| 2/1/06 The Rams entered the quarterfinal match at West Greene as the most likely non setion winner to adnvance to the semifinals but came us short at 37-26. A see-saw battle was broken open by West Greene with 19 straight points after the Rams led 22-18. The heart of the West Greene linuep saw them win 4 matches in a row including 2 falls to go up 37-22 with one match left. Winning for Highlands were Scott Panchik(dec), Cody Bertolino(md), Nathan Tomporoski(pin), Justin Nobilese(ff), Eddie Petrosky(dec) and Josh Costanzo(md). 1/30/06 The first ever home playoff match never materialized today, because Beth-Center called the WPIAL and forfieted. Apparently they were down to four healthy wrestlers, and felt it was best to forfiet. West Greene beat Mars so the Rams head to the Waynesburg area and the near two hour drive to take on the Pioneers on Wednseday at 7:00. The winner advances to the semifinals at North Allegheny on Friday at 6:00 to face most likely the #2 team in the state, Mount Pleasant for the right to qualify for the WPIAL finals and the state playoffs. The Rams finished out the regular season in 2nd place in section 1-AA and will host Beth Center on Monday, July 30th for the opening round. 1/13/06 Highlands continued to be road warriors with their 5th consecutive away match at Penn Hills. Starting at 160, Highlands jumped out to a 28-0 lead thanks to pins from Nick Glesk (160), Scott Panchik (171), Nathan Tomporoski (215) and Aaron Boyko (275) and a major decision by Cody Bertolino (189). After a tech fall for Penn Hills at 103, Highlands ran the table the rest of the way. Matt Sokolwski (112), Lance Flowers (119), Ryan Clark (130), Eddie Petrosky (135) and George Stettmier (145) pinned while Jestin Nobilese (125, dec) and Jordan Toth (140, maj dec) won. With Josh Costanzo out of the lineup, Phil Scalise bumped up to 152 and provided the most exciting match of the night. Phil fell behind by a big deficit early to battle back to an 8-8 tie after 2. Phil just wore out his opponent and secured a pin midway through the third to seal the 71-5 final score. The Rams return home to hos Valley on 1/18/06 in a section 1-AA match that came down to the final match last year. 1/11/06 The Rams were on the road at Summit Academy in Herman tonight and came home a 63-6 winner. Earning pins for Highlands were Eddie Petrosky (130), Ryan Clark (135), Phil Scalise (145), Nick Glesk (160), Scott Panchik (171), Nathan Tomporoski (215) and Aaron Boyko (275). Other winners were Mike Henderson (103), Matt Sokolowski (112), Lance Flowers (119), Justin Nobilese (125) Jordan Toth (140) Fort Cherry Duals - Highlands headed to McDonald, PA and the Fort Cherry Duals January 6th and 7th, and came home with the the second place trophy for the second time this year . It was a 12 team tourney with three pools. Highlands won their pool, then split with the winners of the other two pools. After beating Chartiers Houston (AA) and Thomas Jefferson (AAA) Friday night, the Rams beat Peters Township (AAA) Saturday morning to finsih Pool B with a 3-0 record. Highlands then spilt the finals, losing 42-20 to eventual winner Hempfield (AAA), then dominating host Fort Cherry (AA) 52-14. BOXSCORE |
