Remember when we came in second in the challenge for last week, and we thought that we were going to get fire from the happy producers? Wrong. We still have to make the fire for ourselves - and the rainstorm that came down wasn't going to help...but it did help for another purpose. 'We were sitting there for a few minutes - when we realized that an abundance of clean water was coming down from the sky.' says Lex, as they use their hands and foliage to drink the new supply - and they also left the pot out to catch the rainwater.

Meanwhile, Richard decides to do what Richard likes to do the best - get naked. He does so, and the rest of the tribe gets to see the Richard Hatch nudie show, with him waltzing to the beach and the ocean to swim. He tells the group that by wandering around, he is keeping warm, unlike everyone else, who are sitting and shivering under a tree. And you know what? He's right.

Most of the tribe doesn't mind his antics - and have gotten used to the nude Hatch. 'This is getting a little spooky...We have an overweight gay naked man walking around, and it's not bothering us in the least.' says Colby.

After the storm, we are greeted with a box that has 3 locks on it. Jenna wonders if there's an animal in the box - and we all see why no one is really seeing Jenna as a threat in the brains department.

We see, however, that people are already scheming, as we go to the Reward challenge and see that Tina is gone. Richard knows what that means - he thought that Rudy would be toast, and he knows that all of the winners are in trouble. His trousers are in trouble too, as he tkes them off before attempting the Reward Challenge - which is to run out and grab a one of 5 tethered logs. The objective is to use the logs to make a set of stairs to get up a platform. The first team to do this will get a set of blankets to keep warm.

Despite being undermanned, it is Saboga that wins the contest - and they have a choice - they can keep the blankets, or trade them for the first key to the lock on the chest, a pot, some flint, and a clue to get the first key for the box, whicxh contains rice, as well as other goodies. The catch is that if they take it, then all 3 tribes will have it as well. Well, this is a no-brainer, of course, you takwe the flint and make fire. Saboga takes it, and we all have flint.

Well, that was silly. The better play would be to offer the first lock - and then offer the blankets on top of it - BUT by doing that, you give the other 2 trobes fire as well. That's how I'd create the challenge.

We come back, and Richard is still wondering about the disappearance of Tina. 'Big targets on the winner's backs...except me.....big target on me too....we'll see....' We'll see, indeed...we still can't get fire and another storm is about t o hit. Lex wants to postpone it, but Kathy wants to keep the fire going. Htye don't get it and they are freezing. Kathy blames the 'lean boys' (Colby and Lex) for not getting it going, and there seems to be a break betweem Kathy and Lex. Perhaps this is the break that Richard is looking for?

The next morning, we do wind up getting fire, and we also use the clue to locate the first key. Kathy is getting excited, but Richard takes this all with a grain of salt. 'Anybody looking at today would think of today as huge, being that we got water and fire and a key to the trunk. That's all extraneous crap to me, that's not Survivor. The game's all the interpersonal stuff.' This is why I think Hatch is the best player - and even though his days are probably only going to last until the first Tribal Council, I hope he sticks around for awhile.

He could stick around longer if we dont come in last on the second tribal mission. THis one comes from Survivor-Thailand, as the tribe, who starts ona floating platform, has to dive down and untether boxes that are on a boat. ONce the boat is light enough to float to the surface, the team then has to take it and row the boat ashore and carry it to the finish line. The first 2 teams to do this keep all of their players intact.

We start off very badly and we are the trailing team - but then Richard comes up with the game-saving idea. once the boat comes up, we overturn it, which gets rid of the water and moves us up to second - over Saboga, who was i nfirst but wind up trailing. While we are swimming over, the boat starts to sink, but we get it floating long enough to bring it to shore and avoid the axe again.

Well, the more days that we stick around, the more air time Richard Hatch gets, which is good enough for me. Can we do this another 17 times? I dboubt it, but we'll see if Mr. Hatch is as good as he says that he is.
