Skill Builder:
SB #1: Had an experienced photographer visit the troop and
talk about the different kinds of cameras on the market. Ask about point and
shoot cameras, 35 mm cameras, and cameras for underwater photography. Also,
inquire about different types of lenses, like telephoto, wide angle, and zoom
lenses, that are used to create special effects. With your own or a borrowed
camera, take pictures of a favorite subject. Experiment with different lenses
and angles.
SB #2: Learn the basics of using a 35 mm camera from a
photographer that visited troop. Be sure to find out how to load and unload the
camera, when to change the shutter speed and f-stop, and how to focus.
Experiment by shooting a couple of rolls of film and recording the settings of
each picture for reference.
SB #3: There is a wide range of accessories to use with all
kinds of cameras, including tripods, lamps, and filters--had visiting
photographer show and explain these. Make a list of the ones you will need for
two of the following: close-up photography, portraits, nature shots. Next, go
to two or three stores to compare prices on all the cameras and equipment on
your list.
SB #4: Talked to a photographer about the basics of
composition, including background, distance, centering, and lighting.
Technology:
T #2: Over a period of time we took shots of a flowering
bush however the film was bad and they did not turn out so we are going to
re-do this requirement. We redid this and saw how the lighting changed due to
the time of day. We learned to rid a subject of shadows you use a flash even
outside!!!
T #6: Find out how digital cameras record and manipulate
images. Speak with one or more of the following: a photographer, a librarian,
someone at a local newspaper or advertising firm, or an employee at a large photocopy
center or photo lab. We had a sleep over and had a lady who works for a company
developing equipment for computers and technology. She showed us a digital
camara and how it works, including putting the pictures on a computer and
making changes. We had another person come to a troop meeting and demonstrate
the use of a digital camara.
Service Projects:
SP #: Create an album of troop or group events for your
council’s archives. See the link below for making a Cookie Box Scrapbook. We
are making a scrapbook of different activities our troop has done and will
present this to our council when it is finished.
Career Exploration:
CE #6: We have plans to go to the studio of a local
photographer and take "head shots" of one another.
