Mascara. Virtual Reality do real.

 

O participante veste uma mascara que tem acoplados uma camera de video e um monitor.

A camera fica pendurada nas costas do participante , apontada pra o chao, e transmite as imagens que vai capturando para um monitor colocado em frente aos olhos.

Como a mascara veda qualquer contato visual direto com o exterior, a imagem do monitor se torna o unico parametro visual de direcao e espaco.

Apos o primeiro minuto, em geral, as pessoas perdem o senso de que estao vendo a imagem do que esta as suas costas, e ficam perplexas diante da diferenca da experiencia material e da visual (esbarram em moveis, batem nas paredes etc).

Algumas pessoas desenvolvem estrategias de re-orientacao espacial. Algumas andam de costas, outras agacham-se para mudar a perspectiva. Uma dupla dividiu as tarefas:uma pessoa controlava a camera a outra andava com a mascara.

O aspecto externo tambem e forte. Uma especie de coreografia de astronautas. O corpo se move subtraido da consciencia dos outros e reinventa sua postura social.

A mask-experience

 

 

Basic description : The public is invited at be participant using the mask. This is a black fabric that have inside, attached at back of the viewer, a video camera pointed to floor. The images that this camera is capturing goes to a little monitor that stay in front of the eyes of thus are participating. The purpose is walking, feeling this space with this "back eyes".

 

Participation : Caipora is a medium to personal experiences of the senses. How deepest this can be relates directly with the grade of self-abandonment of the participant.

 

There aren't a right way of uses the mask, and the creations of each one that uses it is incorporated. Some interesting examples are the strategy of walking back, "subverting the subversion"; or the utilization for a double, where one is directing the eye of another.

 

Neither the artist or the experiment wish express something, but open the possibility of discoveries.

 

Historical background : Caipora have a strong heritage with some of the first artists at uses participation as central subject, as Lygia Pape, Lygia Clark and Helio Oiticica. The biggest difference is the valorization of the mental decoding of the senses, instead of the direct appeal to then.

 

Real Virtual Reality : The immersion space presented is an experience of to see as new what is already knew. The another and there are confounded with I and here.
