The first-ever special category to be used. Correct answer from an unknown category doubled the pot.

Replaced Secret Category. Correct answer added $1,000 to the pot.

Both players listened to a question. The first player to buzz in answered the question first.

After hearing the question, the player who selected the box may answer or challenge the other player to answer it.

Similar to the above category, except that 3 possible answers would follow the question. If the first player gave a wrong answer, the other player answered from of the other two choices.

Question with a numerical answer was asked to both players. If the first player's numerical answer was not the exact number, the opponent guessed as to whether the correct # was higher or lower.

Similar to Family Feud's "face-off". The question would contain a list of ranked answers. If the first player's answer was not the top answer, the other player must give a higher-ranked answer.

If the player answered a 3-part question correctly, (s)he took another turn. If a player managed to completely shut out an opponent by virtue of this category, the opponent returned for the next game.

A correct answer allowed the player an opportunity to win another box by picking another category. A correct answer earned both boxes, while a wrong answer this time lost both boxes. Early on, the player would decide whether to risk the first box and try to earn another box.

Both players would be asked a question with multiple answers and would alternate giving correct answers. A player earned the box by giving the last correct answer or by having the opponent give a wrong answer.

Both players would be given a 2-part question. One player would buzz in and answer one part leaving the other part for the opponent to answer. If one player answered right and the other player answered wrong, the player with the right answer earned the box. If both players answered right or wrong, another question would be asked.

The player would answer a question from one of 2 subjects, However, the opponent selected the subject. From '85-'86, The player would answer a question from one category or 2 questions from the other category.

After hearing the question, the first player may request up to 5 clues. However, the opponent decided who answered the question.

First player to answer 3 questions correctly earned the box. At first the players took turns answering questions. Later players buzzed in to answer.

After hearing a question with multiple answers, the players took turns bidding as to how many correct answers they could come up with. If the winning bidder fulfilled his or her bid, (s)he won the box. One wrong answer gave the box to the other player.

After hearing the first question, the player may answer it or pass on it and try to answer another question
