Marie Antoinette wasn't a respected queen. Since she was from Austria, many French people hated her. They also thought that she lived a frivolous life. She was rumored to having many affairs and even a false autobiography was printed and in it contained confessions to sins, she even supposably called herself a prostitute.
She is also blamed for France's financial problems because she lived so lavishly. She had a great taste for expensive items. Her famous quote, "Let them eat cake," is said to be the peak of her lack of understanding of the economic problems in France. But because she was a woman and a foreigner, she was a easy scapegoat.

   She was a very extravagant queen who spent lots of money on clothing, accessories and superfalous items. Her dresses, as portrayed in all of her portraits are big, beautiful and expensive. And she was very self-involved; the majority of the paintings of hers are only of her and no one else.
    As the Queen grew older, she wasn't as extravagant. She proved this by wearing plainer dresses and posing in portraits with her children. But the French public could not be persauded. They wouldn't forget everything she had done in the past. A major contributor too this downfall with the Diamond Necklace Affair.
   The whole affair delt with a con artist, Jeanne de la Motte, Cardinal de Rohan and a Marie Antoinette look alike. Although the real Queen had nothing to do with it, she was still rumored to have been involved. This affair only worstened her situation.
