Subject: [AGS] American Girl Themed Day Camp Agenda

We had 106 girls in attendance for day camp.

First of all we moved our location to a small town near a working canal town (Grand Rapids, Ohio).  We provided bus service from a local church (20 minute trip).  During the middle of camp we took a hike to town, took the mill tour and canal boat ride (took the girls back in time).  On the way back we stopped at the Old fashioned Ice Cream store ( one dip each).

We gave each unit leader the option to work on traditional GS badges and the new patriotic ones from National.  And provided Speakers and naturalists at different times during the days to take advantage of.  We also learned traditional camping skills (Fire building, canoeing, setting up tents, outdoors cooking).

Service Project: made 306 Pocket Flags to send to Service Men.  HYPERLINK http://www.PocketFlagProject.com www.PocketFlagProject.com , We also planted a prairie garden for the campgrounds.

We started and ended each day with a Flag ceremony, in which a different Patriotic song was learned or sung.

First day of camp everyone received a Sparkle Patriotic Tattoo (Oriental Trading). Have to tell a story here.  After each application I told the girls to not pick-it, scratch-it or scrub-it and it would stay till the end of camp.  One little girl got lightly whipped with the canal boat rope during turn around (setting where she had been told to move from several times).  As we waited for tears. Her shocked little face said " Is my tattoo still okay ??  LOL

Crafts:

Ordered camp shirts in white and decorated with sponged red stars and splattered blue paint.

Of course American food was also eaten during the week.  Hotdogs, hamburgers, Peanut Butter and Jelly.

This was a three day plus sleepover on last day for older girls Camp.  So believe it or not there was no time for Apple Pie LOL.
