Bansko

Bansko is an historic medieval town, and its historical buildings and feel sit strangely well with the rapidly developing apartment blocks with their western comfort and facilities. Bulgarian law forbids the development of property outside towns, so the surrounding mountainous scenery on all sides is unspoilt and likely to remain so.

Bansko is not just a pretty town but is now of course famous for its great skiing. The Pirin mountains are regularly compared with the French Alps due to their similarity. Due to the alpine character, skiing conditions here are excellent .

Ski Facilities

The ski facilities at Bansko are also excellent. Bansko has recently seen a lot of investment to ensure that everything is top quality and this investment continues.New ski lifts incorporating the latest technnology have already been installed and the amount of ski runs are being expanded constantly. Snow making facilities have been much improved to incorporate 80% of the runs and skiing can now last into early May - a 5 month season! The ski hire facilities have all the latest equipment and have been expanded in anticipation of the growth in numbers, unlike many resorts that can barely handle the demand! The eating, drinking and and entertainment are all that you would expect from a ski-resort.

The ski runs: Bansko has 14 pistes with total length of 65 kilometers with new safety marks that respond to all of the European standards, , The resort has pistes for beginners- 35%, for intermediate- 40%, for advanced 25%.There is a monitor in the start lift station with live weather / wind broadcast from the different pistes. There is a ski-kindergarten for kids from 4 to 7 years old with new drags and ski-run.

Standard and more dangerous off piste skiing is available and helicopters can be hired to access this. An instructor can be hired for para-planing.

Snowboarding There are two routes, with different difficulty of the jumps and the parapets and total length 600 meters. The capacity is for 30- 40 people. There is1 professional jump according to the requirements of FIS, on which Big Air competitions will take place. Spine- Four smaller jumps with different forms and less difficulty. There are also eight sliding parapets with different forms and difficulty. The park is enclosed and will be sound-screened.
