2003-2004 Radiation Oncology Research at Roger Maris Cancer Center, MeritCare Health System, Fargo, ND. Goal was to determine the number and location of radioactive I125 seed implants that migrate in patients receiving permanent seed implant treatment for prostate carcinoma, comparing the free seed technique versus the vicryl stranded seed technique. This was a retrospective chart review supervised by Dr. Robert Arusell (Radiation Oncologist, RMCC, MeritCare Health System). Abstract accepted at 2004 RSNA meeting: Vicryl-Linked Radioactive Iodine-125 Seeds Reduce the Rate of Seed Embolization Compared to Loose Seeds in Prostate Brachytherapy: A Retrospective Chart Review of 336 Consecutive Cases.

2003 UND Department of Family Medicine Epidemiology Project. Goal was to analyze gynecologic surgeon�s use of evidence-based guidelines in determining hysterectomy route to improve patient outcomes. Title of Paper: Assessment of Compliance with Evidence-Based Guidelines for Selection of Hysterectomy Route: A Review of 300 Consecutive Cases at an Urban Midwestern Hospital. The Summer Internship consisted of a 3 week intense lab course and 7 weeks of research using learned techniques. Goal was to test olfactory neuroepithelial sensitivity to sex pheromones (estrogens, progesterones, prostaglandins, and bile acids) to assess reproductive control and spawning activity in male goldfish grown in estrogen rich environments. Title of Paper: Effects of Estrogenic Compounds on Olfactory Sensitivity to Sex Pheromones in Male Goldfish. With the University of Minnesota Faculty Mentor: Peter W. Sorensen, PhD. Fisheries and Wildlife Department, College of Natural Resources.
