Conflict Resolution
Skill Builders
#1 - further discussion on this was facilitated by the following sites:
Conflict Resolution: 8 Essential Steps Conflict Resolution Info
Conflict Resolution Questionnaire Questionnaire
#2 Girls were asked to do this on their own
#3 It was amazing to see girls having difficulty talking for
3 minutes!!! But the discussion that followed was most interesting!
#4 We also related this to the activity in the Cadette
Challenge which relates to values and discussed how through time, some of our
values might change. (We encouraged girls who had not yet completed the values
section of the Cadette Challenge to complete the activity on page 57 in the
Cadette Handbook and see if that was indeed true)
#5 We watched a hockey match, a basketball game and a
women's volleyball game. We decided that sports involving physical contact
(hockey particularly) were more likely to result in foul play. Pushing and
shoving were the most common types of unfairness exhibited.
Technology
#3 - We watched an episode of Home Improvement and an
episode of Family Ties and discussed how these portrayals relate to real life
conflicts. We then came up with our own "realistic" endings to the
storylines. We felt that it was hard to express "real life" in a half
our program.
Service Projects
#1 - The girls will plan and conduct a mock trial, the issues of which to be
decided on Jan. 22
Career Exploration
#3 Because of the recent international conflict with Iraq, we explored the role
of the United Nations in this conflict. We found the following sites useful:
