~* BABES IN TOYLAND DISCOGRAPHY *~
ALBUMS:
| Spanking Machine Label : Twintone Released: 04/16/1990 Spanking Machine sounds like the blueprint for the music Love would make during Hole's first incarnation -- all jagged guitars, venomous spat-out vocals, pounding drums, and pit-of-the-stomach rage. But there's no arguing that Babes in Toyland got this sound on plastic first, and this writer would contend that Spanking Machine is a more compelling and emotionally powerful work than anything Hole has ever released. | House/Arriba Label: Sub-Pop Records, 7inch Released: 1990 |
To Mother Label: Twintone Released: 06/14/1991 An EP follow-up that's strong but not life-changing. (All Music Guide)
The Peel Session Label: Dutch East, Strange Fruit Released: 1992 EP recorded Live at John Peel Studios.
Fontanelle Label: Warner Brothers Released: 08/11/1992 Babes in Toyland's most focused and powerful statement, Fontanelle was vaguely associated with grunge upon its release, and tossed in with the Pacific Northwest-centered riot grrrl movement after the fact. In truth, it lies somewhere in between, its raw punkish fury and metallic grind making it the spiritual kin of L7. Fontanelle isn't necessarily explicitly feminist. Fontanelle is a frighteningly primal record, one whose sheer ferocity Babes in Toyland never quite captured this convincingly anywhere else. (All Music Guide)
Painkillers Label: Reprise Records Released: June 1993
Nemesisters Label: Warner Brothers/Reprise Records Released: 05/09/1995 Nemesisters is one of those albums that reveals a group's ability to have a different sound and still rock.
