The TOWER Page:
I am building a tower up from an old one I got off a CB buddy.
Look and learn from my mistakes! HiHi.
This is the tower lying in my back yard. Not painted yet.
13.5 Metres long with a 6 metres shaft at the top
that will be able to rotate. Hopefully.....

This is how I joined the two. I used clamps so I can take it off anytime.
Like MacGuyver, I use what I have got.
It took 3 bags of cement and more than 1 cubic metre of sand and stone.
I've got it all in there, except the guy I wacked. HiHi

I had to align the piping to get smooth rotation of the shaft.
TIP: Use a car jack to adjust welded iron without having to cut it loose!
Then weld a piece in to keep the guide in position.
I used square tubing to guide the shaft lower down. Much easier than trying to make a bush fit in there.
Keeps the shaft from moving sideways too much.
Then came the big day. Getting this "baby" veritical.

Getting her up with the help of 4 other people was no joke but also not such a quest as I first thought it to be. The dish you see in the second last photo is 3 metres in diameter. The last photo shows the view from the top of the tower. I stay on the edge of town next to a farm.
The guys in the middle photo is the raising party. Me at the back with the goggles then Johan ZS6JWS, Mils ZS6MJK and the two guys in front is Harry ZR6FWH and Gideon ZR6MON. If it weren't for these guys I would still be looking at the horisontal tower in my back yard.
All in all my tower cost me R1000-00 excluding the boerewors and Beer we had to selebrate afterwards. Not bad considering it would have cost me R15 000-00 to have had it put up professionally. I would say.... a good sound investment and just the way I like it..... cheap.
That's the lot. Hope you enjoyed this page.
