For 39 days, 16 castaways were stranded
in Asia. Every 3 days on the island became a 1-hour
show. The first contestant
eliminated pockets $2500. Each successive eliminated contestant
wins more money, through the next-to-last Survivor, who receives
$100,000. The final Survivor wins a million dollars!

DAY 4: HARD RAIN
Believing they were going to bring their lit torches back from Tribal
Council last night, Saboga - according to Rupert - decided to leave a
pot of contaminated well water by a fire pit ready to boil. They
SHOULD have left it empty to collect rain water. Now they're
dehydrated and stuck in the rain with no chance of even TRYING to make
fire. They manage to ring some of the rain out of their soaked buffs
for minimal hydration but, according to other reports, they're the only
ones without clean water collectors.
Jerri had a hard night, unable to get ANY sleep. Rudy slept like a
log...and was refreshed enough to talk about the rainy season in
Vietnam. He's also the only one fairly hydrated because he's the only
one with the guts to DRINK that filthy well water. He even says he
drank water in Vietnam from a reservoir that had dead bodies floating
in it! The GOOD news is that, having gone four days without food, the
tribe can't throw up anything.
REWARD CHALLENGE: STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
Upon checking Tree-Mail, we find a rather large treasure chest with
three padlocks on it, with specific instructions to keep it dry. Ah,
so it's similar to the "buried treasure" deal from LAST season. Let's
just hope the food inside isn't moldy by the time the locks are opened.
We then head to Challenge Beach for our first Reward Challenge. Uncle
Jeff tells us that the challenge involves building a "stairway to the
stars"...or to the top of a platform, anyway. We are to swim out with
five tribe members to retrieve the furthest log for the first step.
Then one member sits out and the four others get the next one. This
continues until the final member brings the last log in. The first
team to build the stairway and get all five members up to the platform
wins the reward.
And the incentive for all this? Blankets to keep us warm. And we were
hoping it would be those waterproof matches...thanks bunches, Uncle
Jeff. :P Anyway, Chapera sits out "Big Tom" while Mogo Mogo sits out
Jenna M. This means that Little Richard must rear its ugly head at
us again!
Jeff yells, "Go," and we go...though it's grueling to get out to the
first log. Chapera gets to theirs first, but we're close behind and in
a dead heat with Mogo Mogo. But that's when Jeff informs us from the
beach that we all have to have the log to place on the stairway.
Rudy...those 75 years are catching up to him and, thusly, we lag
behind. Jenna L. helps motivate Rudy to the shore and, by some
miracle, all three tribes place their first log at just about the same
time.
We sit out Rudy while the others bench Shii Ann and Alicia. Out to the
second log we go, with Jeff yelling, "Keep moving! You can rest
tonight!" (Fat talk from someone who rests in air conditioning and eats
every night!) Jerri literally backstrokes INTO the log and unhooks it.
We're in a slight lead heading back to shore with Mogo Mogo in second
and Chapera lagging behind. We sit Jenna L. for the next leg and,
though the test is getting tiresome, we manage to maintain our slight
lead over Mogo Mogo. Chapera lags behind, so it's become a two-tribe
race.
We get the log in place just as Mogo Mogo, led by "Little Richard",
climbs out. Jerri sits out and Rupert and Ethan head out for the
fourth log. The two well-conditioned guys have no trouble extending
their lead, placing the fourth log in place, and letting Ethan take the
last leg. Though Richard does his best to close the gap with his
distracting crotch, Ethan is unfazed. He brings the log back, the
tribe puts it in place...and we all climb the stairway to the reward!
Mogo Mogo takes second with Chapera a distant third! Yippee! We get
BLANKETS! Considering we STILL have no fire, those are going to come
in handy.
But hold the phone here! Uncle Jeff has a proposition to make. He
tells us that the treasure chests are filled with rice. But what's
rice if you can't boil it? Jeff says we can trade the blankets for a
clue to the whereabouts of the first key, along WITH flint and a
cooking pot. Well, hell, this is what we wanted LAST NIGHT! Ah,...but
if WE get the pot with the directions, so do the OTHER two tribes.
Would we rather starve and stay warm...or be magnanimous and give
EVERYBODY a chance to get hydrated?
Well, what can I say except Saboga is a bunch of softies at heart? We
accept the trade. Jeff takes back the blankets and gives each tribe
the pot and flint. And that means...EVERYONE'S GETTING FIRE! WOOHOO!
LATER DAY 4: IN LIKE FLINT
Needless to say, we waste zero-point-nada time getting a fire going.
Rupert and Jerri are put in charge and they are VERY excited. It takes
some time (and nearly chars Rupert's fingertips) and causes a bit of
fireworks from the dry wood, but we get fire eventually.
Meanwhile, Ethan and Jenna L. go get the water...and Ethan is VERY
nervous, being the only previous winner left on the tribe. Jenna L.
noticed this at the challenge; everyone congratulated him for taking
the anchor leg and he was all "whatever" about it. She tells Ethan
that maybe they WILL keep him around for a while...and Ethan thinks,
"Gee, thanks a bundle." I'm sure that, when Jenna L.'s bangs were
singed while she blew on the fire, Ethan was smiling wickedly on the
inside.
DAY 5: MY LEFT FOOT
Though everyone is relatively warm and properly hydrated, Rudy has a
problem with his foot. It's hard for him to walk around without a
limp, but he gets the feeling it'll be better after about a week. He
most definitely can't run. That MAY be a problem with the challenge
today.
IMMUNITY CHALLENGE: RAISE THE TITANIC
The Immunity Idol is put back together and placed back up for grabs for
two tribes. The challenge, again, starts off out at a floating
platform at sea. At the signal, we are to dive down and, one by one,
untie and remove 14 heavy boxes weighing about a ton in total from a
sunken boat. Once the boxes are off, the boat will float to the
surface. It is then to be bailed out and all five tribe members
(Alicia and Shii Ann sit out for their tribes) placed inside it. First
two teams to paddle to shore and carry the boat across the finish line
gets at least four more days of starving.
We swim out, the rain starts to pour, Hatch strips yet again, and the
game is on! Once everyone has dove down and has a hand on the pontoon,
Rupert and Ethan dive down (with masks provided to them) and start to
pull out the knots while the other teams do the same. Chapera,
however, manages to get a few boxes out before Big Tom surfaces. Jenna
L. surfaces and coughs up sea water...which probably signifies HER
elimination from surfacing the boat. But Rupert and Ethan more than
pick up the slack...until the very last box. It's a toughie, but we
manage to get it out enough so that the boat tips and rises to the
surface.
We enjoy a lead we didn't have in the LAST Immunity Challenge, but we
boogie to upright it and drag it to the platform for bailing.
Meanwhile, the other two tribes manage to tip THEIR weights out of
their boats and even the score. We have a tough time getting the water
out of our boat, especially with Rudy having to lie on his stomach to
take pressure off his aching leg. But we still have a lead...that is
until Chapera drag their boat OUT of the water and onto the platform!
Well,...THAT was a stroke of genius WE could've used. And, of course,
Mogo Mogo copies this action.
Chapera flips their boat with barely any water in it at all...and we
keep bailing. Mogo Mogo manages to get THEIR boat flipped...and we're
STILL bailing! But Mogo Mogo goofs and their boat half-fills again.
Chapera is all aboard and paddling for shore and Mogo Mogo goes for the
buckets. Meanwhile, Ethan loses his bucket and has to retrieve it.
Mogo Mogo decides to bail while they sail, leaving us in their wake.
We FINALLY get into the boat and paddle our hardest to catch up (once
we drag Jerri out of the sea). Ethan then dives to get a PADDLE he's
left behind. We go from first to worst as Ethan's re-boarding floods
the boat again.
We finally decide that we satisfied the bailing requirements of the
challenge and will just kick the boat to shore. Mogo Mogo is starting
to sink a bit as well so there may still be a chance. Chapera is
having a field day while Mogo Mogo paddles with their boat about a foot
under and sinking fast. Chapera wins with little problem...and Mogo
Mogo touches the beach first. They flip the boat over and cross the
finish line to take second place...and to send our poor bailing butts
to Tribal Council...again!
DAY 6: SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
To say that the tribe is still stunned at the recent turn of
events...well, it's a gross understatement. They know they played
stronger...but the other tribes played SMARTER. They particularly
blame Jerri and Ethan for capsizing the boat en route back. Rupert and
Jenna L. want to bash Ethan in the head with a rather large and heavy
object. Ethan knows he's a dead man, so he tries some "spear fishing"
with a makeshift wooden spear. According to HIM it's the lame RUDY
that has to go for the tribe to survive.
The J-Alliance seems to think so as well and approach Rupert about it.
Rupert really doesn't want to break his R-Alliance with the old Navy
officer...he refuses to right Rudy's name.
To make matters worse for Ethan, he comes up empty in the fish hunt.
Then Rupert goes in...and nabs a fish in record time! It's not much to
divide amid five people...but it proves that Ethan is as good as dead.
TRIBAL COUNCIL: DIE HARD 2
Uncle Jeff greets us in the tree house...which might as well have a
sign on the door saying "SABOGA TRIBE MEMBERS ONLY". Rupert tells Jeff
that fire changed their life on the island for the better. Ethan
explains how they goofed in the Immunity Challenge. Jerri says it'll
be tough to bounce back after being knocked down to four players. Rudy
says that the true part of the game isn't putting up with the
elements...but putting up with the PEOPLE.
Rupert says he feels the odd man out, but he has a saving grace in that
he hasn't lost his fish-catching abilities in the few months since
Pearl Islands. Ethan was psyched about getting to eat...but he's
nervous about tonight's vote.
So how do they vote tonight? Jenna L. says that past experience STILL
is relevant; she's not going to give those who already HAVE a million a
shot at another.
With that in mind, it's time to vote. Jerri is first, followed by
Rudy, Ethan ("Rudy, it's an honor to be on your team, but this is
strictly strategical"), Jenna L. and, finally, Rupert ("Ethan, you're
tough, but Rudy and I made a pact and I am NOT voting for Rudy").
Uncle Jeff tallies the votes and brings the canister in front of us
again. The first vote is for Rudy, the next two for Ethan and the
fourth for Rudy. The final vote...is for Rudy. Ethan's relieved, the
R-Alliance is broken and Rudy gets some rest for his weary ankle.
Saboga's down to four as they drag their torches back home. Can they
stop the bleeding before they disappear completely?!
