"WELCOME TO THE FASTEST HIGH-STAKES GAME ON TELEVISION! THE ALL-NEW..." STRIKE IT RICH A Kline & Friends Production air dates: 9/15/86-9/87 host: Joe Garagiola announcer: Bob Hilton HOW TO PLAY: Each of two couples competed using their own row of seven monitors, one of which hid a "bandit" while each of the other six hid a different prize (Bob Hilton described three of these prizes during the opening). After being presented with a category and 5 possible answers, the couple decided whether to answer 1, 2, or 3 questions. If they missed a question, control of the contract passed over to the other couple. The couple who completed the contract would be given an opportunity to reveal prizes on their monitors. The # of questions answered correctly would become the maximum number of monitors the couple could play. Everytime a couple revealed a prize, they could bank those prizes or continue to reach their maximum. However, if the couple revealed the "bandit", they lost all unbanked prizes. If a couple hit the "bandit" or opted to bank their prizes, control passed over to the other couple. If a couple played their limit while avoiding the "bandit", they played another category. The first couple to clear their row and answer a Strike It Rich question correctly became the champs and played the bonus game. In the bonus game, the couple played for at least $5,000 but were given the choice to add a new car to the pot. Each mate controlled a row of monitors. For each pair of monitors, one of them hid a dollar sign while the other hid a "bandit". The couple opted to reveal either the top or bottom monitor for each pair. If the couple played for $5,000, they must reveal 5 $s without revealing 3 "bandits". If they opted to play for the cash and the car, the couple needed 6 $s without finding 2 "bandits". If the couple lost, they earned $100 for each $ they found. OTHER TIDBITS: In '69, former Major League catcher and sportscaster Joe Garagiola also hosted the Tattletales forerunner He Said She Said. In '71, he replaced Jack Kelly as the host of $ale of the Century, and replaced Garry Moore as the host of To Tell The Truth in '77. Kline & Friends founder Richard S. Kline had previously been employed by Jack Barry/Dan Enright Productions. Back to my game show joint or my homepage. |
