Imagine you are living in Africa or the Middle East in the 1920s. You are Kikuya a Turk, an Iranian Muslim, or a Jew. Choose one and write a letter to a friend on Imperialism and Nationalism. Describe your hopes for the future.

Dear friend-
I am writing you from the Middle East. I am a Jew. I have been through so many problems for the past years and all of my life. I have been persecuted, my family has been persecuted, my friends have been persecuted- all due to imperialist ideas and nationalist feelings.
I believe that us Jews are entitled to the land that is being talked about during these times. How horrible is it to not have a land to call your own? The Germans have their land, the English, the Americanswhy not us? Our case can be traced back to biblical times when we were promised the land. Now because of conflict with the Palestinans we are unable to have any land.
Of course we have a strong sense of nationalism. In order to gain what we have lost and what we are entitled to, we must have strong beliefs that this land is ours. It is understandable that the Palestians are, too, very nationalistic but over all we have proof that this land belongs to us in one of the most published and revered books.
The Palestinians are too imperialistic and are taking it to a very dangerous level. Because of this increased imperialism there has been much conflict and struggle going on for a long time.
I personally am willing to share the land with the Arabs, they do have valid points about the land. And it is horrible about what some Jews are doing to the Arabs. I mean buying land and then forcing the Arabs off of it is terrible. And the Arabs not hiring some people because they are Jewish is just as bad.
I hope that in the future that both religions and groups can finally come to a conclusion and figure this conflict out. While I do want a land to call my own and to have my children be proud of, if it means that people have to die and that there will be tension forever between these people then its not worth it. We should be able to share the land.divide it up and make an agreement of whos land is whos.
I wish that all these things come true but mostly I hope that people would finally get along and follow through with the will of god.

    Sincerely yours-
Your Jewish friend from the Middle East
