"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE NAME OF THE GAME IS..."
GO
A Bob Stewart/Sande Stewart Production
air dates: 10/3/83-1/20/84 on NBC daytime
host ("ready to GO"): Kevin O'Connell
announcer: Johnny Gilbert

HOW TO PLAY:
Two teams, each consisting of four contestants and a celebrity captain, competed in a game which involved players asking questions by alternating one word per player at a time. In each round, one team's celeb captain selected from one of two sets of answers for that round. The other set went to the other team. The first team attempted to establish a time for the other team to beat in answering 5 questions correctly. One teammate guessed the answers while the other four teammates conveyed the answer by formulating a question. The celeb captain and contestant #1 alternated to and fro in adding one word per player at a time to the question. One of the players ended the question by sounding a bell. If the guesser answered correctly, Kevin would say "Go" and then contestants #1 and #2 assembled the next question. If not, the celeb and contestant #1 assembled another question. After a second correct answer, contestants #2 and #3 conveyed the next question. After 3 correct answers, contestants #1 and #2 asked questions. After four correct answers, the celeb captain and contestant #1 asked questions. The clock stopped after 5 correct answers. The opposing team played with the other set of answers for that round and attempted to manage 5 correct answers in a shorter time. The team that finished their set in less time in round 1 scored 250 points. The winners of round 2 scored 500 points. Round 3 was played for 750 points, while round 4, if required would be played for 1,250 points. The first team to score 1,500+ points advanced to the bonus round. The non-celebs on the winning team would split the amount of their score in cash. If a team won the first three rounds, they would play the bonus round twice!

In the bonus round, one non-celeb player sat in front of the other four teammates. All four players assembled the first question. The celeb added the first word, the next player added another word, and so on. After one correct answer, the celeb and two other players assembled the next question. After 2 right answers, the celeb and one contestant played the next question. After 3 right answers, the celeb would ask questions until a correct answer was given. From then on, after each correct answer, one player would return and help formulate questions until all four players played after 6 correct answers. Each correct answer within a 60-second time limit awarded $200, unless seven questions were answered correctly, in which case the team would win $10,000! If the team won the first three rounds in the front game, the team would play the bonus game twice for up to $20,000!

At first, teams stayed on the show until losing one game or winning five. Later, two teams competed for an entire week.

OTHER TIDBITS:
Co-exec producer Sande Stewart is co-exec Bob's son.

The show's format had been previously used in 1977 for one of Bob Stewart's many unsold pilots, Get Rich Quick, as well as for the bonus round on Chain Reaction.

Today, Kevin O'Connell is a weatherman, as he was before his
Go schtick.
