".
Steve Harris
(Ronald McDonald House in Memphis)
Eugene Young on The Practice and Sonny Liston in the TV movie "King
of the World".
And tonight's "lifeline"
pro players are:
Daniel Negreanu & Jennifer Harman
The chips are on the table, Evelyn is ready to
shuffle,
the "Hole Cams" are in working order, Mike Sexton and "home game
expert" Vince Van Patton
are ready for the call...and tournament director Matt Savage (no relation to
Fred) says it's time to
SHUFFLE UP AND DEAL!
Initial ante is $1000 and blinds (automatic bets
made by the two to the left of the Dealer Button) are $3000
(SB) and $6000 (BB). The Dealer Button (D) starts on Aisha, who actually
DEALS the cards.

In
No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em, you can bet all your chips at any
time. This is called "going all-in". The
downside to this is that if you lose the hand, you're out of the
tournament. Aisha waits for Evelyn to count all of Jack's
chips before calling. To have a strong hand but delay
betting big in order to lull your opponent into a false sense of
security is called "slow rolling". |
Aisha
uses her "lifeline" card to call out Daniel Negreanu & Jennifer Harman.
Upon looking at her hand and the cards on the table (they are
watching the tournament in the Players' Lounge but have not seen
any hole cards), Daniel does a double take, not believing that
they called them out for such a cinch bet. He tells Aisha,
"Say bye-bye to Jack! Go call him and put all your
money in!" Jennifer concurs, so Aisha does. |

Jack
comes out before Fred calls for help, saying he's convalescing
in the "losers' pit" with his cap and t-shirt as a consolation
prize. |
Fred
uses HIS lifeline now. David says that, unless Aisha has
a higher pair "wired", it would behoove Fred to at
least call this raise. "If she has a pair of
6s," he says, "you're 50-50." Fred takes
the advice and goes all-in. Aisha's only a 57% favorite. |
FLOP:
7♠
5♠ 4♠ |
Things
are getting interesting. Both flopped a flush draw, but
Aisha has an "open-ended straight flush draw".
Any 3 or 8 would give her a straight, any spade a flush...but
a 3♠
or an 8♠
would give her a straight flush, the best possible hand in
poker without wild cards. Any other spade, BTW, would
give Fred a BETTER flush than Aisha. |
