THE RECAPS

EPISODE 1
Welcome to the third season of The Amazing Race! Once again, I am your tour guide, who will try to steer you through this silliness as 12 teams race around for a million dollars. The rules are easy - you follow clues to a checkpoint. Teams get choices through the way, and each team can use one (and ONLY one) short cut called a Fast Forward throughout the game, The last place team is eliminated, and gets to be the brunt of my jokes throughout the article.

So here are the teams that will either be rich or will look really stupid trying to be rich (or a combination of both) -

Heather and Eve - roommates and graduates of Harvard Law School 'We've always been underestimated - we've always been seen as ditzes.'

Michael and Kathy - Internet relationship - this is the first time that they are spending time together. 'By day 7, we may be clawing each others eyes out'

Kenneth and Andrew, from Kentucky - Dad is a strict Southern Baptist. Son is a gay male cheerleader. 'We're either going to come back and be best friends, or we're going to come back and I'm going to file a restraining order.'

Flo and Zack - friends from Vassar College - now they're both single.

Derek and Drew - Identical twins and models, from California. 'We'll be cutthroat with a smile'

Gina and Sylvia - Soccer moms from South Carolina  'Fear the soccer mom'

Tramel and Talicia, an African American brother and Sister from Gary Indiana 'When the rubber hits the road, I can really go'

Aaron and Arianne - best friends since early childhood. 'We think outside the box'

Teri and Ian - Married parents (for 22 years) from Florida 'We have expereince and knowledge, and its working in our favor, not against us'

Andre and Damon - Cop and Fireman/African American friends who met in Desert Storm. 'A mission like this - this is right up our alley'

Ken and Gerard - Brothers - Conservative Republican Straight man with kids Vs. Liberal Democrat Gay guy with no kids. Oh watch the hilarity ensue.

John Vito and Jill - Recently dating from Staten Island Jill lost her brother on 9/11, 'So we're actually a team of three - John Vito, myself, and my brother'

My top three picks - Aaron and Arianne, Andre and Damon, and John Vito and Jill.  Record so far in predicting the top three - 3 out of 6 (I got 2 out of 3 the first season, only one out of three the second season).

We start on a tiny island in the everglades - hey gang, this ain't Survivor.  The first clue is on top of their luggage, which has been nicely placed down in front of them.

And away we go!

The first clue - get yourself to the Angel of Independence in Mexico City.  There are only three flights that you can get on.  Everyone is struggling to get to the airport - and there is a convoy of cars.  Derek and Drew pull the first error - and go right past the exit for the airplane.

The first flight has room for 7 teams. Heather and Eve, John Vito and Jill are the first two to get on. Andre and Damon slide under the ropes - and past everyone - to get in third, followed by Aaron and Adrienne. Michael and Kathy are the fifth team, Flo and Zach are sixth, and Dennis and Andrew are the last team to make the first flight.

Heather and Eve, meanwhile, while waiting for their flight, start panhandling for money - and make over $100 dollars. While they are doing that, the other 5 teams - Tramel and Alicia, Ken and Gerard, Gina and Sylvia, Teri and Ian, and the models (yes, they finally found the plane) are on the loser flight, which leaves 50 minutes after the first flight.

Now that the teams are in Mexico City, they have to get to the Angel of Independence. Zack tries to barter with the taxi driver - while Flo is yelling at him for being unethical - for that, she gets to be called high maintenance by Zack.

Once they get to the Angel of independence, they need to find man named Pablo, and they only get a picture of him. Teams are finding out that the building behind him is the Cathedral, which is located downtown. at Zocalo Square.  Meanwhile, the second plane has gotten in, and the soccer moms aren't even out of the airport while everyone else is getting to the cathedral.

Aaron and Arianne find Pablo first - and have to go to the Mexi-Mini Charters at the Hotel de Cortes to sign up for a bus for tomorrow. There are 3 buses - four teams to a bus, and of course, first come, first served.  Aaron and Arianne get there first, followed by Flo and Zack and John Vito  and Jill. Michael and Kathy take the last spot on the first bus. Heather and Eve, Dennis and Andrew, Andre and Damon and Teri and Ian go to bus #2. That leads Tramel and Alicia, Derek and Drew, Ken and Gerard, and Gina and Sylvia on the loser bus.

Speaking of losers, the twins may have pulled the dumb-ass move of the episode early. They left all of their stuff on a cab, which sped off while they were looking for Pedro and didn't wait for them to come back. Of course, all of their stuff is in their travel bags. OOPS.  They do find the taxi - but it puts them in dead last.

All of the teams get to spend a nice night on the town, since the busses don't leave until tomorrow. The only video that we get is the soccer moms meeting some kids and having them remind them of their own kids. This means 2 things - 1. We get a heartwarming trip from the women - awwwwwbarf. and 2. - Since they are getting lots of camera time, and since they are in the loser bus, they are my early nomination to go bye bye.

Ken and Gerard don't want to be warm and friendly - and they don't want to be the first team to go bye-bye. Knowing that they are stuck in the last bus, they decide to take the Fast Forward - which has the teams to look for a street typist in Santo Domingo Plaza with a message for the team that finds it - the location of the checkpoint. The twins, bereft of stuff, also decide to go for the Fast Forward - but they decide to jog, while the brothers decide to taxi it. Taxi beats jogging, and Ken and Gerard go to the Pit Stop - the hacienda San Gabriel de Espanas. The twins are also models, which, based on what they've done so far (which hasn't included intelligent decisions), should surprise nobody.

While Ken and Gerard are off to the hacienda, everyone is off via the busses to the Tequesquistengo airfield. Once the first bus gets there, they see a detour, which is a choice of two tasks. Teams have to do one of the following -

Wings - board a plane (which goes up 10,000 feet) and skydive to the next clue.
Wheels - direct a driver (who speaks no English) with a donkey and a little cart to the clue - 7 miles away.

Michael and Kathy decide to ride on the donkey, while the other three go skydiving. Once they get to the clue - it directs all of the teams to the pit stop. But Ken and Gerard get there first, and win a 7 night Caribbean Vacation. Whoo-hoo!

Here comes Bus #2 - and they are much more chicken than the first group - they ALL take the donkey cart - but Heathers and Eve's cart breaks down, so they turn back and decide to skydive. This terrifies Eve, since it's her biggest fear.  Those donkeys looked pretty scary, too, as Teri and Ian's is being rebellious (It's a Jackass, I think, says Ian).  The women decide to do it - and they make it.

Flo and Zack are second, followed by Aaron and Arianne and Michael and Kathy. John Vito and Jill round out the first bus people, coming in fifth, and Heather and Eve, who skydove, beat everyone else on the second bus to come in sixth.

Here comes the third bus - and none of them being dummies (well, maybe the models), they all decide to skydive. Meanwhile, Andre and Damon  come in seventh while the rest of the teams are scrambling to the Hacienda San Gabriel.   Dennis and Andrew come in 8th, The twins and the African American brother and sisters ask for directions, while the Soccer moms follow a VERY slow helper to the Hacienda.

Teri and Ian come in ninth, so it's down to the three teams in the third bus. Talicia's car lost their clutch - so they think they are in dead last. But they didn't get lost, so they wind up getting there before the other 2 teams and come in tenth. When they find this out, they are very excited.  'WE DON'T CARE WE DON'T CARE!!! Screams Talicia as she and Tramel dance all over the Hacienda. The models, lost , bewildered and trying to do everything to eliminate themselves from the competition, come in eleventh.

That leaves the soccer moms, who didn't do anything stupid, but got caught with a bad set of wheels and a slow helper. They gave it their best, and best, in this case, was to join the ranks of first groups eliminated from a reality show. The soccer moms are the first team to go ILoveyoubuhbye.

EPISODE 2
12 little teams started this little competition - until the soccer moms got booted from the race. Now we have eleven teams left - and one of them will be getting the red flag at the end of the hour.

Keeping with the traditional rules, once a team gets to the pit stop, they have to stay there for 12 hours before advancing to the next pit stop. Ken and Gerard were the first there at 10:36 am - they leave at 10:36 pm. They have to drive to Tehotihuacan and find the Pyramid of the Sun. Flo and Zach are next - and they've allied with Aaron and Arianne, since 4 people can read the map better than 2. The next 2 teams have also allied with each other - Michael and Kathy and John Vito and Jill. Heather and Eve, who aren't aligned with anyone yet, are next. Right now, the alliances aren't doing anyone any good as they have all caught up with each other.

Ken and Gerard get to the Pyramid of the Sun right when the father and son team and Ian and Teri leave - but they'll all get there at around the same time. Andre and Damon sort of...well...cheated by actually using the donkey cart to find the shortest race, instead of following the path. So they get penalized for 78 minutes and start in ninth instead of seventh. In addition, Damon has started to get ill and may have come down with 'Montezuma's revenge' - or they got their food poisoned by the unhappy Amazing Race judges who don't like what they've been doing so far. Either way, that's not a good sign, since like in Survivor, the sick people are the ones who usually leave the party early. Tramel and Talicia, who now call themselves T and T - get out 10th, and the models are in last.

Aaron and Arianne have spearheaded an everybody against the models campaign.  They're just too damn pretty...they don't need to win this race...look at us...we need to win this race.'. The twins are also known as the 'Doublemints' maybe because their collective IQ is around the same as a stick of gum?

The models, not being complete idiots, as they realize that they are in last, decide to use the Fast Forward - which is to go to the Museum of Mexican history - and find the Voladores, who climb to the top of the pole and dangle by their feet all the way down. The first team to join the Voladores on their quest and go all the way down wins the Fast Forward.

The front runners get stuck behind a log-carrying truck, and since everyone else is following the frontrunners, everyone is getting stuck as well. But they are all getting stuck together. Meanwhile, the alliance building continues, as Teri and Ian find Ken and Dennis, and they align with each other.

The top 6 teams - including Eve and Heather, who got there before the alliances, are there bright and early at 7. John Vito and Jill take the lead - and the clue says to go to San Marino Marina in Cancun - but the teams have to get there via a 24 hour bus ride. Flo and Zach are first, followed by Aaron and Arianne, Kathy and Michael and Heather and Eve.

In the second tier, Andre and Damon are first, followed by Teri and Ian and pop/son. T and T are in the process of blowing themselves up, as they are in...well, where the heck are they? They're around here somewhere, I guess...

The models, meanwhile, get to the Fast Forward. They complete it and they get the address of this leg's Pit Stop - Diamante K Bungalows in the town of Taloon.

The top 6 teams all get to the bus station, and they all get the 10:00 am bus. Andre and Damon just miss the first bus - so they get stuck on the 1:30 bus - along with everyone else that was left. 'It's a new race all over again.' says Andre and Damon - unfortunately for them, because they are 3 1/2 hours behind the first bus - and unless a major disaster happens, one of these teams - Tramel and Talicia, Andre and Damon, Teri and Ian, or Dennis and Andrew - will be the second team eliminated.

And a major disaster does happen - but to their bus. An automobile accident blocks traffic - and smashes into the second bus. This takes an additional hour and change, as the other teams change buses, and the models are seeing their Fast Forward go down the tubes.

It's 9:42 am and the first bus goes into Cancun bus station. Everyone pretty much gets there at the same time - and when they get to the Marina, there is a detour. Teams have to do one of the following to find a route marker -

Manpower - use a kayak to search a small area for the clue
Horsepower - use a Waverunner to search a very large lagoon for the clue

The teams are split -Ken and Gerard, Flo and Zach and Heather and Eve do the Waverunner, while Michael and Kathy and John Vito and Jill, and Ken and Gerard who does the kayak. 'I feel like the queen of the Nile' explains Ken. No comment.

Once the teams find the clue, teams then  have to go to Cozumel. Flo and Zach find the flag first, and away they go. The brothers are second, followed by the rest of the kayakers -  except for  John Vito and Jill, who give up doing that and go back and use the Waverunners. The ferry to Cozumel is at 1pm. Aaron and Arianne, Michael and Kathy, Flo and Zach and Heather and Eve get on the ferry. Ken and Gerard and John Vito and Jill have to take the next ferry.

While they're waiting for the second ferry, the second bus gets in and the four teams all get to San Marino running neck and neck there. At the detour site, they all take the waverunners. T and T get a little too reckless as they are steering the Waverunner - and they overturn the waverunner - T and T now stands for W and W - wet and waterlogged. But they have company - Teri and Ian also capsize their waverunner - and it looks like the race to be booted is down to those 2 teams, as the other 2 teams are well on their way to Cozumel.

Teri and Ian get there first, as T and T capsize their Waverunner - again. That looks like the dumb-ass move of the episode, as Teri and Ian right themselves and get out of there, leaving them as the only team left at the Marina.

Roadblock time - a Roadblock is a task that only one person can undertake. In this case, the person gets to swim with the dolphins underwater. Once they get the clue, they have to get to the Diamante K Bungalows. The last team to check in can go back and dive with the dolphins on their own leisure as they will be eliminated.

Aaron and Arianne get done first, followed by Zach and Flo. Heather and Eve are third. Michael, who realizes that he should not be doing this stunt, gets done in fourth with Kathy. 'I can't skydive, I can't swim...I can cook though' I somehow don't think there will be a cooking event here, Michael.

Three of the bottom four teams make the ferry - but T and T miss it. Well, there's the result of the  dumb-ass move of the episode, and there is your last place team, barring something incredibly dumb done by the other three teams.

The models, meanwhile, still haven't found the Pit Stop, as they are feuding - but they do get there in first - how they did that is still a mystery. 'The other teams are going to be really scared to see us up front, I hope' Uhhhh....no.

Aarno and Arianne are in second. 'We are hellbent on getting the doublemints out of here - they are an Abercrombie and Fitch campaign gone horribly wrong.' Heather and Eve come in third, and Michael and Kathy come in fourth. Flo and Zach come in fifth, Ken and Gerard are sixth.

The other teams all get to the clue at the same time - Dennis and Andrew, Teri and Ian, and Andre and Damon leave the Dolphins in that order - and well behind are T and T, who are seen in a flashback getting the clue.

John Vito and Jill are in seventh, and there is a huge gap between them and everyone else that is left. Andre and Damon pop into eighth, which means that some teams got lost on the way, since they were behind Dennis and Andrew and Teri and Ian. Dennis and Andrew come in ninth, and Teri and Ian come in tenth, as they got lost - but not as lost as T and T - which should be L and L - Lost and Last. But that's what happens when dynamite comes in contact with water - it fizzles out.

EPISODE 3
Last episode, most of the teams got lost, and T and T got really lost and blew themselves right out of the competition. The models are in first, but they have used their Fast Forward to get there - and every team wants them out of the competition. Can they stay in the race? And if so, which team replaces them as the next team out of the competition?

This week, we are starting from the Diamante K Bungalows - and the models leave at 3:18 am. They have to go to Cambridge and go to the marker in front of a business called Scudamore's. A and A leave next, followed, by Flo and Zach, Heather and Eve, and Michael and Kathy. All of the teams have one thing in common - they want to get rid of the models (AKA Dolce and Gabbana).

The models get to the Airlines first, but meanwhile, the other 5 teams at the top ally themselves together. The first flight takes leaves at 7am - and the teams are already going on a twin hunt. 'Whoever captures a twin, gets a prize'.

Ken and Gerard lead the second group, followed by Andre and Damon, Dennis and Andrew, and Teri and Ian. Flo/zach and Heather/Eve decide to book the whole flight through, instead of booking on the fly. Everyone is taking their own flight over there - and clever scheduling can cause a team to move to the front - or be dropped to the back.

Ken/Gerard, John Vito/Jill and Andre/Damon go to Mexico City to get to London. Ken/Gerard already have the tickets to go all the way there, while the other 2 teams have to hope that those tickets are available. At 11:15 am, the twins depart to go to Miami, then to London. At 11:55 am, Teri and Ian go from Cancun to England.

Andrew and Dennis pull the booking Dumb-Ass move of the episode - and see all of the tickets getting sold out in front of them. They finally get their tickets - but not before all of the other teams are in the air before them. They are already setting their sights on the Fast Forward.

Michael/Kathy and the AA's get to Miami - only to find that they are out of seats - and that they will be delayed. That alliance may turn into the battle of who gets the final space that's available for this leg but they get business class tickets - and a quick flight to London to stay in the top group.

But it's the models that get to London first. Ken and Gerard's flight planning was excellent, as they scheduled their way into second. Flo/Zach and Heather/Eve are right on their heels. Once the twins get to Scudmores, they have a detour to get to the next clue.

Punt - Take a slow boat using a pole to steer it for one mile to get the marker under the bridge.

Bike - Bike a 6 mile course to get the flags.

The Models decide to boat - and they start to get snippy while rowing. But they stay dry and get everything completed well before everyone else even gets to England. But here comes the great equalizer - the teams have to take a bus to Aberdeen, Scotland. The first bus leaves at 7:30pm - the second bus leaves 2,5 hours later, and the third bus leaves 3.5 hours after that. It's tantamount to get on that first bus.

The models, knowing that they have 6+ hours to kill, decide to sunbather and do model like things. This is the reason why we are all envious of you and we want to see you lose - we are a jealous nation.

Ken and Gerard decide to punt - and they don't end up nearly as dry as the models. Both of them take a bath in the river, to the applause of the locals. They do get to the marker in second place, however - they can dry off while waiting for the bus.

Michael and Kathy decide to boat. 'This is corny, I don't want to be corny' A and A decide to bike. Flo and Zach and Heather and Eve arrive next - and they all decide to boat. They are all going in front of Flo and Zach, who change their minds and decide to bike. All of the top teams get there for the 7:30 pm bus.

Meanwhile, an unholy alliance may be forming as Ken and Gerard, who get there second, start talking to the Dolce and gabanna twins. Hmmmmmmm.....

John Vito/Jill is the first team in the second group, followed quickly by Andre/Damon. Teri and Ian are next - and they think that they are last and Ian is thinking about giving up. But they're not - Dennis and Andrew are still nowhere to be seen.

John Vito and Jill are the only group to get to the second bus. They get there right before 10 pm - and virtually assure themselves safety for the next few episodes, as they distance themselves from the back of the pack.

Andre/Damon and Teri/Ian punt - and they're both going the wrong way. Andre and Damon realign themselves and get there first, followed by Teri and Ian - 'We ran into Andre and Damon, which means that we are not last - we are tied for last'.

No, you're not. Andrew and Dennis are - and they go directly for the Fast Forward. The father and son team have to drive a tank around a obstacle course at Duxford Imperial Field. The first team that completes it in less than 90 seconds gets the Fast Forward.

The rest of the teams now have to go to Stonehaven - and it's every team against the twins. Flo and Zach wave at the twins as they pass them into first - and everyone else is passing the twins too. Heather and Eve and Ken and Gerard get there first - and hit a roadblock.

One of the people have to complete the Highland Games, which is comprised of three events - a Caber (pole) toss, which has to land between 2 lines, a hammer throw (the hammer has to land on a yellow strip), and a shot put, which has to continue to be thrown until it goes past the finish line. When they complete the shot put, the team gets the next clue.

The twins complete the event first, followed by Ken and Gerard and the rest of the top groups - except for Michael and Kathy, who get the first Taxi Driver from Hell of the season. They went a good 3 miles off course, and they have to turn around and go back to the Highland Games.

Dunnottar Castle is the next Pit Stop, and all of the teams have to race on foot to get there. Well, almost all of them - Dennis and Andrew, who completed the 90 second obstacle course in 77 seconds, get a chauffeured driven Limo to get there, and Andrew gives us a victory rap -

Dennis and Andrew are really fast
They drove that tank across a lot of grass
We're so fast, we're going to kick your (beep)

I don't think Eminem has much to worry about.

While the dad and son team are celebrating, keep in mind that they got there a day later than everyone else - can the Fast Forward make up 24 hours of time?

The twins, the team that every team loves to hate, comes in first for the second straight week. Ken and Gerard come in second place, Flo and Zach are in third, followed by Aaron and Arianne, Heather and Eve, and Michael and Kathy, who finally find their way to the Highland Games.

John Vito and Jill come in seventh place - and Dennis and Andrew still haven't shown up. Teri and Ian and Andre and Damon get to the Highland Games. Ian, who is sore and winded, tells Teri to do it - and that may have been a huge strategical error, as they are going directly against Andre and Damon, who complete the highland games first. They come in eighth, while Teri and Ian, who thought that they came in last, survives and finishes it in ninth.

The bad plane scheduling did Andrew and Dennis in, and they make history - this is the first time that a team that used the Fast Forward in an episode did them no good. So I have a rap for them -

One is called Dennis, the other Andrew
Their flight plan strategy really blew
They wound up finishing in third to last place
so they get to watch someone else win the Amazing Race

More really bad rhyming to come next episode.

EPISODE 4
We have rid ourselves of two rapping teams. There are nine teams left - and one of them will be getting some time to rap some more with Andrew and TNT. Which team is the next one to get the rap?

We start 12 hours after the first team has gotten in - for the second straight time, the models leave first as Derek and Drew leave at 10:56 pm - they have to go to Stone Haven Harbor - a good mile and a half walk. Ken and Gerard leave next - and as was suspected last episode, they have created an evil alliance with the twins.

Following them is Flo and Zack, Aaron and Arianne, and Heather and Eve - the three major teams in the 'Twin Hunt' campaign. Michael and Kathy leave 15 minutes later, and the relationship experiment has thrown some elements off kilter. 'He is type C and I am type A - hopefully together we can create a type B'.

The Twin Hunt alliance get to the harbor first - and they find bottles telling the teams to go to Calem Port Lodge - in Portugal. The alliance reserves three sets of tickets - and they're good to go. Michael and Kathy make their move, as they find someone who will give them a lift - which is well before the rest of the teams get their taxi. John Vito and Jill leave 45 minutes after Michael and Kathy - and by getting a ride from someone at a local pub, and they join the rest of the teams in the front pack.

Andre and Damon leave at 5:26 am - well behind the rest of them - Teri and Ian are right behind them - so they are the top 2 teams in contention for elimination. Andre and Damon think ahead and get their tickets - while spying on Teri and Ian. Both teams take the 10am flight.

The twins and dual brother team take a flight plan that will get them 25 minutes faster than everyone else - but there is a 30 minute exchange and both teams will get seriously screwed if they miss it. The other fivesome decide that it's too risky and take the slower way.

The slower way, however, is really slow - that allows Teri and Ian and Andre and Damon to catch up - much to the chagrin of the other teams, since Andre and Damon was the team that cut lines and pissed the rest of the teams off, and Ian is...well...obnoxious. 'Well, me and Teri are here, and we see almost everyone else here, which means we are no longer bringing up the rear...maybe someone else can small some rear end for awhile.' Spoken like a true gentleman, Ian.

And the early nominees for rear smellers are the models and the brothers. The plan to go into the lead by 25 minutes looks like it's going to royally backfire, as in their haste to make the flight connection, they don't have a boarding pass - and they need one to get on the flight. If they don't get on that plane - the 2 team alliance may turn into the battle to avoid being in last - but the nice airline people hold the plane for them as they get their boarding passes, so they are delayed by a little - but they still make their plane and are still in the lead when the planes land.

The next clue is at Calem Port Lodge. The modelas and brothers get in right before 4pm. Everyone else gets in at 4:15 pm - and the rest of the teams may be switching from a Twin Hunt to a Get rid of Ian hunt, 'Ian defines ugly American...I want to see them go down.' says Zach. Ian's response? 'The gloves are off now - the race is on'

The AMA (All Male Alliance) of the Models and Ken/Gerard gets to the Port first - and they run into a Detour. The teams have to deliver wine - and they can do it in one of two ways:

Old School - Load one 90 pound barrel of wine into a portugal wine ship and row it across the shore. The only have to make one delivery.

New School - Take a truck, load small crates of bottles and deliver 3 crates of bottles to 3 different locations.

The AMA decides to only load one big bottle in. Derek and Drew gets done first and get the next clue first - go to Gate F - Estadio de Restelo Stadium in Madrid - for the next clue. When the rest of the teams arrive, John Vito/Jill, Andre/Damon and Heather and Eve go New School - Aaron/Arianne, Flo/Zach and Teri/Ian go old school. Aaron and Arianne get done first, followed by Teri and Ian. Andre and Damon go to the Majestic Cafe second, but the rules say you have to go there last - d'oh!. They see their lead vanish - and vanish even further when going back to the second stop, they are boxed in by Heather/Eve and John Vito/Jill.

Who are we leaving out? Oh yeah, Michael and Kathy - they haven't gotten to the port - they have gotten lost and are in dead last. They finally got there - and instead of using the fast Forward, they take the detour and use the boat.

Andre and Damon help Heather and Eve with their delivery - and they tell the women to move the truck. John Vito and Jill get done from the New School group first. Andre/Damon pass Heather and Eve, and the women are having massive problems with the car - specifically, the stick shift. Heather and Eve even get to crash their car against a pole, but all of the teams get to the train station in a timely manner - as they are all taking the same train down to Lisbon. It's a whole new race, much to the delight of Andre/Damon and Teri/Ian, but to chagrin to the AMA, as fearing elimination if they stick as a group, Ken and Gerard decide to disband from the models.

Ken and Gerard get so the stadium first, followed quickly by Flo and Zack. Roadblock time - someone has to block a soccer penalty kick from a Portuguese teen. You do that, you get the next clue. The Torre de Belem is the next Pit Stop - teams have to walk a mile and a half to it. A lot of walking to be done - and that puts Teri and Ian at a distinct disadvantage. It's even more of a disadvantage since they did not get there yet - and neither has Aaron and Arianne.

Michael and Kathy are first, followed by Ken and Gerard and Andre and Damon, The models are next, Then John Vito and Jill, Flo and Zack and Heather and Eve. As Ken and Gerard pass a taxi, they remind themselves that they have to walk to the Pit Stop, not take a cab there. You have a feeling that one of those teams is going to ignore that part of the rule? Like Andre and Damon, who already have not been reading the clues correctly and have screwed up once already this episode?

There are 2 teams left on the soccer field - Aaron/Arianne and Teri/Ian. Arianne decides to block the shot - and that was a tactical blunder, because she's way too short. The much older but taller Ian blocks the kick first and off they go. leaving the Double A's to wonder if they're double out. 'We're so gone' wails Aaron. They finally get it done - but they think they're out, but there'splenty of time to catch up, as Flo and Zach lose their compass, and Zack looks like he fell and hurt himself.

But the people who really hurt themselves was Heather and Eve. They wind up being the team that did not read the clue correctly and commit the dumb-ass move of the episode by taking a taxi to get there instead of walking - and they do come in first - but they will also be penalized. The question is - by how much?

Ken and Gerard are second. Flo and Zack move into third, followed by the models. Andre and Damon move all the way up to fifth. Also improving their lot is Teri and Ian, who come in sixth place. The ugly Americans stay ugly for another episode. John Vito and Jill come in seventh place. Michael and Kathy come in eighth place. Aaron and Arianne do come in ninth place - BUT they are not the team eliminated.

Heather and Eve's mistake cost them a 37 minutes penalty. That penalty knocks them out of the race and Aaron and Arianne get to fight another day. Heather and Eve's day is over - and isn't it ironic that the Harvard Law students are eliminated because they didn't read the fine print accurately?

EPISODE 5
This show is teaching the kids that Reading is Fundamental - Heather and Eve didn't believe that, so out they go. We will be getting rid of another team that is fundamentally bad at something. WHich team gets to go?

All of the teams are separated by a total of 37 minutes, so it's not like one team has an advantage over another. But two teams start out with disadvantages - the teams of Derek and Drew and Ken and Gerard have both used their Fast Forwards - should they get stuck in the back of the group, they have no short cut to use to get back to the front. Should either of them get ridiculously behind, then their stay on the short will end on this episode.

But they are not too concerned about that now, since Ken and Gerard are the first to leave Lisbon, Portugal, with the models in third, with Flo and Zach sandwiched in between.

Find the Westernmost point of continental Europe. That would be Cabo Da Roca. it's only 22 miles away, so it's sort of a trick question. Will any of the teams be fooled by it?

Ken and Gerard aren't, and since they are still aligned with the twins, the twins can save their brain cells to use on sunbathing. Andre and Damon are next - and they have no clue, so they follow the twins. Flo and Zach find out from the locals that its Cabo Da Roca, as do Teri and Ian. john Vito and Jill also find it - but they take the Taxi to get there, whereas everyone else is taking the train. Michael and Kathy are also Taxi-ing it, and team AA are gunning it. 'To be coming in the last stage last was a real kick in the ass.'

Teri and Ian start bickering again. 'I am the navigator, and when I say we fly, it's time to fly' Teri is probably hoping that his engine loses a gasket and that she has to steer the plane - and force him to skydive off of it.

While in the taxi, John Vito and Jill pass Ken and Gerard - who with the models are going to Santa Apolonia - which is where the trains are Ken and Gerard decide to play snobby and not tell them where they're going, but the joke is on them, since if they did talk, then they would have gotten to the Cabo with everyone else.

At the trains, Andre and Damon, who have no clue where they're going, bribe the models and Ken and Gerard $30 to tag along with them. The other 2 teams decide that they will follow them no matter what, so they invite Andre and Damon into their alliance. The All-Male-Alliance team is now complete.

But they are in last, as Aaron and Arianne, thanks to the taxi, get there first, followed by John Vito and Jill. They both get to the clue - and it's a detour. The teams have to get to the next clue using one of two methods - Ropes or Slopes -

Ropes - repel 300 feet down to the shore below, where the clue is waiting.

Slopes - Hike down the sloping trail, which will take much longer.

Team AA and John Vito and Jill immediately decide to repel. Teri and Ian are next, and they also repel. The train station comes in well after everyone else, and the manly alliance all get there last.

While the manly alliance is getting taxis to the repelling site, let's see how everyone else is doing. Aaron's rope is caught, but they get it unstuck and are the first ones done with the repel. Tangier, Moracco is the next place to go, and they get there by going to Alciera and then by taking a ferry to Morocco. John Vito and jill are right behind them.

Michael/Kathy and Flo/Zach and Teri/Ian all get to the cliff at the same time, and all of the women are freaking out - but none more than Flo, who wants to quit repelling as she is 20 feet down the cliff. They do and decide to hike down instead. That proves costly, as right after they decide to hike, the rest of the groups get to the repel site.

Ian/Teri and Michael/Kathy do complete the repel. The brothers and Andre/Damon are next. Ken and Gerard are trailing the pack as we get to listen to some of their mirth. 'Brother, I love you but if you dont do this, I break your ass...Just pretend that there is a dozen glazed donuts at the bottom!' He does, apparently, and them and Andre/Damon are done next, with the models and Flo/Zach vying for the basement.

It's now a rush to the ferry to try to get the closest one. Andre/Damon are looking at the gas tank for their car - and they see it needs diesel - so does John Vito and Jill. Teri and Ian don't read very well and they stick non-diesel fuel into their tank - and so does Aaron and Arianne - and so does Flo and Zach - and so does Michael and Kathy. The next time you give contestants an examination, MAKE SURE THE PEOPLE KNOW HOW TO READ!!!!!

The car doesn't work very well with the wrong gas in the car, and all four teams are realizing this. Ian was the first person to realize this, but he decides to do something about it, which is not what Aaron does. 'The car's dead, it's one o'clock in the morning, and we're in the middle of nowhere - I want to go home.' Not on a car with the wrong gas in it, you won't - but if you keep whining and not do anything about it, you will be going home.

Teri and Ian decide to walk to the gas station - and they are rather close to it. So do Flo and Zach, while Aaron and Arianne are sulking on the sidewalk, with Aaron sobbing. Flo wants to quit the race. Teri and Ian, remarkably, are the first ones to get help and Ian siphons the gas. Flo/Zach start their car and are back into it. So do Teri and Ian. Aaron and Arianne flag down a police officer and they get help for their car. Michael and Kathy decide that since they are stuck, they give up for now and stay at a hotel overnight while their car is being fixed - that's the dumb-ass move of the episode as everyone else is en route to the ferry.

Meanwhile, at Algeciras, the people who do know how to read are getting on the ferry. Andre/Damon meet John Vito and Jill, while the rest of the AMA show up in third and fourth. The first ferry holds the first four teams - and the clue on the other side of the boat says to go to Viajes Mandria - a bus charting company - in order to go to Fez. Each bus has room for three teams - and the busses leave one hour apart. The AMA get the first three spaces, so John Vito and Jill get stuck on the second bus, which will have them, Ian/Teri and Flo/Zach.

Aaron and Arianne are next - 'We went from happy and excited to bitter and jaded in 24 hours.' says Aaron. They get even more bitter - they missed the second ferry, but unbeknownst to them, Michael and Kathy have also missed the ferry and are even further behind than they are. Aaron and Arianne get the third ferry - and Michael and Kathy don't.

Ken and Gerard get there first, and the next clue is a Road Block time. One person has to find an animal tannery. In the tannery are 25 vats - three of them have the clue to the Pit Stop - the rest have dead smelly animals in them. Ewwwwwww. When they get the last clue, the teams have to go to the Roof top of the Borj Nord - that's the Pit Stop - and the last team there can take a crash course on how to properly gas one's car.

Ken and Gerard once again secure the top spot, come in first and because they won this lap, they win a digital camera! Whoo-hoo. Andre and Damon come in second, followed by the Doublemint Twins. This episode, the AMA has gotten stronger, and that spells trouble for the rest of the teams.

John Vito/Jill and Flo/Zach make their own alliance and come in tied for fourth. Teri and Ian come in sixth, and Aaron and Arianne, who don't quit the race, wind up in seventh and they get to continue.

This leaves us with Michael and Kathy, who we don't get to see do any more tasks, but with all of the hotel time, they did gel together as a couple, right? Wrong, according to Michael, who sees this thing end and they both have to go their own way. Couples trying to get back together have has an awful record on this show - out of the 4 couples in turmoil, only Frank and Margarite from season one have wanted to stay together. So the show decides to divorce themselves from Michael and Kathy, and send them on their way.

EPISODE 6
We skip last week thanks to the Country Music Awards, but one of these teams will be singing their own ballad. Michael and Kathy had the split-up blues, and now another team will be singing the lack of Air-Time sorrow song.

We start this week in the city of Fez - and the teams will be leaving from there. The leaders of the All Male Alliance, Ken/Gerard, leave at 4:43 am in search of the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca - the second largest religious monument in the world. Andre/Damon take off at 4:37 and the models depart at 4:44.

Is it a full alliance? Ken/Gerard reluctantly let Andre/Damon follow them, waiting for the time to ditch them. '911? No way, they can't read a map - they don't know where they're going'. Meanwhile, the secondary alliance of Flo/Zach and John Vito/Jill leave around 30 minutes later.

Teri and Ian leave at 5:30am, and pass the secondary alliance when John Vito's van blows a gasket. They get a replacement car, but they lose an hour on everyone. In addition to that, Flo and Zach dont realize that John Vito and Jill aren't behind them, which ticks them off.

Once the teams get to the Mosque, they have to get to a train station called The Pomery. The AMA get there - no problem. Teri and Ian hire a taxi, which takes them to the Mosque, while after getting to the Mosque, Flo and Zac ask a taxi to take them to the Pomery - but the taxi they ask is the same one that Ian asked to bring them to the mosque. OOPS.

Ian and Flo get into it, with Ian ordering the taxi driver not to go anywhere until he's done. Flo, pissy, tells Zach that they'll find their own taxi, and the mood has changed from Model hunt to Ian and Teri hunt. Ian, sensing the animosity building up, is thinking about using the Fast Forward.

The 9:10 train leaves - with the AMA on it. Flo/Zac and Ian/Teri get to the next train - which doesn't leave for another 2 hours. That gives John Vito and Jill time to catch up with everyone else - and all of the teams are thinking about using the Fast Forward.

But the two hour delay is not enought time for Aaron and Arianne - they miss that bus and have to take the next one - another 2 hour wait. Uh oh. Meanwhile, in Marrakhech, the AMA get to a detour, which is called - Now you see it; Now you don't -

Now You See It - Ride horses to a route marker and dig up clues in the sand. You know where you're going, but it will take longer.

Now you dont - Ride a buggy and make a rubbing of the clue, faster, but you don't know where you're going.

Ken and Gerard use the horses, while the models and Team 911 take the buggies. Since the brains took the horses, the buggy people, naturally, get lost. Meanwhile, the brothers get tired of digging and they take the buggies.

The models and team 911 get the clue - and now they have to find someone to translate it. Once they get the translation, they have to go to a roof of a building called The Glacier Cafe and get the instructions on what to do next - but the roof doesn't open up until 4:45 pm - which gives the trailing teams plenty of time to catch up.

The Models and Team 911 figure it out - The Glacier Cafe in Marrakech is the site for the next clue. Teri and Ian decide to go for the Fast Forward - and so do John Vito and Jill, after defeating Flo/Zac in a Rock aper Scissors shootout.

Jamaa El-Fina Market is the Fast Forward - and the objective is to find it under a set of carpets. John Vito and Jill do get there and search with Teri and Ian - but the old cranky couple get the Fast Forward first. The Forward leads the crabby couple to another rooftop - but this one belongs to the Riad Catalina. Since they win the 6th leg, they each win a Kodak digital camera. 'We get nasty sometimes, but when the push comes to shove, we shove together.' The problem is now that all of the other teams want to shove you out of the race.

Meanwhile, Aaron and Arianne finally get to Marrakesch - and unbeknownst to them, the Fast Forward has already been claimed, which puts them in an even deeper hole, since they have wasted more time going out of their way to go to the place that housed the Fast Forward.

All of the other teams get to the Cafe Glacier and are waiting for it to open. Once it does, there is a Road Block - one person has to help set up a vending stand and help them sell 5 balls of escargot. Once they do that, they then get the final clue to the Pit Stop.

While this is going on, Aaron and Arianne are playing with the dune buggies. But boogieing away from the table is Andre and Damon, who get the first clue to go to the Riad Catalina. John Vito and Jill are next, then Ken and Gerard, Flo and Zac, and finally the models.

'This is whats frustrating about this race - the driver has our destiny in his hands.' says Andre and Damon. And that's frustrating, because Flo and Zac (second), and Ken and Gerard (third), who left after them, get to the Pit Stop before them. That's a sign of driver incompetency, and sure enough, Andre and Damon get the taxi driver from Hell, which brings them to a mosque. This one is a nationally sacred one - and its guarded by nationals. As the cameras get shut off by the nationalists, Andre and Damon get detained, and so does their chances for winning the race.

The models come in fourth, and John Vito and Jill come in fifth. Andre and Damon finally get back on the trail, and believe it or not, they still manage to finish in sixth.

Aaron and Arianne couldn't get out of last place, and what killed them was that last train that they missed. The delay put them so far back that not even an Andre and Damon detainment can stop them from being eliminated. They are eliminated as the field is now down to half of what was started.

EPISODE 7
In the past 2 seasons of this show, there were 13 episodes, leaving three of them so be 'safety points', or Pit Stops that did not result in the last place being eliminated. This season, there are only 11 episodes, leaving no margin for error until the final 3 - if that. So every team must be on their toes - especially Andre and Damon, who's detainment puts them significantly behind everyone else.

We start at the Riad Catalina, where Teri and Ian leave at 3:25 am. Time to go to Munich, Germany, where they have to find a statue called Freezingle, and once there, the teams need to find Kasbolay, a famous German handpuppet. 'If we run a clean race from here on out and not make any more major mistakes, we should be in a good position.' says Ian. The mistakes better not be financial, because the additional money that they get for the leg is a whopping one dollar.

While they are making they're flight plans, Flo and Zach leave at 5:19. They can't find the way out of the hotel as Ken and Gerard leave at 5:20 and Derek and Drew leave at 5:27. Flo and Zach do find their way out, and are the first of the group of three to get a taxi. John Vito and Jill leave at 5:32. The rest of the teams get to the airport as Teri and Ian leave to go to Zurich, which will transfer to Munich. But those flights to the rest of the teams are all booked, so the rest of the teams will have to go to Casablanca first, then go to Munich.

Andre and Damon leave at 7:04 - and they have the same problems as everyone else. but instead of going to Casablanca, they squabble a little and then instead of flight, they take a taxi - which will take them 2 and a half hours. Meanwhile, the rest of the teams have already gotten to Casablanca. Uh-ho.

At Casablanca, we have a little tiff between the All Male Alliance, and the couples alliance with Flo/Zach and John Vito/Jill. Specifically, Flo and Drew. Lets take a listen to this lovely conversation:

Flo: I don't like - I dont like to be so nasty
Derek: You're very good at it...it's your nature to be nasty.
Flo That's not true
Derek: You're the dirtiest player left in the game...We can't trust any of you four, but we can trust Ken and Gerard

Alright kittens, you can sheath the claws back in now. But we will be going back to this little piece of text later.

Also back in the game - Andre and Damon, who do catch up to the teams in Casablanca. 'Our whole lead is destroyed' complains Zach. 'It's annoying'. What's even more annoying is Flo, who decides to truly play dirty pool, as she is sick of Andre and Damon being in the race.

She tells the airline that they are on a flight, and they do not want Andre and Damon on the same flight. Flo and Zach are the next on the line - but they don't make the plane that the AMA and John Vito and Jill are on and have to wait for the 3pm flight. Andre and Damon, successfully thwarted from getting on the plane by Flo, are also stuck at the airlines. Meanwhile, Andre and Damon get a flight to Paris, which will then go to Munich.

But it's Teri and Ian that get to Munich first. They find the hand puppet and now must go to Innsbruck, Austria and find the Pillar of St, Anna. John Vito and Jill are right behind them, followed by the AMA.

Andre and Damon get to Paris, and find a woman working for Lufthansa. They have an hour to get to a connecting flight, but they instead pin their hopes on the woman to get them a better flight. That was a very bad wager, as the ticket counter is closed and the woman can't get the manager to reopen it. The other trailing team, Flo and Zach, realize that they are far behind, and that only Damon and Andre are contemplating taking the Fast Forward.

Teri and Ian get to Innsbruck first - and there's a fast Forward - sled or skate:

Sled - Run down a bobsled course - a scary ride but quick and right down to the next clue.

Skate - Skate an olympic relay course - not as scary, but farther away.

Nothing opens up until 8am, so that gives all of the teams to catch up, which three of the teams do. But two don't - Flo and Zach decide to use the Fast Forward - they have to find a surfer, surfing down self waves in Eisenbach. Andre and Damon are stuck in Paris until 6:45 am the next morning, and that pretty much seals the 'Iloveouybuhbye' quotient of the race.

Flo and Zach are getting stressed out - it's 1:30 am and they sleep in an el cheapo hotel, as tensions rise between them. The AMA and John Vito and Jill do catch Teri and Ian, and the models get the brothers the third place in line, with john Vito and Jill in fourth.

The next morning, Flo and Zach are the first up and they find the surfer. Their reward? A trip to the next Pit Stop, which is in Fussen, Germany. An hour after they get the fast Forward, the other 4 teams are in line for the bob-sled. Teri and Ian go first and they complete it without much fuss. The next destination? the Gondola Nordkette, which is a ski-lift like transporter on the other side of town.

Andre and Damon get to Germany just as the models finish their bobsledding. Ken/Gerard and John Vito and Jill, meanwhile. are waiting for their Taxis to arrive, which causes a gap in tome between them and the front-runners. But they do get the taxis, and the 4 teams get to the lift. When they get there, they hit a Roadblock - the next clue is 230 feet down. One of the two people on the team have to use a harness and cable to drop down and get the clue.

Here;s a gratuitous shot of Andre and Damon getting the clue to go to Innsbruck. That's nice. NEXT!

Teri and Ian get the clue first, and it gives them the final directions to the Pit Stop in Fussen, Germany. But Flo and Zach, fresh off the Fast Forward, get here first, and they come in first place for the leg. Because they come in first, they ALSO get a Kodak Easyshare Digital Camera. Do they have one for each different team who wins a leg of the race? That's tacky.

What else is tacky is the lack of gratitude the models have. Teri finds the models clue as they misplace it. The models, in turn, don't give Teri and Ian any help and they now yet have ANOTHER team with a bulls-eye on their rear end.

The twins have the map, and Ken and Gerard go the other way. See the quote all the way above about the models trusting Ken and Gerard? Bye-bye. 'No more alliances. From here on out, it's just us against everyone'. And it's you against your horrible sense of direction, because the reason why everyone didn't follow the models is because you went the wrong way.

That's not to say that other teams don't have their own problems. The rest of the teams, without the maps, are lost, and they are following Ken and Gerard - but they won't be following them for long because Ken and gerard's tire blows a flat. They try to slow down to hinder the teams from passing them, but that doesn't work as all of the lost teams move ahead of them while they limp into a gas station.

But they are all better than Andre and Damon, who are seen oversleeping on the way to Innsbrook and their train passing the stop. Unless that's a direct train to Fussen, that's not going to improve your standing in the race.

Derek and Drew, who do have the map, are the first team to figure out where they have to go and finish in second. John Vite and Jill come in third and Teri and Ian come in fourth. Ken and Gerard, now at least an hour behind everyone else because of their tire mishap, are now in fifth, but they are still in it. Andre and Damon, thanks to their lack of travel plans and sleeping habits, get to Innsbruck, don't get to do any of the goodies in the episode and are directed to go straight to the Pit Stop in Fussen.

At the end of this episode, there are two teams that have not used the Fast Forward yet. One of them is John Vito and Jill, who are in great shape because they are currently in third and since they are not in any danger of being eliminated right now, can hold on to it until they either need it or are at the end of the race.

The other team is Andre and Damon, who thanks to Flo and an unfortunate travel plan that they were stuck with due to the end of last episode, will not get to use it. They give Phil back the dollar that they were given as expenses for this leg of the tour. That pretty much accounts their plight this episode; they were not a dollar short, but they were a day late.

EPISODE 8
All sorts of tension was sprouting up last week. Tension between Flo and Zach, tension between Ken and Gerard and the models, who have now dropped their alliance. Tension between Teri and Ian and the models, who refused to share info despite Teri and Ian keeping the models in the front pack. Tension between Andre and Damon and the flight schedule, and that one turns out to be fatal, as they get eliminated last episode. The only team that does not have tension is John Vito and Jill - and they are the only team to still have a Fast Forward. Does that mean that they come in first place this week? Or is it a precursor for them being the next team eliminated?

But right now the focus will start on Flo and Zach, as they are the first team to start this leg of the race. Is Flo and Zach making a pact with the models? Derek and Drew seem to think so, as they are ogling Flo. Their first mission for the leg - go find a needle (or a clue) in a hay stack. They get there, and Zach climbs up at the top, being silly. Lo and behold, there's the clue, and they have to go to the rhinefall in Schauffhausen, Switzerland.

The models are next, followed quickly by John Vito and Jill. Flo and Zach get to the ferry, which doesn't open until the next morning, giving once again the teams a chance to catch up. John Vito/Jill and the Doublemint Twins find their clues while Teri and Ian are approaching them. Both teams tell Teri and Ian that they couldn't find the flag - but they all lied and Teri and Ian quickly find that out. They get the flag and away they go. Ken and Gerard also get everything done long before the ferry starts, and we are all back to square one.

Teri and Ian get to vent some steam in front of the lying models and John/Vito and Jill, who all looked like the cat who ate the gold fish. Everyone gets in the same subway to the Rhinefall and everyone gets to a taxi - except John Vito and Jill, who get delayed by 10 minutes since they waited for a taxi without a driver in it. OOPS.

The models get to the flag site first - and realize that you need a boat to get to the flag. The first four teams get the first boat - John Vito and Jill get the second one. The mini-island that holds the clue only has space for one boat at a time, and the boats switch off when another boat needs to get to the island. All of the first teams go up - and they all leave their bags on the boat. That turns out to be a huge tactical error, as the first boat has to leave to let the second boat in.

That second boat contains John Vito and Jill, and Jill keeps the second boat there while John Vito goes up and gets the clue. The other teams can't go back on that boat, because they left all of their stuff on the first boat - the one that just pulled out. So John Vito and Jill move from last to first in one fell swoop as they get the flag and get out of there, leaving the other four teams wishing for a cannonball to sink the boat John Vito and Jill is on.

Time to go back to Zurich and go to a place called the Lindenhof, where they have to find an officer who will lead them to an underground cavern. John Vito and Jill are told to take a bus to the train station, but the other teams are told that there is one within walking distance. They all wind up taking the same train and everyone is back to even again.

Now Ken and Gerard are talking to Flo about Zach, while Gerard, the gay brother in the Ken and Gerard brotherhood, is starting to talk about him and the models. Oooookayyyy - let's get back to the race. All of the teams get to the underground - and there is a detour. There is a safe in front of each team. Inside each safe is the next clue. The Detour is the choice that the teams have to make in terms of how to open the safe -

Count the Money - count the Swiss currency - the total amount will be the combination to the vault. It will take them a while, but they will be at the vault.

Run The Numbers - Get numerical answers to a scavenger hunt which could take them as far as a mile away from the vault.

The models and Flo and Zach do wind up allying with each other and split answers for the vault numbers. John Vito/Jill and Teri/Ian also do the scavenger hunt - but on their own. Ken and Gerard decide to stay there and count the currency.

Derek/Drew, Flo/Zach, and John Vito/Jill all get there first - and all get it wrong the first time. Seeing that they were almost done with the hunt, Ken and Gerard get sick of the money and they now go and do the scavenger hunt. The second time back, John Vito and Jill get it done first and they are off to the next clue, which is in Grindwald, Switzerland - 121 miles away - and find a field with the next route marker.

The models and Flo/Zach are the next 2 teams done, and they meet John Vito and Jill at they train station - but they all miss the bus and have to wait an hour for the next one. Meanwhile, Ken and Gerard get the combination safe done, and they aren't sharing answers with Teri/Ian, who are the only team left at the vault.

Teri/Ian do get it done and they meet all of the teams together a the train station. They all get out at the same time - and the Models get to the clue first. The clue signifies that it's Roadblock time. One of the two people on the team have to relive the legend of William Tell by shooting an arrow off of a mannequin's head. Ian is a retired police officer and Zach has had some experience in archery, so they should have the advantage, right? Zach does, as they are the first to get the final clue for this leg - go to the Chalet Arnika, which is the Pit Stop for the race.

Ken and Gerard are in second, followed by Teri and Ian and the models. John Vito and Jill pick the wrong person to shoot the arrow, as John Vito has a massive problem with the old-fangled archery set and he has to switch hands. You ever have to do anything that you usually do with one hand and switch doing it with the other? It can be frustrating, and the next target John Vito may be shooting at could be the manufacturers of the contraption.

It's now a run to the Pit Stop, and everyone catches up to Zach and a winded out Flo. Meanwhile, John Vito and Jill finally get done, and its a race to get to the chalet. Teri and Ian take the street, while the other three teams go into a pasture. John Vito and Jill are walking up, and hope that someone else gets lost worse than they do.

It won't be the three team group - they get instructions that it's another 400 meters. Ken and Gerard take what they think is a short cut and separate from the rest of the pack. John Vito and Jill find a taxi stand. Flo and Zach finally find the Pit Stop but the models out race them to come in first place. They have now won the obligatory Kodak easy share camera. Flo and Zach come in second. In third place are Teri and Ian, who stay true to their path.

John Vito and Jill do take the taxi - and they see the Pit Stop. Ken and Gerard's short cut was equally as lousy - but they also see it, and it;s a mad dash to it. Ken and Gerard do wind up closer that John Vito/Jill, and they barely beat them to it - they come in fourth, while John Vito and Jill are in fifth.

But those wacky producers get tricky with us, and this is the first of three non-elimination laps. It's usually done earlier, but John Vito and Jill will be happy that they changed the pattern this year, as they are spared. 'We needed a taste of this' says Jill. They are still the team in control as they still have the Fast Forward. If they decide to use it, then one of the other four teams will be saying Bon Voyage.

EPISODE 9
So this is the special 2 hour episode of the Amazing Race (or the OK - the ratings suck, this was a really lousy idea to put this against The Bachelor, let's burn all of these out and regroup for Volume 4 in the Summer). I happen to like this version a lot, and it pains me to see this cut from 13 weeks to 11, but I am not a TV exec - so here we go.

All five teams are close to each other as we start this lap. We have our first love connection brewing? Derek and Drew, first to leave at 4:45 am - and they have to go to the Gletstsherschslucht (oy) to find a key that will open up one of five cars. Flo and Zach leave a minute later, and Flo is flirting with the models. Teri and Ian, the old couple that won't go away leave at 5:03, Ken and Gerard leave at 5:07 and John Vito and Jill leave at 5:08.

'Our gameplan is not to come in last again' says John Vito and Jill, but they don't have to be 0 they are the only team left that has the Fast Forward, which is a short cut to the end of the race, they don't have to worry about it - they get to the lodge first, since everyone else got lost.

Or did they? Flo and Zach and the models stay at a hotel instead and the alliance may be more than that. Ken and Gerard get to the Lodge second, followed by Teri and Ian. But it doesn't really matter, since the place doesn't open unto; 9am.

All of the teams follow John Vito and Jill - and they all go past the keys which are lying on a rack. Duh. They all realize it and they all turn around to get the keys. John Vito and Jill get it done first, and all of the teams have to go to a car train, which will take them through the Alps and to an adventure park.

John Vito and Jill, while in first, decide to use the Fast Forward - which is to find a cheese shop and eat as many pieces of cheese necessary to completely reveal the next clue. Problem - there are over 100 pieces of cheese. They take a few bites of cheese, don't come anywhere near finding a clue, and ponder that they may want to rethink their strategy.

Meanwhile, the other teams get to the car train and the other 4 teams chat with the natives - who say that the red bridge that they have to go to is a bungee jumping bridge. Everyone's sort of cool with that - except Teri, who looks like she'd rather eat all of the cheese. Speaking of cheese, John Vito and Jill finally find the clue, after around 4 layers of cholesterol later - and they go to the Pit Stop - the Steamship Savoie.

Back to the rest of the teams. Flo and Zach are first, but Flo goes to the back of the car to hang with Drew and Derek - something that doesn not make Zach too thrilled. Flo and Zach get out first, with the models, now squabbling because they can't figure out the directions, right behind them. ken and Gerard are right behind the models, and Teri and Ian are behind them - but they are not right behind them, as they get lost on the way. A Detour is awaiting everyone:

Extreme Swiss - take a 620 foot bungee jump. Very scary, but very short and will take them quickly to the next clue.

Very Swiss - Drive 8 miles to the Alps and search 75 goats for one of 5 keys locked in a box. Not terrifying, but could take a while.

The models decide to jump, while the brothers and Flo/Zach decide to go play with the goats. 'Don't Die!' gets yelled to models as they leave. Teri and Ian get there as the 2 teams leave to see the goats. Teri sees one look at the bridge and Teri and Ian decide to fool around with the goats too. 'I was going to skydive, but I am way too scared to bungee jump'.

'Oh my G-d, I need some water so bad' says Drew. No you don't, because you'll probably pee in your pants. Derek tells Drew to 'Own It', and he does. The models aren't scared though, and the complete the jump, putting them into second.

Here come the rest of the teams to play with the goats, and they are having a hootenanny of a time (groooan). Lake Geneva - the chateau de Choine, is the next destination - but the team can make one call on their MOBIL T PHONE - but they have to call before getting in the car.

So we get the warm and fuzzy moments of the series - awwwwwbarf. Zach calls his sister Ariel, Flo calls her friend Lindsay and Ken calls his family. Once again, Teri and Ian get there when everyone else leaves. Ken and Gerard escape first, followed by Flo and Zach, while Teri and Ian start with the goats.

The models get to use the phones too - and Derek calls his wife Rebecca. Everyone is headed to the Lake now - except for Teri and Ian, who are still butting heads with the goats. Teri does get the key to the next round and Teri calls the family. I guess they are not that ugly Americans - or until Teri says 'We're behind, I love you'.

John Vito are not behind - they are about to get to the steamship Savoie. They come in first for the race, and since they already have finished first, they now get a 7 night Caribbean vacation. That sure as hell beats a Kodak Easyshare Camera.

Ken and Gerard get there first - and i's a Roadblock. They have to create a Swiss bike (with a completed bike as the model) and then ride the bike to the next destination. They get to create the bike for a while by themselves, for 2 reasons - 1. Ken sucks at making a bike, and 2, Flo and Zach and Teri and Ian both get lost on the way. Ken and Gerard get the bike completed - and the last clue tells them to go to the Pit Stop.

The models get there next - as well as Flo and Zach. Teri and Ian are still in the car - and they get there as the models leave. But Flo and Zach are still there, and it's a race to get the bike done.

Ken and Gerard find the steamship - but Drew and Derek, in their lovable fashion, once again gets lost. They get the natives to help them find the way and they join Ken and Gerard on the boat - but not before the brothers come in second. The models come in third.

'Zach is feeling a little pressure' says Flo. He'll be feeling more of it - Teri and Ian get their bikes done first and away they go. Flo and Zach finally get the bike completed - and Zach stops to change his pants into shorts. Then Zach steers both of them in the wrong direction. Flo is getting very pissed at Zach. 'We lost. We lost this entire race' says Flo, as it looks like she will be ditching Zach and asking the models if she can be the honorary third member.

But she is not the damsel in distress - Teri is, as she falls off of her bike. That breaks the bike, and Ian has to quickly fix it before they go on their way. Teri and Ian find the Savoie first, and they are paddling off there. Zach gets to the boat and sees Teri and Ian paddling. They could catch up - but Flo gives up and whines and walks up to the boat.

Teri and Ian does get in fourth. 'It pays to have kids, you know how to create bikes.' says Teri. Zach will need to learn that as they finish in last. But for the second straight time, this is a non-elimination point, so they still survive.

Flo quickly realizes the error of her whining ways, and she apologizes to Zach, who would right now probably have no problems sending her over to the models in an exchange for Derek, or Drew, or heck, probably even for a soccer mom or a second season Gutsy Granny. But one thing is for sure - after the next lap, one of the teams will be joining the Gutsy Grannies on the sidelines as spectators.

*****************************************************************************

The second part of the episode begins as John Vito and Jill leave at 12:42am -They have to go to Geneva and find the tallest fountain in Europe - the Jet D'Neau. 2 Hours later is Ken and Gerard, followed by the models, ten minutes back.

John Vito and Jill get to the fountain first - and have to go to a country (signified by a flag) and fly to Kuala Lumpur and go to the tallest buildings there - the Petronas Towers. No one knows what flag that is - But Ken and Gerard's taxi driver knows that it's Malaysia. John Vito and Jill get to the airport - but it's closed, and once again, all of the teams will be able to play catch-up.

Teri and Ian and Flo and Zach leave around 30 minutes after everyone else. Flo and Zach continue to argue, and Zach does not want to spend money on the taxi. Conversely, Teri and Ian, who were squabbling since the beginning of the race, get there as a team. They show a tourist the flag of the country that they have to go to next, and they are told that they are on the wrong continent. Flo and Zach know immediately that the Petronas Tower is in Malaysia, and they are happy to go.

The airport is now open at 5 am - and it's a race to get tickets. Teri and Ian get theirs first and are out of there at 7:50 am. Everyone else gets the 9 am flight - which means that Teri and Ian have an hour headway on everyone else. Once again, Flo and Drew are hanging out together, and the puppy love symptoms are on. Watch out for fleas!

Once at the towers, teams have to get a tourist to take a picture of them in front of the tower, then go to a camera developer at the Ampang Sopping Park - a mile away - to get the film developed. Meanwhile, everyone else thinks that they are not anywhere near them - and they are right - sort of. John Vito and Jill get their pics done first, and they get directions. The models/Flo/Zach and the brothers are all behind them.

But Teri and Ian are having problems - they can't find anyone who knows where the Park is. Teri and Ian get to the Am Pang Park - but it's the train station, not the shopping center. The ticking that you are hearing is either the seconds of Teri and Ian's lead evaporating, or the gnashing in Ian's teeth as he looks like his head is going to explode - you decide. They do regroup and find the Fotomat first - gee, you think Kodak paid enough for these ads?

Next up - the Singapore National Orchid Garden and find Margaret Thatcher. The catch? Margaret Thatcher is actually the name of an orchid, which the teams have to figure out. Teri and Ian need to figure out how to get a good taxi driver, as the delay takes off even more time from their lead. John Vito and Jill are the first group in the second pack, followed by Flo/Zach, the models, and the brothers.

John Vito and Jill are amused by the fact that Teri and Ian are in first, but they catch them at the station., Flo is pissed that Teri and Ian out maneuvered them for the airplane tickets - and Ian is pissed that all of the teams caught up with them. It's a 5 team race as everyone gets to the train. More Flo and Drew mushy mush on the train ride, as they all play Gin, which is pretty much what Zach wants to down a lot of right now, as he once again is isolated by Flo.

The teams need to find a place to stay. Zach wants to stay at the YMCA, while Flo wants to stay at somewhere better. The models and Flo/Zach decide to split the rooms and the money, and Flo is happy again. Zach may be staying by himself in the room. John Vito and Jill decide to save their money and stay in an el Cheapo hotel.

Next morning, they all get to the orchid garden nice and early. Flo/Zach get there first - and they find a detour:

Dry - Take a car and drive to an apartment to find Richard Peng - A famous star who lives in a street in a city where all of the streets are the named the same.

Wet - Go to the Singapore Zoo and find Mermaids - Manatees, that is.

Teri and Ian and the models decide to go to the zoo, Everyone else decides to get lost. John Vito and jill are actually smart enough to get directions, but they get the wrong directions from the tourists - who send them in the wrong direction. They double back while the Brothers and Flo/Zach get there first.

Meanwhile, the models and Teri and Ian get to the zoo. Derek/Drew and Teri/Ian get to their skivvies and play with the manatee, while the brothers and flo/zach find the TV star - back to downtown Singapore they go - and they have to go to the Fountain of Wealth.

The models get through the manatees first, along with Teri and Ian.

Zach wouldn't trade the map with Ken and Gerard and Flo and Zach are once again sniping.. The brothers promise that they aren't going to lose them. and they get into an argument - again - while they are driving. But the sniping is doing much better than John Vito and Jill, who finally find the TV host, but need someone to get lost.

Ken meanwhile, is trying to be fair, but Gerard wants Ken to lose him. Ken is being nice, for now...John Vito and Jill know exactly where the Fountain is - and that's on step better than both Teri and Ian and the models - but the models figure it out and get there first.

There is no roadblock - the top of Mount Faber is the next Pit Stop - and there is no free lap this time. The brothers and Flo/Zach get there next - Zach takes the lead and the brothers are right behind them. Not behind them are Teri and Ian - but they do find a native who will get them there. They get to the Fountain next - and John Vito and Jill are in deep trouble.

John Vito gets the clue but by the time they get the clue, the Models come in first place. They get to win the same 7 night cruise that John Vito and Jill won the last lap. Ken and Gerard get there in second, and Flo and Zach are in third.

John Vito and Jill get a taxi to take them to the mountain, but it's not quick enough as Teri and Ian come in fourth place. The middle-aged couple survive for yet another mission.

John Vito and Jill don't - the rotten directions from the tourists cost them as they come in last and are eliminated. The couple find out the had way about the biggest drawback of not being in an alliance - there's no other team to tell you that you're going the wrong way.

EPISODE 10
We are down to our final four - and each of them have their own questions. Can the models over come their own stupidity - especially since they are no longer allied with Ken and Gerard? Can Ken and Gerard overcome their streak of bad luck in terms of transportation and short cuts? Can Flo and Zach overcome their own internal squabbling and get their focus back on the race? Can Teri and Ian overcome the fact that they are the oldest and slowest group left with savvy and determination? Can John Vito and Jill...no they can't, because they didn't last week and are out this week.

We start out this episode where we ended the last one - in Singapore. Derek and Drew, the first one out of the gate, are told to fly to Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam, The flags will be yellow only, because the nationalist flags are yellow and red. The models - and everyone else - have to go to Bac Ho in Rex Square to find the man where everyone else knows as Ho Chi Minh.

Ken and Gerard leave second - but they are smart enough in advance to order a cab. But that cab has been found first by the models, who unsuccessfully try to steal it. The models scamper away with Ken and Gerard coming towards it. Unbeknownst to the models, Ken and Gerard ordered a second cab - and that one is taken by Teri and Ian, who are the last team to leave - 30 minutes after the models do.

Ken and Gerard get to the airport - and they get a flight to Kuala Lumpur at 11:08 pm. They are the only ones, as the rest of the teams get to the airport after the last plane left. Flo and Zach get tickets for themselves and the twins, and Teri and Ian realize that although the Models have broken the alliance with Ken/Gerard, they have a new one with Flo/Zach.

The brothers got to a flight to Ho Chi Minh city - but the quick lead that they took didn't amount to anything - they get stuck on the same flight as all of the the teams. Everyone's on even ground going into Ho Chi Minh City.

On the plane, Teri and Ian are sleeping, Flo is flirting with the models and Zach wants to be left alone. Zach and Flo split up on which line to take to get through customs, and that squabbling leaves them in last. Flo bitches some more. 'There's no reason to be in the back right now'. Zach probably wants to leave Flo in customs.

Ho Chi Minh City looks very familiar to Ian - he was there during the Viet Nam war. He's not too happy about being there - but he knows how to get around. The models get to the clue first, and they have to go to the floating market at Tai Pei. Ken and Gerard cruise into first, while the models and Teri and Ian are jockeying for second. Flo and Zach are in last, and Flo si still whining to Zach on why Zach didn't cut the line. Zach says he won't do it and if she doesn't like it, they can quit the race.

The non-whining teams get to the marketplace, and they have hit a detour:

Easy Buy - Go into the floating market and buy a water cocunut

Hard Sell - Go into the market and sell $2.50 worth of fruit. The catch? Each piece of fruit is worth 6 cents.

No, Zach, you are not allowed to sell Flo.

Ken and Gerard decide to look for the water coconut. Teri and Ian and the models join them. Here comes the rain - which will make life miserable for everyone since all of the merchants have covered their wares with blankets, making it virtually impossible to see who is selling what.

Teri/Ian and the models pass Ken/Gerard - and they all think that Ken/Gerard got their clue - which they didn't. The brothers quit and go for the Hard Sell - and they run into the still whiny Flo and Zach. Flo and Zach join the brother into selling the stuff on land.

Teri and Ian find a water coconut hanging on a pole - and they find the route marker first. The models are right behind them. The brothers finally sell enough - 40,000 worth - and they get out of there. Flo and Zach are going to join them - but they have only sold 39,500 worth., Oops. Back they go into the marketplace, and Flo is whining some more and Zach wants to throw her into the river.

Fortunately for them, the other teams are having their problems. Ken and Gerard are stuck in traffic right after they leave to go to the next place, and the models overshoot it entirely. The next place, you ask? Go back to Ho Chi Minh city and find the route marker at the edge of the Saigon river.

Teri and Ian have no problem doing that first, and they encounter a Roadblock. One oerson has to ride a cyclo-bike (which is a bicycle-like carriage/rikshaw thingie) through an obstacle course, then over a ferry, to an endpoint. Then the team has to go to the Cafe Thu Thiem, which is the Pit Stop for the last leg of the race. The last team there does not advance to the final episode.

Teri and Ian have no problems and get to the ferry. All of the other teams have their own messes to deal with. The models, now with no alliance to back them up, are hopelessly lost - and there is no alliance to help them. Also lost is Ken and Gerard, who finally get to the Saigon River - but can't find the clue. Finding it before them are Zach and the whiny Flo - and they are now in second. The whining from Flo has now changed from 'we're going to be out, we should quit' to 'Zach, please don't kill me.'

The 2 little lost teams, ironically, are the now ex-alliance mates of the original AMA - the models and Ken/Gerard. Remember all the way back a few episodes where the models had a conversation with Flo? Let me fill you in on it if you forgot:

Flo: I don't like - I dont like to be so nasty
Derek: You're very good at it...it's your nature to be nasty.
Flo That's not true
Derek: You're the dirtiest player left in the game...We can't trust any of you four, but we can trust Ken and Gerard

The models tell Ken and Gerard that the flag is not that way, and Ken and Gerard quickly run the other way - to find Flo and Zach on the ferry. For whatever reason, Flo tells the brothers where the clue is. The models find the brothers, who tell the models that they haven't seen Flo and Zach at all and are still looking for the location of the clue.

We all know that the models, with no teams to guide them, are clueless. So it should surprise no one that as the next ferry leaves, the models pull the dumb-ass move of the episode and hop on it - without their cyclo bike. That gives Ken and Gerard the time that they need to get to the clue and to start on their cyclo-path.

Teri and Ian get to the Pit Stop first, and like the teams before them, they have also won a 7 night cruise vacation to Europe. Flo and Zach come in second, as Flo is happy - until she realizes that 1. They are not last, 2. The models, who she thought were in first, aren't - Teri and Ian are, and 3. Flo gave Ken and Gerard the info that they needed to beat the models. A smiling Zach says 'This is gonna get ugly' while a very unhappy Flo watches as the twins come to see Phil, who says that they haven't completed the Pit Stop, so they can't check in. Flo directs them to where the cycles are, but it's too late, as the models get to the ferry which will take them back to the clue, they run into Ken and Gerard coming off of the ferry - with the cyclo-bikes.

The rest is a fait accompli, as Ken and Gerard do wind up in third, and the models get knocked out because they were betrayed by the team that ironically was the ones that they could trust, and even more ironically, the models stayed in the game to this point thanks to the person that was called earlier by her suitor, 'the dirtiest player left in the game'. Flo, albeit inadvertently, helped the models - to the exit.

And just to prove how air-headed these guys are, we are left with a parting quote that's almost a Yogi Berraism. 'To be fourth, among the top three teams that are left, that's a very proud accomplishment.' Dude, you came in last - that's why you're in fourth.

As they fade out, we see the other three teams talking about how they will win the race. All of those teams - including the Models, have won those silly vacations to take after the race - and Ken and Gerard just need to make sure that they don't take the same boat with the models, or else the cruise may be a one way trip.

EPISODE 11
So it all boils down to this 2 hour season finale - Teri/Ian, who are trying to be the oldest group to win the race, Flo/Zach, who are trying to be the first couple to win the race, and Ken/Gerard, who are trying to be the first brothers to win the race. It doesn't really matter about the leads, because we all know that they will be equalized at one point or another. This lap is described as ;jockeying for position', which means nothing really exciting will be going on for the first 90 minutes of the episode.

But we start with Teri and Ian in the first position. They have to go to the Imperial Palace in central Vietnam - Hue, to be exact. The old farts, I mean experienced travelling husband and wife team get to the train station - and find that the station doesn't open for another hour.

Flo and Zach are next - and Flo, the fragile one, looks much more serene - like Zach slipped 800 mickeys into her before starting. First words from Flo? 'My body is crying for food and sleep...I wish we had gotten eliminated...this is misery.' I really hope Flo doesn't win.

Ken and Gerard are third - and they are stuck on the ferry. Meanwhile, Flo and Zach get to the station, where Ian tells them that it's a 24 hour ride. 'Maybe we'll get first class tickets' says Zach, who gets a giggle in response from Ian. This starts the deconstruction of Flo.

Flo decides she does not want to go on the train, 'If they walk away now, it's certainly good for us.' grins Ian, 'I am going to have a breakdown o the train - do you want to watch that happen?' says Flo. I would like to see that. Flo and Zach decide to move to a different terminal - right when the ticket booth opens.

Ken and Gerard meet Teri and Ian - and the booth just opens. The teams that are there get first class sleeper tickets. Zach, who spent the time calming Flo, loses the sleeper tickets thanks to Flo. He does get first class sitting tickets, which makes Flo sort of happy.

'I feel horrible...horrible....I feel like I've been hit by a truck' whines Flo, who Im sure that Zach hopes that she gets hit by one. Angst aside, they do finally make it to Vietnam, and in a sign of almost resignation, Flo and Zach slow down and take their time to the car - but they are the first ones out. The brothers are second, followed by Teri and Ian.

The brothers get to the palace first. Flo ad Zach get there second - and Flo, continuing the role of Diva, wants to throw up. Teri and Ian are following everyone. The palace is 100 acres - so it takes a long time to find the Pavilion. The brothers get there first - and they have to find a route marker by a bridge in the town of Nam O Da Nang.

Teri and Ian get there first, followed by Zach and Flo, who finds something that makes her sicker than travelling - Ian. 'He makes me so mad that I want to kick his behind.' They both get taxis right outside the Pavillion, but they are still trailing Ken and Gerard, who get to the bridge first and find a Detour -

Basket boats - take the boat to the island and figure out to get there.

Basket Bikes - Take a bike filled with baskets and take a mile trek to the island.

Ken and Gerard take the bikes and they are struggling. Not as much as Teri, who can't get the bike out and gets laughed at by the local kids. Teri, under her breath, calls Teri a shmuck. The other four teams bribe the kids to help their bikes. Ken's pedal breaks and Teri and Ian catch up with the brothers.

Zach gets to the island first - yes Zach, while Flo is sitting in her floating boat, spinning around and now telling Zach that she gives up and wants to quit. Zach, who has to peddle back to help Flo, probably would take the $500,000 rebate if he could just drown Flo in the water.

The brothers get to the island first, and they have to find the Boat 'Quay' in Hoi An. Right behind them is Ian. Teri is walking here bike with the help of some natives. Flo is now paddling - the wrong way. She goes back where they've started, and for all intents and purposes, their involvement in the contest part of the race is over. Zach is trying to convince Flo to at least try the bikes as Flo storms off.

They would have gotten there before Teri and Ian - Teri walks the bike all the way over. Flo and Zach now get to the bikes - and now Flo doesn't want to ride it - she'll push it instead. 'There's not a chance in Hell that I can ride it' moans Flo, then curses out Teri and Ian as they pass Flo. Flo is still whining at the start of the basket bikes. Zach gets mega-points for Sainthood. 'Do you want me to get hurt?' complains Flo. To be honest, Zach wants you to be maimed to he can get another partner.

Flo is done - 'I want out....OUT! I want to go home.' The deconstruction of Flo is pretty much complete. The least Flo could have done was to give up her space to the models, who as dumb as they were, at least tried and would have competed their hearts out. Hell, all the teams have - this is the first time a team drops out of the amazing Race - and the biggest idiotic move since Joe and Cortland dropped out - while they were in first place - in the first episodes of the ill-fated Lost show. But they don't quit and back to the boats go Flo and Zach - and they get help from the natives to get across.

Teri and Ian drive past Ken and Gerard - and they get a bigger lead when their driver gets a flat. It was very quick for them to fix, but they are now in solid second. In what feels like length of the second Lord of the Rings movie, Flo and Zach finally get over using the boats - and for a reward, we get to hear more bitching from Flo. 'I feel like a dead rat.' Zach only can hope...

But in first is Ian and Teri - and they get a road block - one of them has to use the fishing net to catch a clue. Ian does it and Teri and Ian have to go to the pit Stop - China Beach. Teri and Ian get out while Ken and Gerard get there - and while they are there, Flo and Zach finally get a taxi and are on their way to

'During the 30 days, I have realized that I yell too much, but Teri is a strong woman - she can take it.' The softening of Ian is part of the change in the couple - but he still yells at her not to out run him when they get to China Beach. They come in first, and their reward is a 7 day cruise to Alaska. Lots of cruises to take after this.

Flo and Zach get to the marina - much later than Ken and Gerard (as seen by the lovely sunset in the distance). Before they get there, Ken and Gerard come in second, and Flo finally gets mellower - unfortunately for them, it's nightfall when they get there - and they need one big-ass equalizer to get back into it.

Of course there will be one - but right now, it's Teri and Ian's to lose if there isn't one - and everyone's to win if they do. Will Ken and Gerard escape transportation problems and will Flo get a dosage of sanity? Or will the places they finished in now be the same way after the last leg?

****************************

Teri and Ian leave at 5:35 am to go to the temple of Huong Min - and they have to go to Honolulu, Hawaii and get a blessing from the great Kahuna. The teams have to get tickets first in the city of Dinang, before getting on a 17 hour train ride.

The brothers are right behind them, and Ian verbally harasses the woman at the counter. The brothers try to help out, but they piss off Ian and they have a verbal spat before Teri and cooler heads prevail - they all get tickets and they are all their way, which leaves Ken shaking his head. 'We have an alliance with Teri and Ian? how did that happen?'

Flo and Zach leave at 8:02 am. 'We did not go around the damn world to quit' says a visibly annoyed Zach. They get to the travel agency - only to see Ian and Kens name on economy class - and they are shut out. That spells game, set and match for Flo and Zach if Flo keeps whining - Zach does get the tickets, and they will try to switch them when they get there.

All of the teams meet on the 17 hour train ride - so once again the equalizer is in effect - but not for Flo and Zach 'We have a pair of useless business class tickets'.

Zach, not giving up, tries to use a strangers cell phone to try to change the tickets. They were able to swap tickets and get another flight, which is earlier. 'How does no one know about this flight? asks Flo. That should send off warning bells right there - but if Zach was right, then Flo should be giving Zach half of her money. Zach does meet the travel person at the lobby, and the tickets are exchanged. 'At this point I think we're destined to win' says Flo. Whine whine whine whine, and now she's happy? 'All of a sudden, we're the luckiest team in Vietnam.'

Ken and Gerard are getting suspicious about Flo and Zach's tickets, and they check with the travel people and get the same flight that Flo and Zach got - unbeknownst to Flo and Zach - and unbeknownst to Teri and Ian, who realize that there were earlier tickets too late. They don't make the 6:40 am flight, and they are now in the game, set and match position.

But here comes the rain again, falling on my head like a tragedy - for the other 2 teams, who see their flight delayed for 90 minutes. They get in at 7:55 am, while Teri and Ian get there at 8:10 - they then have to go to the Great Kahuna - but that doesn't open until 10am - more than enough time for all of the teams to get there at the same time.

Flo and Zach get there first - and now Flo is giggling. And now Teri and Ian are sniping - but they all get there at the same time and they all share the Kahuna's blessing. Now they have to go to Kauai and go into a little jungle maze to get the next clue. No problems at the ticket counter this time, as all of the teams get the same plane flight and get to the cars to drive to the jungle at the same time.

Ken and Gerard get there first - followed by Flo and Zach. Teri and Ian go the wrong way - and the police officers stop them and send them the other way. Oops. The brothers hit the detour first -

Quick Drop - take a 160 feet to the falls below

Slow Walk - Walk down, which will take much longer.

The brothers take the drop. Flo doesn't want to, but she immediately goes. 'Fine, fine, we'll take the quick drop.' The brothers find the clue, which takes them to their final city. The final destination? Seattle, Washington - and the first place they have to go when there is Kerry Park. Flo and Zach get there second. Ian is terrified of heights - but they do it and they are well on their way to the airport.

The brothers and Flo/Zach get there within minutes of each other - they get their tickets - and then call to get the quickest flights. Ken and Gerard get an 857 flight booked - same time as Ken and Gerard. The teams hope that they can leave Teri and Ian behind and make it a 2 team race.

That doesn't happen - as they also get the exact same flight. 'You really think we'd let you get away without saying good-bye?' asks Ian. The other 2 teams wish that he did - but 20 minutes later, it's down to three teams in a race around Washington.

The brothers are first, followed by Flo/Zach and Teri/Ian. Ken and Gerard go past the red light - and get stuck in the slow lane. Flo and Zach get to the clue first - and they have to go to the International Fountain by foot. Flo and Zach know exactly where it is - its by the Space Needle - but Ken and Gerard get there first - and its another foot race - this time to Lincoln Park. Flo and Zach get there last - and here comes the whiny Flo out again to yell at Zach. 'Stop giving me the wrong directions if you're not sure.'

Its now a race to see who can get the first taxi. All three get it at close to the same time - and the first team to get there is....Flo and Zach - and they find the final Road Block. The person has to spin a totem pole and recall the animals in the order that they met them during the race. Zach gets to the totem pole first - and Ian joins them.

Ken and Gerard don't wind up joining them - the slow lane, and the slower taxi driver does them in, as it has done in every single episode. The difference is that this time around, they do not have enough time to catch up.

Ian and Zach are now working the totem poles. Zach finishes it first - and it takes Ian a few minutes more to finish his, as Teri watches, realizing that she should have done this Road Block.

Teri and Ian leave right when Ken and Gerard get there - and they use Ken and Gerard's taxi to get to the park. The brothers get it down quickly too - but too much ground to cover and it's now a 2 team race.

Flo finally apologizes to Zach 'I'm sorry for being a pain in the ass.' and she gives Zach a hug. All three teams, each in their own taxi, are congratulating each other. But the first taxi to get there is....

Tense, Isn't it?

Flo and Zach. Flo still thinks that Ken and Gerard beat them - but they come in first. Teri and Ian come around ten minutes away from them, and they finish in second. Ken and Gerard's transportation problems do them in - again - and they come in third. Final words from the winners? Zach - 'I really think that if bad things happen, if we stay positive, that good things would happen.' 'The first thing would have been romance. The second thing would be this amazing friendship.' says Flo.

No romance - but a million dollars. Zach should get $999,999.50 of it and Flo should get 50 cents. But, thanks to Zach, they become the first co-ed couple to win the Amazing Race. Everyone celebrates Flo and Zach's victory, and the screen fades to black.

This was the best of the three so far - likeable characters and a great race. Fortunately, CBS gave this show a renewal - now lets see if they are smart enough to give the show it's own niche to grow in. Thanks for reading the recaps - we'll see you back for The Amazing Race 4.
